Matt Johnson News

I'd love it if we hadn't wasted 4th round pick on him and, you know, sorted of stupidly counted on him to magically start over the past 3 seasons.

There was not way to predict that he had thread for hamstrings. I don't think that shows up in a physical; although, Jerry might want to invest in some technology that could detect it.

He's only been with the Cowboys for 2 years. I don't think they counted on him starting. They drafted Wilcox the year after Johnson with a higher pick.

Mickey says "this doesn't cost the team anything", he's wrong. If you project him to be on the team, then your priority for a safety on draft days drops. After two years of nothing, being around the team in like ignoring a tumor. Players like Leary with that risk, showing they can put in time should be the exception. After last years 17/18 injuries, giving him a trot out is ******** learning, The definition of insanity is trying the same thing and expecting different results.

They drafted Wilcox the year after Johnson and used a higher pick on Wilcox than they used on Johnson. I don't think Johnson affected their priority on getting a Safety. They've never shown a super high priority at that position since they drafted Roy Williams. They might have considered draft some earlier, but they've never actually done it with or without Johnson on the team.

Maybe someone can explain something to me................ if I were a visiting fan, with the amount of chatter on here and teeth gnashing over Johnson's health, it would seem to me that this cat would be quite a player.

But Johnson isn't and likely never was. I don't get it.

He's become a (manufactured) metaphor for unfounded hope.

Whereas, in reality, he's a mid-round pick from a small school who's been trying to make the roster and contribute to the team and just can't overcome his chronic soft tissue injuries.

I thought we were talking about Oscar Goldman fixing Matt Johnson. It was only 6 mil for Steve Austin but with inflation Jerry will have to shell out some big bucks.
I just realized I switched from Johnson to Claiborne. I've got Morris on the brain.

Agreed, no way of knowing he'd be so injury prone, but the subsequent detrimental reliance based upon a hope and a prayer by the FO is what is troubling IMO.

Jerry Jones said the Cowboys did not need to draft a safety high because they view S Matt Johnson as the equivalent of a high-round pick.
Johnson was drafted in the fourth round two years ago, but has yet to play in an NFL game due to a string of injuries. The Cowboys remain high on Johnson, and he should challenge J.J. Wilcox for a starting job in camp. Still only 24, Johnson needs to stay healthy to avoid being cut. May 11 - 4:51 PM
