Pretty much polar opposites.Speed and quickness are the same thing.

Our rushing D was ranked 22nd last year. We also allowed 4.4 ypc. If I remember correctly, we were middle of the pack in that stat.If you can go back to last season and check out a few plays with Hankins. This is what he did also. Don’t seem like it does much but he takes on 2 people out of 5 on there o-line and usually a 3rd may chip on the way by. That leaves LB clean and can free up a D-Lineman at times.
Not sure that's accurate. Maryland was not speedy, don't think Lett was either. My point was Jimmy Johnson drafted quick AND speedy DTs.
Well, that would be OK, but even more important will be to fill the middle w/ power, quickness, and lateral agility to force the backs outside so they are easy pickin's for the LB's and DB's.Our rushing D was ranked 22nd last year. Let's hope Mazi makes a few tackles before the backs get to the LBs and DBs.
Mazi’s NFL draft profile.
He’s 2nd day talent.
Overview:
“Dontari Poe might be the physical and athletic player comparison for Smith, but more consistency from Smith is needed before he finds the Pro Bowl, as Poe did twice in his career. Smith’s blend of size and quickness is rare. He can punch and control a base block with relative ease. However, he struggles to match the initial movement of move blockers, which diminishes his effectiveness. He has space-eating potential but needs to become more consistent at taking on double teams and securing his gap. Smith’s size and testing could give his draft slotting some juice but he’s more of a Day 2 talent with exciting upside than a plug-and-play starter.”
Do we actually have to punish ourselves by bringing up Taco? Didn't we all suffer enough the first time around?Mazi was a good pick, Taco not so much. In fact...
It is a position that is generally slow to developHe's a rook at a position that takes a little time to develop. I hope for the best, but it's up to him to improve upon said deficiencies.
He has time, but I know fans don't want to give players time. We're the microwave generations where things better get cooked and on the double.
It is what it is.
As well as learning enough to be quick of the snap. Which he should, he has the skillset!!!!It is a position that is generally slow to develop
Lots to learn
He could manhandle college guys but that is harder here. He has to learn more technique as well as learning to read the play at this level
Hope we see some more from Mazi tonight. The issue is at the end of the first round where Dallas was drafting, they’re basically all “day 2” talents as all the first round rated guys are typically gone.
Mazi wasn’t a reach by the cowboys. He also wasn’t an elite DT prospect because he is very raw. A guy who has all
The physical tools to be elite but only played in a 2 gapping scheme in Michigan and never developed pass rush moves.
So it makes sense he is already 2 gapping well with the cowboys but still needs to keep developing from a pass rush perspective
So Mazi only gets snaps on run downs?Smith was a stud in that first preseason game. Did EXACTLY what he was drafted to do. He isn’t Aaron Donald. Not that type of player.
Yeah. I hope so too.Hope we see some more from Mazi tonight.
But the lack of speed and any pass rush are red flags.
You know he doesn’t have to have 12 sacks to help the team right? So Mazi only gets snaps on run downs?
That is correct. I was talking about cowboy Roy, playing with words.I don't understand what you're referring to when asserting the "playing w/ words" thing. Speed and quickness are two entirely different skillsets.
No, that’s what you didHe cant be that slow off the ball if he’s going to be worthy of the pick. He has to be a disrupter. Are you stoned again?
are you going to cry every time someone makes an observation you dont like?
Post more pleaseDo you know how many career sacks Vince wilfork had? 16. Haloti Ngata had 32 in his career, but only 6.5 his first 4 seasons in the league. Each played about 184 career games.
I can see the "mazi doesn't get sacks posts" already... and they are ridiculous. Him being slow off the ball right now isn't a concern, he isn't gonna be warren sapp or Aaron Donald. The guy is there to take up blockers.
This defense has been pretty good in recent years, but its achilles heal has been run d. Especially against the read option. We had no answer cause we were soft in the middle. Between Mazi and Hankins we finally have some guys that can take up space and allow others to make plays.
Not true. NT's don't need speed, they need quickness.Hope we see some more from Mazi tonight.
But the lack of speed and any pass rush are red flags.
That depends on how well he collapses the pocket. So Mazi only gets snaps on run downs?
I wasn't the one that mentioned him first. I just commented on a commentDo we actually have to punish ourselves by bringing up Taco? Didn't we all suffer enough the first time around?
