Yes, highly disciplined team, Pat did not shot themselves in the foot, they did not make the stupid mistakes at big moments in games. There was nothing amazing with the x's and o's, hell every time I watched the Pats I knew exactly what they were going to do I was never in shock. Pretty basic and executed extremely well with few mistakes.
Yes and the fact Brady was a threat to go downfield. That’s what makes dink and dunk so effective.

Of course they use it to setup big play but have consistently dink and dunked as a big part of the offense.
True, they have. And really most teams use some degree of dink and dunk, with the Pats kind of being the master. But that's not a bad thing as long as it is part of a strategy that includes a notable downfield element. Where dink and dunk gets a bad name is when teams don't include that downfield element.

In the game we've been talking about (the Saints game last year), until the final, desperation last possession of the game, the team only threw downfield once. Every other throw was 16 yards or less, and the large majority were 10 yards or less, so they really didn't include a downfield element in the game plan.

Why would anyone think they are working against each other?

The bigger point I think is this isn’t McCarthy’s offense. And that’s not meant to be a negative.

It’s basically what Moore was running last year. Garrett’s offense which was top 10 most years. And that terminology which was what he inherited with Garrett.

Mike has even admitted he had to familiarize himself with it. That said it doesn’t mean Mike wont add some wrinkles , schemes and input of his own. How much is left to be seen.

You don't think McCarthy has any input on this offense?

Mike Comments: There's common concepts that were run here in the past that I've run for 20-plus years in this league, and then there's concepts that I didn't run in my past that were run here that I think are exceptional, so we'll run those," he said. "And there's some things that I have history in that weren't run here that we put in. That's really what it came down to."

I think the notion that McCarthy is going to sit back and do nothing is not realistic, I fully expect him to be in on what they are doing and what he expects out of his OC and as far as that goes and I think Moore is smart enough to work with McCarthy as they are putting in things McCarthy has done again that is from Mike himself. Moore has been in Dallas a total of what 2 years a HC and this his 1st without Garrett but he will continue to run Garrett offense? WHY his overall back ground goes beyond 2 years

We'll see.

If it was my decision McCarthy would be the playcaller.

I don't know how much of a detriment Garrett was to Kellen Moore. I just know I saw great playcalling weeks 1-3 last year and we went to New Orleans and went into a complete shell offensively.

Everything is sunshine right now. We will see if we have a trendy up to date NFL offense soon enough.
Always so negative.

I think it big games Garrett would be too conservative and I say Garrett because the game plan does not begin on game day but what is implemented though out the week and what is ran and practiced through out the week. I think in other games Cowboys did show more aggressiveness but big games vs tops teams I felt Dallas would often go into a plan of trying not to lose instead of going out and being aggressive to win.

That's a knock on Garrett. Deep down McCarthy knew that Garrett's coaching style was a complete failure. But he didn't want to say anything bad about Garrett.

Not only does McCarthy want to put players in a position to succeed, but also his assistant coaches.

Garrett is the worst thing to happen to the Cowboys this past decade. Not only was he a yes man. He threw people under the bus to save his job.

Thank the NFL gods that he is gone for good.
Gone for good?

I think we play the Jints twice a year?

Since not much is changing except Garrett is in NY..

and knows everything about our offense, OC and personnel minus Lamb..

get all your voodoo dolls out and sit them next to your TV on Cowboy/Giants game day.

Garrett needs to justify his hire. He was hired to beat us.

And in this year of insanity..

I have heard worst.

MM wouldn’t have kept Moore on as the offensive coordinator if he didn’t think that he was an excellent coach. He led the offense last year to one of the best years ever and that’s with Garrett the governor micro managing him.

Dak would go down field as well. His numbers on the season on deep balls ranks at the top. I agree NE used the dink and dunk to set up bigger plays but the bread and butter of that offense was short passes especially those short slants over the middle.

Absolutely they were more aggressive in other games. That's what this discussion evolved from - that they started the season very aggressive and attacking, but against the Saints they went ultra conservative. My belief is this was probably a Garrett decision, and based on the notion that without the Saints having Brees the Cowboys should win the game as long as they didn't make mistakes. The problem was that decision stopped the momentum from earlier weeks and hurt their chances to score. The team made a couple of mistakes even with the conservative game plan (2 fumbles) and the running game was ineffective, so without an aggressive passing game to overcome those things they struggled to score. .

And honestly McCarthy would be doing Kellen a dis-service to not give him input and advice. I am sure they have discussed a great deal!

