:banghead: :banghead: this may not end well. Have to admit, Jerry's attitude about is surprising, to me at least. He normally keeps his future HOFers happy.........

I loved the non refundable CBA induction, Teams dont have to feel guilty anymore.

I’d do it for sure. But I also can acknowledge it’s very selfish and something I wouldn’t expect from a “leader” but i for sure would do it.
Ultimately, these players understand that this is their business, their jobs, and this is the way the business is done. You have "leaders" throughout the league who either have done it or are doing it. I don't hold it against them.

Like I said above I get both sides. I just feel like if he wants to be the highest paid guard he should’ve signed a 3 or 4 year deal not 7.

No matter what he does, Jerry can’t win. If he gives him a newcontract (even though he still has this year and next year to go), players will start lining up for THEIR new contract, fans will gripe, and the media will go on an epic “gullible Jerry” overreaction. If he holds his ground, Martin might dig in, the OL would suffer, fans would freak, and the media will CRITICIZE!
Again, I'd pay him and tell the other players that if they become a multiple-year All-Pro, I'll pay them too. You can draw a line, but drawing it at not paying an All-Pro is a poor choice IMO.

However, I think this is just like other deals Dallas has done. They have a timetable that they are looking at. They likely do not care if Martin is at camp or practicing until at least after our first preseason game because he's not going to play in it anyway. I could even see them waiting until closer to our second preseason game; whatever amount of time they need to get him ready to take some snaps in the third one.

We've seen this over and over again. Dallas didn't sign Lawrence to his megadeal until it had to in order to get his surgery done and have him ready for the season. It didn't sign Elliott until four days before the season opener (which may be closer to what we can expect with Martin). It waited until it had to to sign Dak to his megadeal instead of giving him an extension before his final year.

A seven-year deal is more for the team's benefit, so he was being a team player. It allows the team to spread out his bonus, creating smaller hits early in the contract.

This is one reason why Dallas had so much trouble with Dak's deal. He wanted shorter-term, which makes it harder to create smaller hits.

If he cared, he'd show up. He'll probably wait till the season starts and see how the OL does without him. If it's awful then he has leverage. If it's okay then he doesn't. Jerry didn't make anything better when he talked about him to the media though.

How is it team friendly when he wants a new deal before the contract expires? What am I missing?

Sure, I'd prefer to have Martin on the field but, quick, name the
current starting RGs of last year's SB teams.

I don't get his strategy. He signed a contract. He's listed as the 4th
highest paid RG in the NFL.
It’s been proven you don’t need the highest paid right guard or the best right guard to compete.

Good! Keep paying the price for not honoring your contract, Zack!

I'm glad Jerry is finally learning from his past overpaying mistakes. Stand firm, Jerry. You already paid Zack Martin and made him the highest paid Guard in NFL history at the time (2018). You stepped up and sacrificed to make Zack Martin happy. Now it's Zack's time to return the favor for the team if he wants to continue being a Dallas Cowboy.

This is why I am annoyed by these players crying over money.
well they are all overpaid,(the stars ) but that isnt going to change.
To look at it from martins perspective, lets say he makes 15 mil a year avg, and he hears about lamb getting 30 mil a year and others more than him.
And he has his own idea of his value to the team and these other players, so he now wants more than what he is getting, it is human nature.
I understand how he thinks he is getting the short end of the stick.

I didnt think he had the stones to sit out but he is, so more power to him, curious to see if he will fold with start of the season.
Who will cave, martin or jerry?

I think it would be stupid of martin to sit out and pile up 500k in fines and not take it into the season as well.

He’ll never pay a dime. Fines are at the teams discretion

The failure to draft a high quality lineman is coming home to roost!

Good thing we got a healthy 2nd round Blocking TE to solve all our woes .

Oh Wait!!!

So once Jerry decides to waive the no show fine it will be like Martin actually getting a raise!

More than likely his fine will be forgiven when he gets his extension.

This isn't a big deal at all.
OK let me restate.

It will be forgiven in the form of an incentive payment he is easy to receive.

Bottom line is he ultimately won't be out this fine money he is accumulating by making it back this season.

Hope that makes sense.
