I tried giving Mazi the benefit of the doubt, but last game I had to ask did he even play? I can understand not completely popping off the screen as a rookie, as not everyone will do that... but I couldn't recall seeing him do anything one time. I didn't say, "Whoa Mazi is really collapsing the pocket there".

I'm sorry, but that 1st rounder shouldn't be a backup who is completely invisible.

..I'll take Parsons opinion, over these boards...lol..

Frankie says, "Relax"
To be fair, do you think Parsons would say anything other than what he did?

I'm not saying Mazi is a bust after three games, but we need a run stopping NT today. The recipe to beat us is out there. We need to be able to stop it.

woulnt concern to much. They have DQ, and his football defense forte.

THey'll make adjustments accordingly.

As for Mazi, yep, its only game 3. I suppose, it takes time to get speed of the game.

You know against Arizona, they ran the ball up the middle 7 time for 17 yards.

We got killed on the edge/outside.
Lve is a whimp for his size and either taking false steps so he's late or just plays hesitant.

Clark seems to be taking after him, which isn't how he played in college.

Mazi continues to look like a bust. He hasn’t helped our run defense. We gave up 181 yards on the ground in the first half yesterday, the most since the 91 season.
So Mazi is responsible for Micah Parson refusing to set the edge and the D getting absolutely obliterated on outside runs, specifically to the weak side?

Mazi has been a bust so far. I’m just hoping at some point he ends up being serviceable.

OK. You obviously feel very strongly about this and I couldn't care less about an opinion that lacks evidence to back it up.

Running up the middle was not the issue vs the Cardinals and their 230+ yards on the ground. That is fact.

Isn't it knowledge to compare other NTs at the same point in their careers to see where Mazi is along with the amount of snaps he gets and what he does with those snaps? He is, after all, a first round pick. I never tried to use the stats to predict what he might become.
So is it your opinion that NT stats are useless or does that apply to every rookie player?
The stats right now are useless. You have to actually watch him play to see how his development is coming along.

There’s a lot of evidence to back it up. His performance in training camp and preseason got lackluster reviews. Where have you been? So far during the regular season the reviews on his play have been mixed. He hasn’t received a lot of snaps during the regular season so far. I hardly remember seeing him on the field last week. The Cowboys are probably already regretting the pick.

Mazi has one solo tackle in 3 games. Not exactly what I expected as a 1st round pick. I do think he has shown great potential though.
Quit thinking that this dude is going to help anytime soon, he's a Practice Squad player at BEST!

Did Mazi have a rough pre-season? Sure, I saw that to. But who was he playing with? Not many starters, that's for sure. But in case I forgot, that is what preseason is for. I care what he has done when games count.

And I hate to break this to you, but neither Mazi or Hankins, both our NTs, have received a lot of snaps the first 2 weeks:
Week 1 : Mazi 17 - Hankins 18
Week 2 : Mazi 11 - Hankins 10

So they were dead even going into Week 3. And while Hankins played more than Mazi in week 3, 35 vs 12, the reported total of 7 carries for just 17 yards up the middle suggests they plugged up the middle pretty well. Hell, 12 of those yards up the middle came on 1 play.

Yet the clear non-bust Micah Parsons bit hard on an RPO that lead to a 40+ yard run by Dobbs. Parsons twisting inside to shoot the C-G gap lead to the Cardinals first TD run in the Red-Zone.

Then it was Hankins and Sam Williams who split and sealed on the edge that lead to the long 45-yard TD run.

Yet somehow, some way, this is all Mazi's fault?

Really? Is that the hill you want to die on? I mean, that's fine by me. I just think it's silly to completely write off ANY rookie based off his rookie preseason and just 3 games in his career. But then again, I'm old-school like that.

I’m not about to waste a lot of time arguing about Mazi. It’s still early and the jury is still out, but so far he’s heading down the same bumpy road as Taco and Tristan Hill. The Cowboys are probably already wishing they had a do over. They would have been better off drafting someone on the OL.

Hey, you could be right. Mazi might end up a complete and total waste of time. Time will tell.

All I suggest is give it a little more time than just 3 games into his rookie season to make that determination.

Unless of course, you have an agenda and/or believe DQ is as foolish as Rod Marinelli who drafted both Taco and Hill.

I think DQ has earned a little benefit of the doubt, but hey, that may just be me.

I’m just saying that so far he’s been a bust, but the jury is still out. I’m not giving up on him, but if I could redo our pick, I would choose someone else. When the Cowboys were on the clock, I don’t remember anyone on ESPN mentioning Mazi’s name as a possible selection. Most on the panel seemed kind of surprised at the pick. Some had Mazi going in the second round.

While it’s too early to call Mazi a bust, the Cowboys should have taken someone ready to help now. The rest of the team is ready to win now. Still think they wanted Kincaid and the Bills got wind of it. Then Cowboys doubled down on their mistake by reaching big time for Schoonmaker.