Yep, I mean I can enjoy all of this offensive philosophy discussion as well as the next guy and add my own xs and os opinions but when it's all said and done it will boil down to who gets the credit or blame like it always has.

Running through the motions of a forest before the trees topic almost, but like I said, valid strategical football points are being shared so that's a good thing.

Just don't be blind to the bottom line way of how Cowboys business has ultimately been done since '89.
To do so is naive.

I’m not sure if Dak is as respected by defenses to go over the top . I’d have to look it up but I’d suspect most of his bigger plays downfield are yards after the catch.

Amazing you’d ask that question after I just stated he would have input in the post you are quoting.

lol - yes, you mentioned 2 plays a few posts back that hurt, and I acknowledge they did. But that wasn't the context of the comment of mine that you quoted and responded to with this nonsense.

The context of the comment you quoted was a response to your comment about the Witten play showing the game plan wasn't conservative with the passing game focused on dink and dunk. I didn't mention both of those plays because (1) you didn't claim that both plays dispute the idea of a conservative game plan with dink and dunk passing, and (2) because the play I didn't mention was a running play, and therefore does not dispute the idea of a conservative game plan with dink and dunk passing.

Keep up with the context and you may not have to have these all cap moments where you are screaming into the computer screen.
emphasizing a point isnt screaming that would be impossible given im using a keyboard..you sir are the lost one that cant give up a debate when you know you re wrong..we lost the saints game over BIG PLAYER mistakes and bad call, not game plans..

Im off this tiresome thread..MM will have games like this against some quality coaches with very good players and it will come down to a few plays and he will also lose if his players make those types of mistakes or gets bad call..

Truly agree with a great majority of your post here. Although my own Garrett/Wade replay scenario actually goes to if this season were to go south on coach Mike then your couple of years down the road opinion be sped up to even fired after this year and succeeded by Moore.
All in the name of Jerry.

Again, nice post bro, Glad to know there's at least one more conspiracy theorist fan who cant let go that its still the same credit addict billionaire running this whole mess, lol.

Go Cowboys
Oh no..I want to subscribe to this club.

There has not ever been a doubt in my mind about Jerrah being the lever puller behind Moore staying as OC.

And that the moment Big Mike had decided to let Moore be OC and he would spend the year learning MOORE'S offense and play calling..

and Big Mike was off the hook for any failure this year.

Moore is the coach in waiting.

Clear as a bell.

This team reminds me of the movie Ground Hog Day.

Everything repeats..nothing really changes.

lol - you quoted me discussing a non aggressive passing attack, and you countered by talking about a running play. And you think I lost that point?

Moving on …

I never understand the attitude that a win or a loss is attributable to one thing, and one thing only.

Why couldn't mistakes AND game plan have been a problem?

Ultimately we will have to agree to disagree. The mistakes hurt, but teams make those same mistakes all the time and score more than 10 points. The team needed a more aggressive passing attack to do that, especially with the running game being ineffective.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw Kellen make our offense look unpredictable, and then all of the sudden it looked like Garrett 2.0 in big games. Obviously I've no proof, but I'm willing to bet there was an issue there both for Linehan, and Moore. Detroit under Linehan scored. They just had an awful defense. Hopefully McCarthy let's the kid do his thing.

What I meant his influence on this team is gone for good. No more vanilla playcalling and blunders during crunch time.

I don't think he knows everything about our offense. And even though he did, who's to say that the Giants can stop us?

Then there is the other side of the coin for some fans.

Me included.

They want no part with anymore feeble attempts to make a star coach from a lump of coal like Jones tried for 10 years to do with Garrett.

McCarthy needs to stop letting Jerrah interfere with coaches and stuff. Moore has proven nothing at all in his career as a player or a coach. I think McCarthy is getting paid..

What? Garrett was paid $8 mil a year. Big Mike has to be getting $10+mil a year to replace him.

Garrett was supposed to be the playcaller when he first took the job. Then Jerrah decided calling plays was too much and Garrett needed to focus on just being a HC.

Then he fired Garrett, hires Big Mike to be HC and call the plays and then Big Mike does a Crazy Ivan and decides he will not call plays. He rehired Moore.

This is extremely disappointing.

This was Jerrah's idea.

He likes Moore and sees Jason Garrett in him.

God help us.

Generally..

I would say we stop ourselves.

But that's another thread for probably mid-season.

We shall see.

I am being pissy right now. Do not like the season at all so far.

It ain't you or your comments. Apologies.
