Dak Prescott Is Grateful for the Cowboys Team Around Him
The QB has a new lease on life after watching his team battle without him for five weeks, and he opens up about what it was like getting back on the field in Week 7.

That set up the rest of a first half through which Prescott, and the guys around him, were testing their boundaries and Prescott himself was testing the thumb.

“There were the two throws that I made early that, not necessarily I want back because they didn’t turn out bad, but yeah, that was my confidence and that’s what I’ve got to guard against,” he said. “It’s understanding that I do have this team, and I don’t have to try to force these balls, whether it be third down or whether it be a tight window. I have to continue to play the game, check it down, put us in field position and trust our defense to get it to back to us.
We finally have the potential to play complementary football. Offense is going to needs to improve, but there will be times where they are going to need to pick up the defense.

Saying a guy that's been in the league for just over 6 years is the 7th best of all time is kind of BS as who is he being compared to? And what metric are you using to rank him 7th?

If it's passer rating, did you mention Deshaun Watson is ranked 2nd? Jimmy G. is 6th....Kirk Cousins is 8th....Lamar Jackson is 10th...Romo is 11th.....

So do you see how that claim, when you had context, sounds stupid?

You make a fair point.

But how different is that to when people have compared Dak to much more seasoned quarterbacks who been in the league for over 12+ seasons to Daks 6 full seasons???

How many times have people compared Dak's first full 6 seasons to everybody else's first 6 full seasons.... almost never!!

That's more of a fair comparison, correct??

I'm what some would call a Dakstabber but please hear me out.

Dak did this as a rookie. He was a perfect bus driver. A team could and did win with him. He very frequently took the easy pass and rarely turned the ball over. He didn't take sacks. Overall, he put the team in a position to win.

At some point over the past few years, Dak and Kellen got the idea that Dak was a gunslinger and that you had to continuously attack down field. Let's be honest, they had some great games doing this but it was frequently against lesser teams. The team ran shotgun more, play action less.

Right around the Denver game last year, competent defenses figured out that Dallas wasn't really a running team anymore. They decided to sit back in layered coverage in the middle. Instead of adjusting, Moore just kept doing the same thing which was to run simplistic routes into the teeth of the coverage. Dak is left out there waiting for a receiver to get open and either forcing a ball or taking a coverage sack (against good defenses, mind you).

I was hoping that Dak/Moore had learned from Cooper's time. Cooper isn't a good QB but he successfully made the easy throws and avoided negative plays, which is largely what this team needs. The first half of the Detroit game looked like past failures. I'm not sure Moore gets it.

Overall Dak is paid a lot. Some of his fans think he is Mahomes, where he clearly isn't. This has engendered a lot of issues between fans but IMO, Dallas can win with Dak as long as he plays to his strengths and Moore follows suit.

This is a great post and very informative. The only thing that I disagree with is the statement where you said some of his fans thinks he is Mahomes....

I got to be honest with you.... I have never seen any of the biggest Dak supporters on this board, ever post anything, like that. Nobody believes Dak is on the level of Mahomes bro....

Let’s assume for the sake of argument that Prescott is the idiot and dud some fans are claiming.

What does that say about our ownership , front office, coaching staff which all not only support him but have invested in him and their job basically depends on his success.

Is Prescott the Cowboys greatest dud in franchise history for the investment made. If so , whose fault is this. Jethro, his son, Will McClay, McCarthy, Moore. They all believe in him. Are they all idiots???

If there is they are idiots.

There might be some very big Dak homers who think he’s Elite. And have bought into some of the hype .

But most Cowboy fans believe he’s more in the middle.

Hence why I wish people would stop with the Dak stats about most 400+ yard passing games since 2016 or most ppg as a QB since 2020.

Stats can always be skewed to show one thing or another and rankings for the most part are opinion based, so why try to use them to inflate or deflate Dak or any other player? The fact is history judges players by post-season success (in spite of it being a team game) as greats like Dan Marino, etc. are heralded for regular season stats but there is always that didn't win a Super Bowl asterisk next to the names....at the same time you have QB's like, dare I say, Eli Manning who won 2 Super Bowls yet wasn't on the level of Marino in terms of regular season passer stats.

At the end of the day, all sports is is a break from our everyday lives and distraction from the difficult things many of us are going through.....and a site like this ought to be a break from those things but instead far too often we find that it just adds to those things because of stat/ranking/player disagreements.....which are meaningless much like sports themselves in the grand scheme of things.

He makes an excellent comparison. And those are the QB Prescott should be more closely compare to. And who is also similar salary with . Not the more Elite QB’s.

