That’s true. I mean facing the hapless giants and
Dufus Eli twice a season would help pad stats. The cowboys d line did well against the saints but struggled against the colts

So any DL coach who faces elite Olines and they dont perform a couple of games should be fired for underperforming?

Beyond that, I believe most of the evidence would suggest that the defense has been improving gradually over the time Marinelli's been here and as we've added talent. There was a time when neglecting the defense in both the draft and FA actually killed us, yes. But that was a while ago now.

0-16 as a HC on a different team isn't really all that relevant to his performance with the DL, which is what this thread is about. There's very little serious doubt about Marinelli's qualifications as a DL position coach. If that's the argument you're making, you wanna check your head. He's a top DL coach.

Hi to what? Our DL overperformed for the season and in those particular 2 games our coaches were out coached. In the Rams game the issue was LVE according to video evidence of Richard yelling at him repeatedly.

It is interesting that we all of the sudden have all of this talent. They added Quinn in FA and Hill in the draft. Quinn is an unknown as to how many games he will play and Hill is just an unknown, freakish athletic talent but still an unknown NFL talent.

Don't know if Crawford will get a time out yet and while some think depth = bodies in the meeting room, I do not. It is unknown how this DL will perform this season and except for one player last season, they were barely average. This team is not loaded until they prove it.

Now, they got a banged up secondary with Lord Byron healing from hip surgery and Awuzie with a hip flexor but then that depth = bodies thing will come up again.

This defense is an unknown as a pass defense. I think they will be a good run D and that playoff game was not a true indicator. However, good pass D is the combination of pass rush and early CB coverage on the 3 WR's. One helps the other and both create very good pass D's.

It is the same every year, we either undervalue or overvalue the talent because we really don't know until it gets real. And the other unknown, and the most critical, is that depth because that is more known, we will need some strong contribution beyond the starters.

Marinelli hasn’t underperformed since he’s been here. Malik, Lawerence, Woods, Lee and LVE amongst others all played with injuries against the Rams.

This is the last year of his contract.

He'll be 70 before this season starts.

He is likely gone after 2019 regardless of what happens.
 
Any underperformace this year and they need to clean house. period. The scapegoat days should be over.
