I've always liked Matt Jones, for whatever reason he never clicked in Jax. I'd love to bring him in if we didn't already have those three other projects.

hey let me help you out with that

I believe he's worth our second round pick... But he's has not shown he's worth a first round at all.... But I like his size along with speed. He has potential to be great, but again not worth a first round draft pick....

Wow, you must have wanted to re-sign Randall Williams to a big contract, eh?

Didn't the guy have one pretty good year? Think it was in his first or 2nd year. Sure wish we had somebody on our team who knew/worked with him who could gave us the scope on his personality, why he hasn't mastered route running by this time, etc. What kind of guy is he, etc? Would be interesting to know what WR coach Sherman would say about him? Also, where's the guy from? Like already said, sometime a change of scenery plus a better OC & passing attack could motivate him. If he comes dirt cheap, maybe.

I disagree, he IS a WOW guy!

In the sense of, "WOW, that guy really sucks for being a first round pick".

Hey, for a 6th this year, he'd be worth the risk, considering Parcells motto of(and i paraphrase) "at some point someone thought of him as a #1 talent"

I'm with you. How would it be that different from Parcells' old philosophy, or what Jax did in getting Troy Williamson?

Jones' problem is that he's lazy. Maybe getting cut/traded would open his eyes a little. Chances are he wouldn't change that much, but if you gave up very little, it would be worth the "risK" of a very low round pick.

Even better, I'd let him get cut and pick him up for free.

From an NBC sports article on 5 possible trades for the draft. Sorry if repost and hope I'm not violating any rules. Not new on site but fairly new as a poster:

4. Matt Jones to the Cowboys
Jones' name has not been mentioned as a trade candidate lately, although reports in January indicated that most offensive staffers wanted to dump him. Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio has defended Jones in the past, but the team has sufficient depth after acquiring Jerry Porter and Troy Williamson to make a deal.
Dallas owner Jerry Jones wants to add some “Wow” to his offense, so look for the Cowboys to get in the mix for Roy Williams. If that doesn’t work, Matt Jones is a nice fallback plan. He has flashed big-play ability as a pro, but isn’t consistent. Jerry Jones can try to rehabilitate one of his treasured Arkansas Razorbacks in exchange for a mid-to-late round draft pick.

How is Matt Jones a nice fallback plan? I guess you emphasize the FALL in fallback. I'm missing the point here or someone is REALLY projecting a guy who could not much help one of the lessor WR corps in the league. He has some skills, but we only have so many roster spots.

That is about it. He has potential, but we have plenty of projects already--so I would lean away from it. But he is big, fast , and athletic. Garrard liked him somewhat in the red zone too.

The guy kicked our butts on opening day in Jacksonville a few years ago. It was weird seeing this guy in a lineman's body running down the sideline with corners. LOL

I had NO idea how a freak of nature like him could have disappeared on anybody's roster. Let alone Jacksonville's.

But attitude would surely make sense as the reason.

One NFL 1st round Payday and a surfer dude is set for life. And the guy loved playing Quarterback. So maybe he could care less about WR.

But if the Cowboys did their research and it really was coaching or just personality conflicts in Jacksonville that was the main issue? Then Dallas might be able to revitalise the career of a hell of a talent and a freak of nature for a 6th or a 7th round pick.

Definitely worth a look see.

Thats might be true and be some of his issue, but the real issue is he just isnt any good. He's a tall guy that runs fast. he doesnt have quality route running skills, he doesnt have quick feet, he doesnt have great hands. He just isnt a WR

He should have been a 2nd day draft pick to begin with

He didn't disappear on the roster he just didn't make plays.
He ran weak routes, dropped passes and generally underwhelmed as a WR.

He does have some upside though for a team that can plug him in as a 3rd guy but again when a guy has 1300 yards receiving in 3 years for a team that badly wants to upgrade at WR you have to question his ability.

That all goes to being lazy. He has the physical ability to be really good, including good enough hands. But making a position change like that takes a lot of effort, and he doesn't want to put that out.

He had the same concerns in college... He acted at times like a burned out stoner who was too cool for school. But he was so talented, he could get away with it. Obviously you can't at this level.

I always say that a leopard can't change his spots, so I wouldn't say things are different in this case. But you might be able to motivate a guy like this, and it wouldn't cost much to find out. Maybe nothing, if they cut him.

There was somebody posting on this board a few years ago who knew Matt Jones in college and warned against picking him. Said the guy was a goofball who didn't take anything seriously.

I dont care if you can motivate him, I just dont see any WR skills in the guy

we're better off with the guys we have than adding him

I'm shocked that this is considered a WOW factor or a good fall back plan. This is neither.

If you can get nothing else, and this guy could be had for like a 6th rounder, then it's a nice move for depth purposes, but it's hardly a wow factor.
