I think you are forgetting Crayton in this post.

Good question. I dont see us carrying 6 WR unless we only carry one FB which is not out of the question.

With Walker you have Owens, Walker, Stanback as definitely in and then you also have Austin, Hurd and possibly Glenn.

If you draft someone you have one or possibly two positions for those three guys.

I honestly think that we are going to hear soon that Glenn is going to need microfracture surgery and will need to retire. The prognosis on the procedure is consistently bad and even then it its a long rehab.

Hurd is a spare. i like him and hes a good ST player and hard worker but he fails to get consistent seperation as he isnt strong, quick or fast enough.

Austin gets seperation and did it consistently last year but unless his hands improve hes a spare too.

i wouldnt hate seeing

TO
Walker
Stanback
Draft pick
Austin.

In all honesty, I think the medical issue is the only hold up to this entire deal. You've got Shanahan claiming the guy needs micro-fracture surgery and Walker's agent claiming he's healthy as a horse. I'm sure the Cowboys will invest a bit of time investigating the extent of Walker's injury and try to strike a deal.

I don't think I'm real thrilled about bringing a guy on that's that old and playing on bad knees. There's one thing that's for sure though, when the guy is right he can flat out play.

Hard to decide which side of the fence to be on with this one.

Do like me. One day be for it and the next day against it and the next day for it...

I actually think Austin has more to give the club than Hurd does. Austin made some great catches last year. He dropped some doosies, but so did Hurd.

If Austin could get more reps/chemistry w/ Romo - I think he could turn into our deep thread. The kid can flat out fly.

Hurd is something nice over the middle but he certainly isn't going to outrun most DB's unless they just wiff.

austin is worth hsving for special teams.. he is great returning the ball compared to everyone we have

What if the Cowboys clear Roy Williams physically...

He would still demand $8 mil and a draft pick.

Walker is damaged goods an will more than likely sign a commensurate deal. i would think one that allows a show me year.

I love how people just talk about how RW more or less gave up on his team last year and don't think thats an issue.

If I were Jerry I'd sign him to a deal structured in a similar manner as what Donte' Stallworth got last year.

Stallworth got $1 million to sign, a roster bonus of $1.6 million, a $300,000 dollar work out bonus and a $700,000 base salary. All this adds up to 3.6 million which we could probably afford. But the real money kicks in year 2. Stallworth was set to make 11 million dollars (10 million in various bonus') over the course of 2008, which we all know the patriots didn't pay.

Signing Walker to a similar deal means if he produces, we got him for cheap and may or may not keep him based on what the WR we draft does. If he doesn't, we can cut ties with him fairly easily.

I don't think Jerry likes those kind of deals with a huge roster bonus, he wants a deal where if they hit on the guy they can still retain them for a fair amount to both sides. When the patriots made that deal with Stallworth they had no intention of retaining him the second year without renogiating it down. I think it was put in there by the agent to insure that Stallworth was released and made a free agent.

I doubt that most would be opposed to Walker if he were to sign a reasonable contract or one based on performance. The fact is that he has had surgery on the same knee three times in the last three years and the position he plays can put a lot of stress on the knees. I'm sure that Denver's Doctors thought he was good to go when they signed him as well.

If we take him, does that mean we aren't going to take a WR early in the draft? At that point we'll have two receivers on the roster with bum knees.

We'd be insane to wait on drafting a WR. We need to get a young one with pedigree.

That's the general consensus among most teams in the NFL. The receiver position seems to have the highest potential for "bust" when it comes to drafting a player early and expecting them to be a great receiver. It's better to sign a young veteran that's proven, and draft receivers in any round but the first. I think Jerry is just waiting for this week to let the market come to him, like he did last year with Ken Hamlin. Walker will get signed to a very smart and cap friendly contract, as did Hamlin and Tank last year and Zach Thomas this year.

So is it the price or the fact that he is 'injury-prone'?

Walker also has problems per some reports. To some, he is disgruntled no matter where he goes. Isn't that technically giving up?

And Roy Williams only 'gave up' when they were out of the play-off race. Do you think Walker would have played in his situation, especially as it concerns his past history?

And if Walker may need microfracture surjery, that is way more of a risk than any injury Roy has had.

Good post. I agree. Most rookie WRs aren't going to do much except run the wrong routes creating turnovers and incomplete passes. Another vet here as insurance for injury and in case TG can't do it is just a no brainer. That is unless TG is doing fine and they aren't worried. My opinion is you need 3 pretty good WRs anyway.

A team with SB aspirations can't afford to hope Stanback is an answer nor is TG going to go back to the year before's form. And altho I like Crayton he is not a 2 WR. Not yet anyway.

I don't know if this has been reported.

Local radio had Walker $60M to Raiders
