Follow the template set by the Ravens and the Bucs when they won with Dilfer and Brad Johnson. It’s not rocket science. Hard nosed running game, stifling defense and opportunistic special teams. His arm should be the last resort and about the last thing you need from him. Take the ball out of his hands as fast as possible instead of setting up these elaborate routes. Let your playmakers on offense, Lamb, Pollard, Zeke go to work.
That Ravens defense generated a mind-boggling 60 plus TOs that season. We are nowhere near that pace. The Bucs defense with Johnson generated 13 TOs in 3 games in the playoffs and a total of 51 overall. The Dallas defense was BETTER at generating TOs last year and if you adjust for garbage time points scored in the fourth quarter by the Panthers and a eagles to start the season last year, the defense last year as far as PPG was probably equal if not better than the defense this year.
That formula of driving the bus on offense is based on significant TO differentials generated by a ridiculous defense that dominated from start to finish.
We are not that defense and part of the reason is Micah Parsons carried the squad, while the Ravens and Bucs had star players all over the field.
It’s not happening this year most likely with the defense, meaning this team is going to need a huge offensive performance of two to compete in the playoffs. Dak struggled against a Detroit defense that runs HEAVY MAN, the most in the league and Dak drops from decent to just awful against zone. And the Detroit defense coughed up the ball 5 times. Imagine against a playoff caliber team, this type of performance.
