Spears is going to be a real good player. I'm sure of that. That's why I'm not worried about the pick at all. And I'm not questioning it. I never will. Hindsight is 20/20. Especially here.

You simply stated in your earlier post that he has a long ways to go before you would start questioning the pick.

I was simply trying to say that I don't even think it's a question of that, at all. I do believe that Matt Jones is going to end up being good. I also think that Spears will end up being a solid pick. Spears may very well become a great player. Would not surprise me. On the other hand, if he doesn't and Jones does, I don't think it translates into a questionable pick at all.

That's all.

OK, fair enough. But he's got a long ways to go before I start questioning the pick. I'm well aware of his physical attributes and raw talent, but I still like our pick over Jacksonville's.

I'll keep an eye out for him though, Crazy. No doubt he's got the ability, but he's playing a whole new position.

I am all for Spears.....he is a Cowboy......I will pull for you if I see ya on the field with a star on your helmet;) ........I just liked Jones watching him during college....but, the Spears pick was a pick of need, especially back in April. We did not know at the time Canty would be waiting on us....

I wish we played twice a week....this seven day wait kills me! Keep up the great posts Banned_n_austin!

Do you like to argue just to argue?

You're spinning this into something it's not. My remark had just a hint of sarcasm if you know what I mean.

Translation: I think we made the right pick.

ABQ, I'm saying the same thing you are - just different words.

I'll pull for anyone with a star, too ... if they can make a positive impact. But I'm glad our coach has enough sense to rid the team of players like Tony "toast" Dixon and such ... you know what they say about that skunk hitting you in the face ... ;)

Back on topic, I didn't have the luxury of watching a whole lot of Arkansas games, but I know they had a good team and he was a bad maa'mma jamma behind center for them.

I knew of his speed, height and what not because they played Texas last year (great game) and we just barely beat them. But they mentioned his physical ability etc ...

And recievers are easy to come by in comparison to a legit DE. You can wait until later in the draft and still find a good reciever. That's harder to do with a DE.

Not to mention the gamble (although a calculated one) in making the transition from QB to WR ...

Right.

Yes, I like to argue. So do you. You have to tell me when we're not supposed to do that with each other. A key word or something.

I like Henson. What do you think

'Ol one-look Willie is all hype.

Coach Parcells knows this by now. He knew it last year. I tried to tell you guys. But no one listened.

Anything else?

Yes. Your misguided. Also, you didn't use the "~argue here ABQ~" notification.

Tell me how great McNabb is after he gets through a big game without choking...or haveing dry heaves...whatever you want to call it. That is why the truth lies somewhere in between.
WEll, he played in the NFC championship game 3 times in a row without choking, didn't he?

Peyton Manning hasn't played a big game yet without "choking"...does that mean he's not a great QB?

Danny White never won a big game...Marino never won a big game. I think McNabb's level of play has a lot more to do with them getting to the big game than not winning it.

AGain, I respect your opinion...mine's just different.

I agree with you. I like Henson alot! And I have not given up on him. He has all the attributes you look for in a franchise QB. With that said, I am disappointed in what I have seen in his overall performance in the 1st two pre season games. He does not look comfortable to me.......hope I am wrong!

Vick is going to have a good year. Dude has a cannon for an arm. I think he'll eventually be a great QB. I'd trade him for all 3 QB's we have on our roster.
Amen, brother...my only disagreement with you would be to say Vick is already a great QB.

I think most guys who attack McNabb and Manning for having not won a SB and guys like Vick for not having the awsome passing stats are just looking for any excuse to put them down.

Vick isn't Manning, but he's one of the greatest QB's in the game, imo...Bart Starr wasn't a great QB by passing standards either, but he was a winner.
Vick wins football games, and often does so singlehandedly. With Vick, the Falcons win their division, win 11-12 games, and are capable of winning it all. Without Vick, they don't finish above .500 imo...I feel the same way about Manning and McNabb.

Vick is improving as a passer, but I'd trade any player on this team for him right now....yes, that includes Roy Williams...I can almost guarantee you that any GM in the NFL, including JJ and Parcells, would too. With Vick, you can win any game, score at any time from anywhere...he's that good.

Isn't that more important than who's the best pocket passer in the NFL?

Hey BAnned, I think I went from a fairly respected poster to one that people want to say is negative, even questioning my love of the Cowboys, over that one issue, imo....I would have no problem if we released Henson tomorrow...I said from day one that he would never develop into a player, that he missed his chance by not staying with the college game, which is the minor leagues for the NFL.

At this point, he'll never get what he would have gotten by playing QB at Michigan...I'll eat crow if he ever amounts to anything.

I agree with you that Henson missed a great opportunity to develop his QB skills by leaving Michigan and pursuing baseball. That extra year of college football and then entering the NFL would have helped maintain some continuity in his growth as a QB. That doesn't mean that he won't succeed, but it is hard to replace that kind of learning experience.

Now he has to hope to get something close to that kind of opportunity in prre-season games, practice and maybe NFL Europe. And I do think NFL Europe would be a good way of getting re-acclimated. I know some have questioned how playing against guys not good enough to make NFL teams will be beneficial, but that is the same as college. Not every team he faced in college was full of 1st round picks. Indiana was in the Big 10 and Michigan like any big name school will schedule a patsy or two each year.

He may still succeed and I know I am hoping he does(Romo, too), but it became more difficult to do because of his limited college experience and his time away from the game. It takes time to develop.

I never really paid attention to M. Jones college career so I was just curious how good a QB was he. I know he is big and extremely fast, but how good was he at passing the ball and running an offense. I find it odd that he has been slotted as a WR since before the draft. I figure that must mean noboby considered him a good enough QB to play the position in the pros.

He had an average arm and was not very accurate. Great athlete. A good college QB, but that doesn't always mean a good NFL QB. Dantzler and Randle-El were the same way.

He played WR at Arkansas as well. He was moved to QB later because of injury as I recall. He didn't have a great arm but he put pressure on the defense with his ability to run and make things happen in much the same way a Vick or a Young do.

What attributes specifically do you think he has that you look for in a franchise QB?

We're in the same boat. But that's not going to change my assesment of him. Hate me all you want. That doesn't change that his play is poor. Respect is a two way street. Think about it. That said, I agree.

Agree on Vick as well. Guy is a player. And his arm is no hype. He's got all the tools you need and then some ... the only thing he could be more of is a little taller, but that might take away from his quickness.
