I would love it if they put him on IR. Heads will explode.

I would love if they put him on IR designated to return. Even more heads would explode.

Of course, if we waive him he's just going to revert to IR anyway

How long are the Cowboys on the hook for his injury?

Until he is healthy. We'd have to come to an injury settlement really and since it is becoming clear that he's just never going to be right, we are likely on the hook for the entire year

What if they keep him on the 53. That would be the maximum meltdown.

He would revert to IR, but all of the other injured guys they waived except the UDFA from Texas were given injury settlements after they reverted to IR.

Mickey says "this doesn't cost the team anything", he's wrong. If you project him to be on the team, then your priority for a safety on draft days drops. After two years of nothing, being around the team in like ignoring a tumor. Players like Leary with that risk, showing they can put in time should be the exception. After last years 17/18 injuries, giving him a trot out is ******** learning, The definition of insanity is trying the same thing and expecting different results.

Yes, but all those guys are going to continue their careers. Injury settlement allows them to be free agents. There will be no interest in Johnson so his agent is going to want him to get as much pay as possible (i.e., the entire year).

Matt Johnson's only hope may be Oscar Goldman.

I think he is dead........wait...nope. He's still kicking. So your saying there is a chance?

— Dallas Cowboys safety Matt Johnson’s doctor’s visit a week ago with a back specialist in Dallas didn’t uncover any definitive answers to Johnson’s prolonged hamstring injuries.

Last week, the Cowboys had Johnson leave early from training camp in Oxnard, Calif., to fly back to Dallas for an appointment with a back specialist. They were attempting to see if a back issue was causing Johnson’s hamstring woes.

“Just trying to turn over all the rocks. You know?” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said last week.
Johnson has battled hamstring injuries since the club drafted him in the fourth round in 2012. Johnson has never played in a regular-season game for the Cowboys. He spent last season on injured reserve.

I suspect they gave him Miles Austin's sheets for his bunk without washing them first.

Broaddus and Mickey were making fun of the guy, talking about how he was going to get his back looked at - they thought it was silly to look at your back when your "hamstrings don't work". That's how far we've come.

There was a point where even bringing up moving from Matt Johnson would have had Mickey telling you that you had no idea what you were talking about. Only took 3 offseasons for them to agree it's time to move on.

That's not how I'd characterize that Broaddus/Mickey exchange. They've had an ongoing dialogue on the topic of Matt Johnson because Broaddus has given up on him because of the injury concerns. Similar to Mickey not liking Parnell because he can't play.

As far as how far we've come on the topic of Matt Johnson, that's to be expected in the NFL where the meter is always running. It doesn't really matter if you can't play because you are unhealthy or you can't play because you're unskilled or untalented. You only get so long on a limited-space roster to deliver, or the team has to move on.

I think the rules limit injury settlements to something like half of a season max. If a Doctor estimates that he can play in 4 weeks, then they will offer him about 4 weeks pay as a injury settlement. Agents can take it to arbitration or something like that, but I think agents try to avoid alienating teams over what is for the agent a small amount.

I'm not 100% certain on all of that, but that's how I recall that it works.

They've made injury settlements with guys like Nate Livings last year who had a season ending injury.

The player needs a lawyer to defend his rights against his agent and the team.

I'd love it if we hadn't wasted 4th round pick on him and, you know, sorted of stupidly counted on him to magically start over the past 3 seasons.

I don't think anyone counted on him starting....especially not as a rookie. Or last year, for that matter, after he'd been hurt so much.

Plenty anticipated him starting - there is voluminous thread support. The real question is whether management made positional decisions based on this hope. Look at the 2012 threads, we are still in the same safety deficit we were then. Part of management's calculus and failure was based on waiting for this guy.

Yeah, you're going to have to show proof of plenty anticipating Matt Johnson starting. The only person I can even think of is Hostile, and he also anticipated AOA starting, lol.
