Yeah, you're going to have to show proof of plenty anticipating Matt Johnson starting. The only person I can even think of is Hostile, and he also anticipated AOA starting, lol.

So Matt's supporters only saw him as a back up?

That's not how I'd characterize that Broaddus/Mickey exchange. They've had an ongoing dialogue on the topic of Matt Johnson because Broaddus has given up on him because of the injury concerns. Similar to Mickey not liking Parnell because he can't play.

As far as how far we've come on the topic of Matt Johnson, that's to be expected in the NFL where the meter is always running. It doesn't really matter if you can't play because you are unhealthy or you can't play because you're unskilled or untalented. You only get so long on a limited-space roster to deliver, or the team has to move on.

Eh, it was pretty clear to me that they agree that Matt Johnson going to get his back looked at like that was the cause of his issues was a waste of time.

I don't think we disagree on Matt Johnson, either way.

Plenty anticipated him starting - there is voluminous thread support. The real question is whether management made positional decisions based on this hope. Look at the 2012 threads, we are still in the same safety deficit we were then. Part of management's calculus and failure was based on waiting for this guy.

I'd be interested in seeing some support. My recollection was that people thought he might develop into a player for us. I don't recall much about magical starters, though. Most of that stuff came from people misrepresenting fan expectations, I think. I'd be genuinely interested in whether or not I'm misremembering that, though, if you have any links on the topic.

If the team is lead to believe his hamstring injuries aren't typical and worthy of a deeper look, there's really no point in cutting him now.

He won't be taking a roster spot. IR him right now and it's doubtful anyone would argue the team is just stashing him on the injured list simply because of his past.

I wouldn't have cared if they cut him last year. He was a small school prospect the team admitted to reaching for just a year after he was drafted. Couldn't stay healthy in year one or two, I wouldn't have blamed them at all.

I would be in favor of keeping him just to see if they could find something that would cause it. I'm sure research has been done on predictors of hamstring injuries but not sure how much there is for guys who just get them over, and over, and over again.

Bring Miles back and guinea pig him as well.

One day, Mr. Johnson, we will uncover the problem. Just you wait... for a decade...

For a minute there I thought you had written gynecologist.

I had some more but lost the page number when my computer restarted. From summer 2012. These have some, but not enough to fill a stadium. There were some more after the scintillating 2 tackle 2013 preseason game

That first link, anyway, is pretty over the top. The second was more along the lines of what I remember, with people saying he had potential to develop into a really good player.

Thanks for pulling the links. The context really does help.

Overall, I think you remember it more correctly than I did. There was a few crazy threads, but probably only 2-5 posters with outrageous expectations in a thread. Everyone else was more measured. There was one thread in summer 2012 of "Does Dallas have the best secondary on the NFL?", but no real Johnson comments. Couple of other threads talked about safeties and 1-2 posters project Johnson to start. Many others lauded his measurables, quick first step and ball hawking abilities from youtube but didnt know if it would translate to the NFL game.

There are some fantastic threads about how Jerome Henderson adds 2 wins per year, We were going 14-2 in 2012 and nostalgia from names long forgotten

It would be interesting to have some threads set aside as all-timers. The Felix Jones being chased by slow things, MSPaint, etc, or when a poster makes a proclamation.

Every player has to be able to display proof that he's able to endure the rigors of his job to win a roster spot. Matty hasn't even been able to sustain a decent amount of practice, much less everything else that goes with the job. Apparently, it won't be long before he's released and we'll all be agreeing it's a wonder he lasted as long as he did (but it just wasn't meant to be.) Yes, it's too bad.

Maybe overestimating players from small schools won't be such an established habit in the future. I'm hoping Will McClay may help curb that inclination. He's a known proponent of giving much preference to the big schools in the quest for talent. It'd help if others were to listen. Hopefully, they will now.

Maybe someone can explain something to me................ if I were a visiting fan, with the amount of chatter on here and teeth gnashing over Johnson's health, it would seem to me that this cat would be quite a player.

But Johnson isn't and likely never was. I don't get it.
