Matt Hasselback vs Weeden

Hasselbeck doesn't help us beat Atlanta or NO.

Idk. I guess we'll have to disagree. But I think hasselbeck helps us win NO for sure. It was a close one, and hasselbeck has more poise, more leadership, more experience, and he can make all the throws to keep a defense honest. But we will never be able to prove it one way or another, which drives me insane

Weeden went down and tied the game with a TD with time winding down. Defense spit the bit. Talk about poise? Poise for what? Making you feel better?

I agree with this post.

Poise like stepping up in the pocket ( that was mention several times by the announcers) instead of taking a sack. Throwing the ball away instead of taking sacks. But I'm still not feeling better maybe a shot of tequila will help.

Hasselback was so impressive beating a Ryan Mallet and Brian Hoyer quarterbacked team.

Both are far superior quarterbacks to Matt Ryan and Drew Brees.

Let's be honest here. Weeden have no business being on this team. At our state we need a proven veteran back up that know his role. Not a flunky that we hope can put stuff together once he play with our weapons. That is why I wanted Vince Young , Michael Vick or Schaub. Guys who proved they can win at this level. Not a Matt Cassell or Matt Flyn who couldn't do jack but bounce around to teams every off season.

U wanted Young, Vick, or Schaub? How are these old back ups proven? Oh, by the way, Young stunk to high heaven.

Hey I was with most people during that drive starting at the 9 thinking we were screwed. That was a clutch drive capped by that throw.

DLaw and Crawford are bigger problem areas on the team then the backup QB. The middle coverage sucks; I'm sick of QBs picking on Church and the LB not named Lee. Church looks like a slug in space against talented receivers. Missed tackles, blown assignments, wrong fills and no pressure.

Patriots are going to get Edelman, Amendola and that All Pro TE into our middle coverage and all people want to talk about how they want Weeden to be better? It's uncanny.

That's because he's not very good. Welcome to backup QB in the NFL.

People aren't so much defending Weeden in these threads in the first place. They're trying to help keep things in a relevant context. They guy can't handle pressure, he doesn't look anybody off. He doesn't process reads very quickly. He checks down to receivers who don't have a high likelihood of converting. He can't get you out of 2nd and 15, for the most part. He lacks touch over the middle. He's a very limited QB.

What he can do is stand in the pocket and get the ball our accurately. So far at least, he's avoided the really stupid turnover. The reads he does make tend to be open receivers, at least. It's a fairly short list.

Which is what happens when you lose your franchise QB. You get a guy who's really limited or, if you're even unluckier, you get a guy who can't do anything at all for you.

I don't like Weeden. I didn't want him as the backup going in. So far, I've been very happy with what we've gotten relative to what I expected, but that's because my expectations were very low. I'm not about to waste time ruing that he's not Matt Hasselback, though.

This may be true but when your QB has a 108 QB rating and losing, the first thing that comes to mind is Bad Defense. Having said that, our D has really sucked.........

Oh, I agree completely. Weeden is what he is, and I don't mean to be overly harsh on him. He's a backup, and he's doing a decent job for us in that capacity. It's the rest of the team around him that's not stepped up. Particularly, as you say, the defense. I just can't get all these homers here to see it.

Lets be honest? lol No that is your opinion there is no honesty involved just a personal agenda

OK we grab a back up that was still rough and didn't do much with his time in Cleveland. If that is the case give me old vet or draft a rook that has potential...cough cough Brett Hundley.

ALL better than Weeden. VY stink? When? The only poor performance I recall from VY is when he played that one game for philly. VY was a play maker not play breaker!

Unless Hasselbeck switched to defense, he wouldn't have helped.

Hassleback or weeden ?
Of course Id rather roll with the hassle . But since he is not a cowboy, what I'd like to see is our OL play up to billing and our defense take it up a few notches maybe even create a turnover and help us steal a game or two till health returns
