This is great and I agree but it also doesn't mean people can't be disappointed or criticize where Smith is right now.

Do you think Smith has looked good? He's looked kinda so-so to me thus far. I don't see why we can't point that out.
In terms to criticism, my thinking is that it’s too early to be worried, much less make predictions about being a bust. Also, my judgment on his performance basically comes down to the run defense. If it’s improved, I’m happy.

Great point. Williams was terrible for almost two years. Jet fans wanted him cut.

A hundred million later…

I just don’t see how any conclusions can be drawn by two preseason games. Do they even game plan?
Yeah, and he went like top 10, right? Most DTs don't work that way. I still think he'll turn out decent. But we'll be lucky if he makes an impact late this season. I'm thinking we're a year away.

Mazi has in my opinion looked awful in both preseason games. For all the touting his size, strength, and so on just dont see it here. He is pushed around willy nilly on the line and dont believe this is befitting a first round draft pick. I am predicting a bust of Taco proportions here. Just one of the worst pics in Cowboys history. And now with the possibility of Overshown being gone for the season a disastrous 2023 draft. We cannot get to the next level with misses like these and that has been the history in Dallas.
Way too early to be a supreme disappointment.

I really don’t understand the panic. It’s just a technique issue because he plays with his pads too high. Give him time to adjust because the NFL strength is there

I don't know the answer to this, but was Ed Oliver any good his first season with the Bills? I don't seem to remember a lot of talk about him.

Mazi‘s stregnth has been touted as legendary. Who as the Michigan State offensive tackle on the cover of sports illustrated that looked like an Adonis and turned into one of the biggest busts in nfl history.
That would be one Tony Mandarich.

Mazi sure doesn’t look like a starter. Pretty shocking how bad he’s looked so far. Coaches have their work cut out to save this draft class.
Even Gallimore has looked better. Maxi Smith is getting beaten by single blockers that if you ever see them in a regular season NFL game something has gone badly for some team.

He was also picked #3 overall vs pick 26. That’s a dramatic difference in talent level. The fact anyone is even comparing him to Williams at this point would seem to be a compliment.
If so, that person who is paying that compliment really needs to stop talking about the sport entirely.

Give Mazi a year of experience, a year in the weight room, and a year of coaching. By next season he'll be a solid piece of the defense. I'm sorry he wasn't the immediate impact player people were hoping for.

Thank you for validation what is obvious to most viewers. Sometime fans are impervious to bad news. But just look at him on the line. His strength is touted as legendary and he is pushed around like a rag doll by second teamers.
:lmao:

There I used my one emoji, felt it was appropriate.

Mazi's strength and push look fine.. stay with me here and this is the big point... He has to work on his technique.. I know its a shocker that a rookie needs to know more than "See ball get ball" when he comes into the NFL but amazingly enough the diference between NCAA blocking schemes and NFL's is huge. How many NCAA OG/C combo's do you think are around that have the talent to reach block Mazi? Kid's gonna be fine now he is learning how to read the tells of whats comming at him in the NFL.
Ding, ding, DING we have a winner. I said from the beginning when he was drafted that technique would be a big learning curve for him. He dominated at Michigan and the Big Ten against inferior competition most of the time. His tape is VERY average against good college Olines. Now he's in the best league in the world going against guards and Centers that are as big or bigger than him and their technique is SOLID. He's got a ways to go but the guys calling him a 'bust' are kinda clownish.
