Maybe we are not as bad as we thought.

It sucks losing... ever, under any circumstance.

Going 9-7 is so far from acceptable it isn't even funny.

All that said this 9-7 looks a whole lot better after today's games.
2 of the teams who beat us won going away.

If you are keeping score at home that means Dallas faced 7 games against teams who made it week 2 of the NFL playoffs.

Out of a 16 week schedule that is flatly ridiculous.

I have no problem with us losing games against teams like NY, Pit, Bal, Philly, hell, even Washington and Az.

We played really well in 3 of the last 4 games of the year - if one or two bounces goes our way, we go 3-1 over that stretch.

What is the real issue is how we just FLAT &*^@#ing laid down against the Rams, Giants, and Eagles. That is totally unacceptable

Unfortunately Jerry is probably thinking the same thing. 9-7 and missing the playoffs will be rationalized since we lost to several teams that are still alive in the postseason.

I don't know why people insist on making excuses for this team, especially right now. You can't be serious.

The Cowboys aren't the worst team in the league, but we are WAY WAY overrated. There's really no argument.

Who, exactly, is rating us highly?

Anyone that thinks this is a good team. Especially since before the season a lot of fans were predicting 13+ wins.

There is no shame in losing.

There is shame in not being competitive in three of our losses.

...who said this was a good team?

This team was overrated three weeks ago, yes, but as of right now, I'd say this team is anything but 'overrated'.

Rating a team after the season will do that.

It is more than slightly possible the final 4 will be Pitt, Balt, Giants, Eagles.

Actually, it's very impossible. The Giants and Eagles play, and one will get knocked out. But yeah, we did play very good teams in our last 4 games.

The Pittsburgh game sucked, yeah, but the team played hard, so that wasn't too much of a problem.

The Giants game proved that despite injuries, we could get it done.

The Ravens game we played pretty terribly and were still competitive until the second long TD run. However, there is NO excuse for giving up those two long TD runs back to back. There is also NO excuse for coming out and playing like duds on such an emotional day.

The Eagles game showed how worthless some of our beloved Cowboys are. I don't care if you have Troy Hambrick/Quincy Carter/Mario Edwards/Torrin Tucker starting for you, you DO NOT lose by 38 and get embarrassed when you KNOW that if you win that game you're in the playoffs. NEVER have I seen a team lay down like that. However, given this group of players I wouldn't be surprised if I see it again.

"Maybe we are not as bad as we thought."

The Cowboys played much worse than I ever anticipated. They aren't very good.

I've spent the last three years trying to figure out what kind of team this Cowboys team would become. During the Eagles game, the truth hit me right between the eyes - these Cowboys really are who they are - a perpetually underachieving and unfocused team.

There are some high quality people and players on this team, but the team itself just isn't very good.

Here's hoping they manage to turn it around next year. There is always hope.

Were't you around week 1?

Well it's week 18 now. Perceptions change, and that's certainly the case with this team. No one is rating us highly anymore. I don't see how we could be considered "overrated".

Cowboys fans, circa 2008

How low we have fallen...now being like Arizona, Cinci or Atlanta is acceptable

3rd place schedule doesn't mean much these days. That only counts for two teams. Seahawks and Packers.

True. A 3rd place schedule for us still means we play 3 of the toughest teams in football 6 times. God this division is hard. We would have won the any other division outright for the last 4 years.

This thread is amusing and frightening at the same time.

Amusing that some have begun the rationalization process and frightening that they actually believe it.

Did you not see the opening to this thread? Saying we aren't that bad because teams that beat us won in the playoffs is ridiculous. Even now people are refusing to accept the fact that this simply isn't a good team.

You'd think suffering one of the most lopsided losses of the season, with the playoffs on the line, would get this point across, but instead some are looking for excuses to say we are better than we were.

Even after the loss, I've seen people say we have "then most talented roster in the NFL", which is laughable.

Peterson will never become an all-time great RB in today's game if he doesn't learn to block and catch better.

He's clearly the absolutely most dangerous player on their team with the ball in his hands, yet he's on the sideline in passing situations in a playoff game. He's not there to run the draw, the screen, passes from the backfield. I don't understand that at all.

I'd rather have the other RBs giving him a break now and then running and make sure I have him on the field for the passing game...he must stink at it or their OC is dumber than ours.

If you notice, he doesn't get many chances to catch the ball. He is quite capable. As far as blocking, almost every young running back needs to work on it. He will be a great if he stays healthy.

He got the ball 6 times in the second half. I think it's safe to say there OC is an idiot, especially with how successful he'd been early in the game. Who only gives the league rushing leader the ball 6 times in the second half? I know they were playing from behind and all, but they were only down 2 points for a good bit of the time.

In any case, sorry to get sidetracked.

It ain't only about losing. It's the WAY we lose.

I've never quite seen anything like it.

Yep.

I thought it might take til training camp, or maybe even the draft, but some are already rationalizing it after one week. By mini camp they'll probably be touting us as odds of favorites for the Super Bowl. :laugh2:
