Malcolm Kelly won't run today at OU Pro Day

OU players don't transition well to the NFL in general with the two big exceptions being Adrian Peterson and Tommy Harris thus far...

Yeah I know Roy Williams went to OU but come on, look at the guy now....

I'd say Clayton is a pretty good WR. I'd take him. Hes been in Baltimore and still has had a couple of good seasons.

Actually, not running at the Combine or his pro day hurts him drastically. Possibly pushing him out of the first round.

I agree that it hurts him, I don't know about out of the first round.

I just posted yesterday wondering why he never ran at the combine, and I thought he dodged it but people said he was injured.

This just confirms that he's got a slow 40 time and knows right now he's seen as the #1 prospect at WR.

Kind of sours me on the kid, have some testicular fortitude.

It actually has nothing to do with OU players specifically. It has to do with the players themselves. Although, coaching can mold players into something that doesn't translate well, (wishbone QBs) but a talented player is a talented player. You can redefine how a player uses his talent, it just takes more time for the player to develop.

My thing is, I don't see why he's even considered a lock as a 1st round player anyway. He seemed like a early to mid 2nd rounder to me.

Going a little further back, Billy Sims wasn't too bad.

Davin Joseph seems to be doing all right int Tampa Bay when he's not injured.

And what about RW? He's not great, sure, but he was pretty good his first few years and remains a decent player (though his level of play certainly doesn't warrant his current salary).

No fortitude, for sure, but this is their livelihood...Big paycheck comes for those high 1st rounders and unless Kelly was going to outrun Cal's Jackson, can't see what he would benefit from running...Any reason given for why he didn't run?...Still can't see him falling far enough to us, but it'd be nice, non? :D

Unless he is just trying to limit his field by only running for teams by accepted invite.

Of course doing that can make your draft position slide, but if there is a specific team you want to play for (and you know they want you), it's a good way to increase the odds of sliding passed other teams.

I highly doubt it will push him out of the first round. He is the best WR in the draft by a long shot.

Agreed.

He wont fall from the #1 slot because he has no challengers.

I could see Jackson and Hardy both being taken ahead of him.

Is it better to have everyone think you're slow, or to run and get rid of any uncertainty as to how fast you are?

I cant see a more perfect fit for the Cowboys.

I hate OU Sooners but i'll take this one on our team.

doubt it.
They both had better college production, and we know they're both extremely athletic. Can't really see anything that makes Kelly a hands down better prospect than either of them, really. Maybe teams just like slow receivers, though.

Mayock had him as his #5 WR last night on the ticker...

Yeah, it's just Mayock, but still.

Apparently he didn't interview with teams at the combine either.

Every OU fan I've talked to said he never lived up to the hype and under-achieved. I've also heard terms like "screw loose" and "not mature enough" used to describe him.

Many people know that I am a huge Oklahoma fan. I even made it to a few games last year. I have talked to literally hundreds of fans and I have not heard a single peep of what you are claiming about Reggie.

Gotta make a call and see if I can find out what happened to Reggie.

I was told that today by someone who works in the Oklahoma athletic department.

He also said that both Malcolm and Reggie have scheduled private workouts in mid April in Arizona.

So did Tedd Ginn Jr.

Im not basing this on College production.

Im basing this on whose game best translates to the pros and Kellys game is #1 imo.

That's fine. But I don't really take your opinion that his game translates best as evidence that there are no contenders to the #1 WR spot.

BigDave, is there a link of some sort? I can't find anything else reporting that Kelly didn't run. Not saying I don't believe you, but I'd like to post this elsewhere and without a link I can't.

I'm a big OU fan...I can say that Kelly and Reggie were both a little beat up at the end of the year. They may not be able to run just yet. As far as not even being there, I don't understand that, but some of these things aren't always reported accurately so I'll wait and see.

As far as projecting them goes, I see Kelly as a legit number one. If he can run a decent time, I don't see how he won't be the first receiver taken. He may even go as high as 11 or so.

Reggie is a little different. I think he's going to slide because he's a bit of a tweener in the secondary. He should be a decent role player in the NFL, but I don't see him as a star.