They only provide those stats in defense of the attacks that claim he basically suks. One extreme claim gets an extreme response.

Your comparisons in above thread are more accurate. The Watsons, Cousins, Murray’s, Carrs for example are more his peers and are similarly paid . And have had similar team success.

We need to stop comparing him to the Elites .

I think Dak is smarter than the fans as they think they know it all when they don’t.
We see it on here every 5 seconds.
it didn’t take long like post #2 to derail yet another thread.

one doesn’t need to be an artist to recognize a great artist. We’ve seen intelligence at the Qb position in this league……….and this isn’t it.

Mediocrity personified.

Hard to stop comparing him with the elites when he fixing to take up 25% of the teams salary cap next season. It merely value for cap burden even…..no more, no less

I guess he figured this out right after trying to play hero ball into triple coverage? I believe he actually knows and believes what he's saying, but once the pressure's on, BOOM!

Hopefully I'm wrong this time.
Those 2 throws weren't even intercepted, so why are people complaining? I never heard many of today's Dak critics question Romo's incessant throws every game into triple coverage. All they would say is, "Oh, that's the gambler in Romo, but there is no reward with a risk."...or something to that effect. o_O

I totally disagree it is his confidence. His struggles have been mostly due to a loss of confidence. He’s been dealing with a lot of stuff the past couple of years with the ankle injury and his brothers suicide. He admitted he’s battled depression. Along with the fan base jumping on him it’s taken its toll on him. If he had a problem reading defenses he would have a ton of INT’s with all the passing he’s done over his career. He’s had to carry the team.

and now with the play of this defense he no longer has to try to carry the load. Cowboys have not had this kind of defense is many years even during the Romo years defense was always bend but don't break now this defense attacks.

That criticism is one of many absolute piles of horse dung these "fans" level at Dak. The guy is the 7th highest rated passer of all time while allegedly not being able to read defenses. Dak's career completion percentage is 6th in NFL history. Despite the childish "Dink and Dak" moniker his yards per attempt are generally among the top 5-10 in the league and I believe is top 20 all time. And as you mention.. he doesn't throw a ton of INTs.. which is what USUALLY happens to QBs who can't read defenses.

And I don't think anybody thinks he has played for any offensive gurus in his career either so whatever he's doing he's pretty much doing it on his own. Why it bothers so many people to admit that this guy is simply a really good QB is a complete mystery to me.
:hammer::hammer:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...

It's the still butthurt Romofanatics who have hated Dak ever since he took over the reigns from Romo and never let Romo get his job back. Heck, Dak's rookie performance forced Romo into retirement, and the Romo fanatics have held a vindictive personal grudge against Dak ever since.

Why is that Prescotts fault and not our ownerships , front office and coaching staff?

And the Watsons, Murray’s, Carrs and Cousins are similarly paid with similar team results.

Unfortunately over paying average to above average QB’s appears to be a default of the NFL.

Dak has always been a check-down king. He never tried to force it through tight windows. Guy keeps re-writing his own narrative.

And some of you need to watch the games instead of just posting false info.
And you know, it is part of football to throw a lot of check down passes, as long as they move the chains.

60% (yes I made that up, plus I am probably close to it) Mahomes checked down to Hill and he got a lot of YAC yards. Every game I seen many passes where a WR hangs around toward the sidelines, and when no one was open Mahomes tossed a 2 yard pass to a wide open guy and he would run for 20 yards.

But hey that narrative only applies to Dak. As you will ignore the facts I just gave you.

I know people want to complain about him talking ..... Buts it's not like the old days ....... These guys are forced to talk to the media ...... He has a mic in his face evertime he leaves his house.

Hopefully he has realized he no longer has to carry this team and will only go for it when we need him too.

Ok guys…. at this stage of the game we all already know his deficiencies. Please don’t type them out over many pages.

Is there ANY shot we discuss what we need to do from here to win with him??

Follow the template set by the Ravens and the Bucs when they won with Dilfer and Brad Johnson. It’s not rocket science. Hard nosed running game, stifling defense and opportunistic special teams. His arm should be the last resort and about the last thing you need from him. Take the ball out of his hands as fast as possible instead of setting up these elaborate routes. Let your playmakers on offense, Lamb, Pollard, Zeke go to work.

Dude made the same brilliant comments last year, the year before and the year before that. Idiots like me can see he can't read the field, he can see he makes dumb passes yet here we are wondering why our $40 large ones QB can't fix it. His rooke mistake days are long goneg.....
