Nolan was an utter embarrassment to the organization, broke team records for worst defense ever and they did not want to be in position for a repeat.

how team response thru him,.. in-house coaching adjustments.

- While i really believe the Jones handcuffed McCarthy and any suggested offense he could have added to K-Moore, i also think they are observing and having thoughts

Good points dang near forgot about Nolan. No clue who brought in Quinn. Was Quinn even considered for the HC position before MM hiring?

Payton used Alvin Kamara very well. I would love for him to come here and use Pollard the same way. But Payton may not be any different than McCarthy. If he has to keep Moore and let Moore run the offense without Intervening, he's doomed.

Some will say Payton is no better than McCarthy, because they both only won one Super Bowl with Hall of Fame QB's. But I think Payton gets more respect from Jerry. Which means more control. McCarthy is the ugly duckling due to lack of control, IMO. So bringing in Payton or giving MM more control is even steven in my book.

When the time comes I think MM will say...It's not me it's Moore. The guy you made me keep is messing things up. If it were up to me I'd be doing this and that. So I think McCarthy is just holding on to that trump card for now. He'll play it when he needs it.

Stipulation would be to keep Moore lol

Dan Quinn has a lot better chance of becoming the Cowboys next HC than Sean Payton. Payton was the assistant HC under Bill Parcells in Dallas. He already knows what it’s like to work for Jerry. He’ll want no part of the Cowboys head coaching job. Besides McCarthy is making less than half what Payton was making in New Orleans. Jerry isn’t going to pay what Sean Payton’s asking price would be even if he was open to being the HC. Better brace yourselves for Dan Quinn if it doesn’t work out for McCarthy this season.

- I'd say in year 3 Fat Mac knows what it's like to coach under Jerrah's thumb too

- Jerry is and has been relinquishing control of the Cowboys for almost a decade now. Stephen is the know-it-all problem now

- Surely you don't think a multi-billionaire who has a $250M yacht that cost millions a year to maintain/own is gonna balk at paying Payton more, much more, than McCarthy makes and than Payton made at NO. Jerry will pay. He'll die soon and he wants another trophy and will pay for it.

- You say Payton knows how Jerrah operates well certainly Quinn does too. The same thinking applies to Quinn as the point you were trying to make about Payton when he was under Parcells. Exactly the same situation.

The only thing that gets me about the Payton to Dallas as HC thingy is why did Payton sign a 5 year contract with NO right before he left.

The only thing that saves Fat Mac here is a run to the SB or damn near it.

I can't wait. It's going to be so great to replace this head coach with someone with an identical resume and the exact same level of success. It's the answer to all our problems.

I dunno. Ultimate results don't always tell the true tale.

If an obvious PI call goes the right way, and Scott Norwood can make a fairly routine kick, Payton would likely have twice the SB wins as his mentor.

I understand that the numbers between MM and Payton are similar, but I think Payton is a better overall football coach and would command more respect than MM.

I've never heard Drew Brees say that Payton has a low football IQ. That's certainly part of it for me.

I actually like Quinn but I don't think money would the issue with Payton. Payton would want full control where Quinn would be fine with Jerry doing the grocery shopping.

Dan Quinn is one of those who’s better suited as a coordinator than an HC that’s already been proven in Seattle and with the Cowboys. Sean Payton would want a lot of money and a lot more control than what Jerry would be willing to give. Jerry’s not going to pay a lot of money to an HC who isn’t being given much control. There’s coaches that would take less money than McCarthy is getting to be a bystander on the sidelines for the Cowboys. Despite numerous coaching changes and personnel moves nothing ever changes with the team because the man at the top continues pulling all the strings.

Jerry had his chance to hire Sean Payton as the Cowboys HC years ago but allowed him to get away. The only reason Sean Payton left the Cowboys was because he got offered a HC job with New Orleans. It worked out great for him because he got a lot more control in New Orleans than he would’ve ever gotten with the Cowboys under Jerry. He’s had success as an HC and he’s not going to want to come to a team where he’s not likely to have the same success. He’s well aware of what’s gone on with the Cowboys the past 27 years. He’s an old HC who stepped down because he was burned out.

Dan Quinn on the other hand was fired by the Falcons as their head coach. Other than the one Super Bowl year where his team blew the largest lead in Super Bowl history he didn’t have a lot of success as a HC. He would jump at the opportunity to coach the Cowboys and I believe that’s one of the reasons he decided to stay with the Cowboys. He knows if it doesn’t work out with McCarthy he’s likely to be the next in line for the job.

Ah, I thought Mike did. Well, still, we were lucky Quinn was available. He's made our defence night and day better. I expect that Mike is going to be heavily feeling pressure if he intends to stay beyond this season.

Eyeing Payton and getting Payton are two very different things. Jerry might be eyeing him but Payton has an agenda that doesn't include Jerry. He'll be doing some active broadcasting for the foreseeable future. I doubt Payton will look to Jerry to be his future boss if his broadcasting venture is less than successful. As far as Mike McCarthy is concerned, the upcoming season needs to prove a success if he's likely to remain the Cowboys' HC. If that doesn't materialize, look for Dan Quinn to replace him as the Cowboys' HC. In that event, don't be shocked if Kellen Moore joins MM on the unemployed list.

Well, the other thing is, Quinn was incredibly unlucky to not have joined the Mike and Sean Lombardi conversation. The catch by Edelman and that comeback was so unlucky for Quinn. I think he should be held in the same convo as a result.

Never say never -- even Jerry surprises every now and then, especially when everyone and their granny has been on KM's back lately. Maybe it somehow happens and maybe it doesn't but I think it would behoove this FO to shuffle the deck, if and when this team has a considerable swoon. That may well not be the case but that's not to say it can't happen.

As much as I like DQ as a DC, I'm meh on him as a HC, and the scenario by which he becomes exactly that in Dallas is sort of remote IMO.

Reminds me of all the talk about Jason Garrett eventually taking over for Wade Phillips. It ended up leading to an awful season in 2010. It’s never real good having a HC having to look over their shoulder. McCarthy has Sean Payton and Dan Quinn waiting in the wings to take his job if you believe what’s being reported.
