Hows Mazi looking tonight? Is that why we drafted him? LOL

He looks even more pathetic tonight.
I have to agree he looked pathetic last night. He was washed out in almost all the run plays that came his way and had zero penetration. It looks like he's on skates and not very interested in being there.

I'm sure he is, but I saw no signs of a first round pick against backup O-lineman. Hopefully he turns it up a notch

The issue is at the end of the first round where Dallas was drafting, they’re basically all “day 2” talents as all the first round rated guys are typically gone.

Mazi wasn’t a reach by the cowboys. He also wasn’t an elite DT prospect because he is very raw. A guy who has all
The physical tools to be elite but only played in a 2 gapping scheme in Michigan and never developed pass rush moves.

So it makes sense he is already 2 gapping well with the cowboys but still needs to keep developing from a pass rush perspective
If you got to watch the game, you'd see that Mazi is slow off the snap. Something tells me that snap timing is also critical at Michigan as well. So I'm not convinced yet that Jerry's 1st round pick was a great one. Mazi might be a 2 or 3 year project.....

You still crying I never said one thing about his talent. I said they didn’t draft him for speed. That’s not my opinion that’s the Cowboys opinion. But yet you’re still picking on me crying lol , you cry anabout everybody that responded to you.

Only the Cowboys select projects with first round draft picks that aren't QBs.

Smith should have been drafted in a later round, or not at all.

Jimmy Johnson only drafted quick DTs.
Yup. Jimmy Johnson had his sideline full of them. He'd just rotate them out during games and wear out the offensive line.
Jimmy knew how to coach. In the end it burned him out.

Of course.

Why do you hurt me like this?

I think the criticism of Mazi is legit.

We spent a 1st on a player who isn’t even close to being a starter.
Not yet, anyway. So far he's been average.
However, I'm hearing that he has tendonitis on one of his knee.
So, give him some time.

Can a DT get by with only his strength/power?
There are many offensive linemen who are just as strong and powerful as any DT, and they're not even AllPro caliber players.
.
So, little quickness and speed can be an advantage for a DT.
Also, Mazi may be a little injured, so cut him some slack....for now.

That’s very true. The trivial position of quarterback for the Cowboys is usually reserved for 4th to 7th rounders or the all to reliable UDFAs……nobody puts a premium on the Qb position like our Cowboys.

the 2nd round selection of future HOFer Quincy Carter was strictly an anomaly

Mazi was a good pick, Taco not so much. In fact...
I didn't even waste my time watching the game. I felt like they weren't gonna show much. They were probably more focused on the long flight back to Dallas after the game. Lol
