I liked what we were doing on offense last year, though, so I wonder what has changed. Have defenses just caught on to what McCarthy wants to do or is it primarily a personnel problem?
It is strange. Last year the offense looked completely different (outside of the inability to run) and the personnel hasn’t changed a ton.

I don’t have the answers.

How many years have other team's players been saying the Cowboys offensive and defensive schemes are vanilla?
Agreed. Feels as if they are at a disadvantage before the ball is kicked off far too often.

How many times in the last 20 years have you thought that we were clearly outcoached in a game vs how many times did OUR coaches outscheme the other team?

But Jerry doesn’t want the spotlight or an ounce of his precious credit taken from him, so this is what we get. What comes next ought to be interesting.

That was a misquote on McCarthy. I fixed it below:
Mike McCarthy on Troy Aikman's comments: "I carry weight with me, because I watch all the BK and McDonalds commercials, I get to go to the restaurants, I'm at drive thru, I'm part of the double size menus. So, I have a clear understanding of what Burger and where to eat. Troy's statement about mixing in a salad in particular, I don't agree with the food selection. There is definitely need for improvement in every cheeseburger joint, not just one that he commented on."

Yeah, the one consistency is McCarthy's neglect of the running game. Of course, that goes back to his time in Green Bay.

Called out by a HOF QB and a future HOF QB - If you want insights into McCarthy read the 2019 Tyler Dunne article at the link below. Let me know if you see any similarities.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2828649-what-happened-in-green-bay

Some nice snippets from the article :

"Mike has a low football IQ, and that used to always bother Aaron," this source says. "He'd say Mike has one of the lowest IQs, if not the lowest IQ, of any coach he's ever had."

"The personnel man says the Packers' passing offense was essentially "Get open" and that they basically ran the same routes for seven years straight, to the point where division rivals "constantly" called out plays pre-snap and jumped routes."

...and issues with the GM:

'The cold front of complacency swept on through northeastern Wisconsin every single time the Packers fell just shy of another Lombardi Trophy.
After the Giants stunned those 15-1 Packers.
After Colin Kaepernick zapped their defense (twice).
After the Seattle meltdown.
After an NFC title game blowout loss in Atlanta.
Every time, the general manager who oversaw the team from 2005 to 2017 did...nothing. Or close to nothing. That's what the ones banging the table for both Rodgers and McCarthy stress. They point to Ted Thompson sticking his head in the sand every offseason. To his ignoring the building tension between the two men he brought together to lead his franchise. And to how his stubborn reluctance to sign veterans, despite the rising salary cap, made life more difficult for both.'

i thought Dak was MVP last year and MM Texas West Coast was the reason? You know the offense tailored to his “skill set”…. You guys were saying Kellen Moore ran bland routes…. Only curls..

Now we back recycling narratives..

Well, to be fair--its going to be hard for Mike to carry much more weight at all.

Yeah FAMM - why listen to someone who knows the NFL and what they’re talking about.

And I'm sure Mike McCarthy's coaching style carries no weight with Aikman.

He can't even get clock management down. Do you expect him to formulate a better route tree and actually make these guys run with a sense of urgency and precision?

Is there a position or coach on this team that isn’t a problem?

People just need things to fight about.

Troy, and almost every other NFL film analyst agree that the Cowboys WR routes are trash. The effort and sharpness of individual players is one thing, but the sheer amount of 5-10 yard stops is just unacceptable.

We have nearly the most static and unimaginative offensive scheme in the NFL. It is not doing us any favors.
Is there an underlying cause for this kind of play calling, hmmm, the plot thickens.

Problem with a guy like McCarthy who always says every player is great and everyone is doing their best is there is just no accountability and when you have an owner/GM who is the same way it’s a train wreck of players getting away with not putting in 100% in every aspect of every play. Sometimes you just have to send a guy to the asthma field…

Troy way over-defends Dak because he's invested by years of trying to make a case that Dak is an upper tier QB.

Dak isn't, and Troy isn't going to admit he's dead wrong despite irrefutable proof.

What I see is a complete lack of trust between QB and receivers. Cooper complained. CeeDee complains. The body language is palpable.
Add Dez,twill, Beasley to the list.

I have a small glimmer of hope in my mind that this year will be like before and we will suddenly open up the offense after the bye and stop being so damn boring with everything. Stop routes, runs straight up the middle, etc. However, MM knows this is his last year and he has no chance of getting extended. He has enough money to support himself and his family. He'll likely just retire after this year, they have no chance of winning the Super Bowl and likely just an outside chance at playoffs, so why even try?
The idea that the team needed a loss like that, to now, play like Professionals, is laughable.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy on Troy Aikman's comments: "They don't carry any weight with me, because I watch all the tape, I get to go to the meetings, I'm at practice, I'm part of the games. So I have a clear understanding of what and where. Troy's statement in particular, I don't agree with the word selection. There is definitely need for improvement in every position, not just one position that he commented on."

McCarthy is totally correct on this.
Aikman has become used to airing football opinions since he's a broadcaster. Aikman has not been privvy to 80% of what goes on in meetings, practice, tape, etc.
