Well I hate to say it but so far it looks like Mazi is neither big nor bad. Pretty sure we might get something out of him in his contract year if we can tolerate him on the roster for that long. D Flaw has taught him well.

It might be a catch 22 with Mazi:

If he drops weight, he gets off the ball faster, but is robbed of his power.

Keep him at 330+ you retain his power but he is just too slow.

Pulling for the kid. I hope he fits Zimmers scheme and is able to help out in the trenches
He’s slow off the snap at any weight. Fix that and he might make an impact. He’s always the last defender to move. Maybe teach him to look at the ball not the lineman in front of him. This guys a freak athlete at over 300 lbs. he just doesn’t get off the snap like a freak athlete.

Can anyone tell me if there was another player in history (besides being out of shape) where weight was the determinant factor for success? That really the narrative we are going for about Mazi? So he wasn’t good at 300 but will be better at 328? Really? I am not going to completely bury a rookie NT but Mazi was painfully slow off the snap. Showed terrible feet. Terrible technique. Not sure he could approach 40 snaps a game without keeling over. That’s football not how much he weighs. Michigan DL have been rough on this franchise. Maybe they have another bust. This year will determine that.

I don’t give up so quickly on a player after only 1 year in a flawed defense.

It's good to see Mazi has regained much of his weight. Hopefully, the strength improves, along with the training he's getting as a pro.

Sometimes it takes time and hard work for any rookie DT to develop as well as need be. Perhaps Mazi is one that may improve noticeably.

He looked like he was 238 last year. Guy is a bust, not his fault cause he was supposed to be a 3rd round pick.

Nothing about Mazi impressed last season. His supposed strength was his strength, but he was getting shoved around and he was slow off the snap, not sure adding more weight will will help that
Yep. The NFL is full of 330 lb JAG Bohanna types, and starting OLmen can move them no problem.

Anyone who loses too much weight in a short period of time is going to have strength issues. The body will eat the muscle to sustain itself.

The Kelce brothers were talking about how you can tell almost immediately whether a guy can play based on how they move. I have a feeling Dallas saw real early on that Mazi doesn’t move well enough to be successful so they tried to lighten him up to quicken him up.

Dallas knew Who and What Mazi was when he was drafted the pick that early just never made any sense
Losing that much weight can hurt your strength and it did because he was getting moved like a rag doll at time. Going from the read and react to pinning your ears back is two different styles. With Zimmer type of defense, he just needs to keep the LB clean and clog up those running lanes.

Mazi’s weight is overrated either way. If you weigh 338 or 298, the most important thing is how well you play. I’ve seen great DL weigh 270 and great DL weigh 330.

The biggest problem with Mazi last year was probably expectations. Even though he was a late first round pick, he was realistically closer to a second or third round talent.

Didn't help that there was that clip of McClay saying Mazi could help the team now(2023) when comparing Smith vs Bergeron.

A few months ago I think this theory had some legs to it. Because the Cowboys have him penciled in as the 2024 starting NT though I tend to think otherwise. I'm thinking the weight loss had more to do with DQ wanting him to develop into more of a hybrid player who could line up at multiple spots and rush the passer. Zimmer seems more intent on making him strictly that run stuffing specialist we all thought he would be coming out of the draft.

There are usually only around 20 players with first round grades. Tyler Smith, Tyler Guyton & Mazi were all 2nd round grades. Chiefs wanted to trade up for Mazi so he was going in the first regardless.

What was he last year?
He was down to 319lbs for his Pro Day (323 combine), which was his last official weight. Hard to really say for sure what he weighed last year, just like I'm not sure he is 328lbs right now...

I think the point people are trying to make although I can't read the dudes I got blocked that you're talking to it's size matters but it matters more that you have size with the strength and enough technique to play football because you just can't put any £350 person there in the middle they have to know the nuances of the game they have to have a high motor they have to have the energy to do that all game when they're called upon....

So as much as the job is his right now that kid we brought in from Auburn at big dude can't remember his name he may have just as much of a chance to be the starting nose tackle here I mean that is what they're gonna have to show in preseason games I don't know how training camps gonna work that out but I guess it'd be a hell of a battle between our new center who looks like a low center of gravity nasty no neck guy who's not gonna be moved easily so we'll find out....

And I don't believe for a minute all the weight loss nonsense that's a rumor we don't know how much weight he actually lost because they made him we don't know what his actual playing weight actually was he could have just naturally lost weight because he's kind of muscly he's kind of built a little like Tyrone Smith you know he's big but he's not fat and maybe he just burns wait just by practice and playing so some of it's overblown so I'm not sure how much we can put on the fact that he gained this weight back now what's he going to look like game one and then the middle of the season it's body does it just burn fat....
