100% speculative.
0% based on credible sources.

Multiple teams garnering interest for Walker means large 2008 cap hit.
Something I was thinking about. If the Cowboys want to do a deal closer to draft day to acquire a big time #2 / future #1 WR, they should have cap room leverage available - no to mention roster room.
My dream scenario:
If the 'Boys are potential players in a Roy Williams (Lions) deal, they would be inclined to re-do his deal in order not to rent him for a year. Even though he would want to stay in Texas, it would bad to let his current contract play out - throwing him out into free agency after 1 year of America's Team duty.

I hope it would only be a 1 year deal with incentives and options, like we gave Zach.

He cited a source within VR. Thats not speculative.

I think it was Gil Brandt over the radio who kind of spilled the not-so-secret beans on Dallas after talking to Jerry Jones that the Cowboys would likely get a free agent at WR, then draft a CB and RB.

Although it might not go according to that plan, I do believe that if we sign a receiver in free agency, then we'll be leaning toward taking a corner and running back with our first two picks, with the possibility of trading down some with one of the picks before taking an RB.

I wouldnt mind that at all.

A source within VR could be Nick Eatman, Spagnola, Rob Phillips, Bill Jones...

I actually think Austin has more to give the club than Hurd does. Austin made some great catches last year. He dropped some doosies, but so did Hurd.

If Austin could get more reps/chemistry w/ Romo - I think he could turn into our deep thread. The kid can flat out fly.

Hurd is something nice over the middle but he certainly isn't going to outrun most DB's unless they just wiff.

You dont know one way or another. It could be Jerry Jones too. As such you cannot say with certainty that it is speculative.

Also if it was from one of those guys why arent they writing the story because it is a good story.

I agree i really like Austiin and he is developing nicely. He just needs to get with the ball machine and catch 300 balls a day.

The only thing I don't like about Austin is that he cannot avoid the kicker!

:laugh2: Last year there were at least 3 times he could have taken a kickoff to the house...except for that damn kicker!!

And, yes, there are report around that Walker needs, or will need, micro-fracture surgery on his knee.

Austin is fast. Thats it. There is really nothing more to him.

Where did you read he is developing nicely??? He cant run sharp routes, he cant catch very well, and doesnt have any agility or wiggle to him on kickoff returns.

I hope him and Hurd are cut and we bring in Walker and a 1st round draft pick.

If someone gets cut, it's Austin and not Hurd. The only think Austin has going for him is that he can return kicks, but so can Stanback. As a WR, Hurd is a lot better than Austin. (People are forgetting those two TD drops Austin had in the Skins game.)

Oh yeah, and people are forgetting that Hurd is still only 22. Around the same age as the rookies in the draft. He still has a lot of time to develop.

I'm a big fan of Walker when he's healthy. If we really do have a leg up having Ray Sherman here, then we better take our time physically examining him and make our offer highly incentive based.

Sounds like Glenn is going to try to play in 2008, but I'm not so sure he's going to be able to. Walker has a better shot in my opinion of being healthy of the two.

IF completely healthy I wouldn't mind this signing too much... I still wouldn't consider it if I was the GM/owner but hey Jerry's always been a gambler.

Since our WR coach knows Walker form their days together in Green Bay, you better believe Cowboys have talked extensively to him about Walker. If Cowboys are seriously interested and they probably are cause he offers us the best WR we can find it he's healthy and comes cheap. Also we don't have to be married to this guy. Sign him to 1-2 year incentive-based contract; that's probably all the time he willing to give us to get his reputation as a good WR back and show he healthy to rest of the NFL. He'll be gone after 1 year to a team he can get the big bucks from.

Could you imagine if we signed a healthy Walker and we had:

T.O.
Glenn
Walker
Wttten
Crayton

I know it's a pipe dream that everyone would stay healthy but this would rival the Pats offense of last year if it worked out perfectly!!

With Walker you have Owens, Walker, Stanback as definitely in and then you also have Austin, Hurd and possibly Glenn

You're forgetting CRAYTON!
I don't like Austin at all, just fast, not much else, don't even like him much on return,s, just runs straight ahead never really making any MOVES.
Glenn could be gone too!
If we signed Walker, I think we'd go for the LITTLE SPEEDSTER in the draft in round 2 or 3.
Maybe we trade back up into mid round 2 if a guy like Manningham is still on the board, maybe even draft Desean Jackson at #28 also.
Owens and Walker with Jackson in the slot would create a lot of mismatches.
I don't know if it makes us not take a W.R. in the draft, what it does do and the reason why I hope we sign Tatum Bell also is it gives us the OPTION on draft day to not be pinned in on one position and be forced to take a guy knowing we have that NEED, we could still take a W.R. and R.B. in round 1 if a case presented itself, but we are no longer FORCED on the issue and if a trade comes up or a player at a different position say at F.S. like a Kenny Phillips lasts till #28 or a D.E. we like falls to us, we're not married to the idea of NEEDING to draft a W.R. and a R.B. with 2 of our top 3 picks if we hae Walker and sign a guy like Tatum Bell, we coudl still draft a W.R. and R.B. if the value is there and we like the guy, but we don't have to FORCE the picks, something we've been doing lately and it's been working!

The only thing I think we NEED to do is get one of the top 4 Corners in this draft in Jenkins/DRC/Talib/McKelvin.
