Martellus Bennett Struggling To Pick-up Playbook..

I feel very comfortable with Curtis in the No. 2 role. He has shown nice hands, and ability to get open and some blocking strength when he's been in the game. I can't remember any negatives about his play last season, but that comes with the caveat that he wasn't on the field enough to be thoroughly evaluated.

You feel comfortable with him but he wasn't on the field enough to be thoroughly evaluated. My problem with this is I think I might kinda understand it. Curtis hasn't down a lot. Bennett hasn't done squatt.

Big snip.........
Regarding Bennett, what can the guy do...Hes 2nd/3rd in line, will probably be on the inactive list all year, and if dice fall badly, he could get cut. Especially if he is struggling to pick up the playbook...that's a shame...

Bennett will get some time this year. Hopefully Curtis can play some as I don't trust either one. But I do think one can play if Witten goes down.

Hopefully.

Can't believe this is even a topic of conversation. Talk about overreacting. Just chill out.

We've seen overreactions to Scandarik's play vs Jenkins on this board with a few already in rookie minicamp believing Jenkins was a bust & Scandarik would be the better player. But Jenkins sure looking good now.

Heard all kinds of great stuff about Amendola in rookie minicamp. But what has he done in the OTAs against the vets? Nothing so far. Yet many on this board almost guarantee him a spot on the roster.

Now we got tidbit of info that Bennett perhaps taking a little longer to learn the playbook. Wow. Surprise, surprise, surprise. How many of you remember that in the rookie minicamp there was a comment by the media that TE coach (don't remember which Garrett) was constantly in Bennett's ear. It should be obvious he's being pushed in double quick time to get up to speed maybe faster then any of the other young rookies.

Why don't we all just relax & give these young players a little time instead of kiddingly (?) calling them slow or a bust. They are rookies and there is a reason so many rookies have a difficult time in their first year but then really step it up in their 2nd year.

I don't think people are overreacting. The team got rid of Fasano supposedly because he couldn't get a mental grasp on his assignments. Now there are reports that the team drafted another idiot. I don't think anyone is overreacting, I think they are very much entitled to be disgruntled.

The team pretty much traded an idiot for an idiot and lost a 2nd rounder in the process.

This is exactly right, except for the part about drafting one idiot for another idiot. And the part about people not overreacting when they don't really know what they're talking about. Other than that, though, you nailed it.

Guys, come on, the season doesnt really start for position players for about 6 more weeks. He has that long to get to know the book and even if he doesnt with 4 hours of practice a day for 3 straight weeks, he is bound to learn it. Its June, the depth chart will move considerable by Sept 1st.

All this hype about him over Fasano...

I think his upside is well above whatever Fasano's turns out to be. Fasano is what he is; hes a good blocker, with very minumal recieving ability. He was a bad pick and this one was all on Parcells. Just because a player looks like someone from the past{Bavaro) doesnt mean he is.

Is it a shock to anyone that he's behind Witten and Curtis on the depth chart at this point?

He'll probably be behind both of them all year long.

Cracks me up how players are written off before training camp even begins.

Meeenemeeeeneee meeeep. Hold on I am projecting. Meenemeeeneee meep.

He will be on the filed approx 48% of the available snaps so his value is greater than McFaddens.

Meeneeemeeeneee meep. Projection complete.

no it is not a shock....the shock comes from the fact that with the talent we have at TE in Witten and Curtis.....why would we once again pick a TE in the 2nd round? An injury to Owens and the Cowboys are going to have to play Ravens football....which was good enough to win the SB....and in my opinion the investment in this defense should produce that kind of dominance.....but we shall see

Not yelling bust, but there have been several posts saying that getting him was a stupid move, or that he won't be good/contribute.

We said that as soon as he was drafted not because we thought he was stupid or going to be a bust.

Yes, and possibly wasted 2 second round picks...just imagine what we might have picked up for these picks. A wide receiver, a strong safety, or line depth...

Two weeks ago that was Wade told Ellis that Veterans do not need off-season reps as much as rookies. Now its Wade told Ellis his job is safe?

Ellis is not a star player. He doesn't give it his all, and he is not in it for the team. Last season he was basically protesting saying his injury isn't healing as fast, and he does not have insurance ($$$$) that if he goes and gives it his all and get injured again, he will be tossed out. Well he got insurance AND and played, hit the single season sack incentive. Good for him.

Unfortunately, he produces well, but I have a feeling if we put Spencer in there he would not miss a beat.

Sorry to hijack this thread on that damned Ellis...

I agree on Ellis. He is a negative during the off season and as a veteren leader of the team.:bang2:

Bennett played at a college that did not enhance or improve his skills, so it should be no surprise he is a project -- potential. I think everyone will be surprised with Fasano's career in Miami as he gets playing time and improves...still shocked we let him go.

Fasano was with Dallas for two full years and showing no signs of getting it. Bennett hasn't even gone to training camp yet. Yep, that is the same.

Except that Fasno had two years in the league, and still couldn't grasp the playbook. Bennett has had two months in the league, and we're throwing a fit because he hasn't been able to grasp the playbook?

Can we at least wait till training camp before we throw fits?

Jeez

Even if he doesn't grasp the playbook this year I think he is still capable of making plays in the red zone. You can split him out and tell him to get open in the end zone for a jump ball. You really could not do that with Fasano. Bennett has some athleticism that can be an asset that Fasano did not have.

If he can catch, he as an asset Fasno did not have

Sports writers are inventing stuff to write about and this board is throwing a fit about it.

I was thinking BUST because I saw Jose Lima's wife on my screen:

This is not meant as a shot at aggy, but coming out of that a&m system, with their 3 page playbook to an NFL version, must be like Bigfoot trying to read Latin for the 1st time.

I do hope he catches on. He appears to be a good athlete.
