The mistake was made by the 49ers giving 3 first round picks for him lol everyone knew he needed a lot of development
His scouting report says otherwise.

He’s a phenom.

Strengths

  • Film junkie with high football IQ and an NFL frame.
  • Makes calls to set his own protections.
  • Bouncy feet for accelerated pocket setups.
  • Play-fake aficionado from under center, causing defenders to consistently bite.
  • Passing scheme encourages full-field reads.
  • Processes progressions very quickly and can work to his fourth read when protected.
  • Able to mentally recalibrate his attack when play comes off schedule.
  • Taking care of the football is a priority for him.
  • Rarely takes bait against zone defenders and safeties looking to pounce.
  • Compact, twitchy release partially mitigates his windup.
  • Makes attempt to throw targets away from coverage.
  • Adequate anticipation on timing routes.
  • Makes quality touch throws into sideline buckets and over linebackers.
  • Knows his way around pocket and can make sudden escapes.
  • Above-average speed, athleticism and power when heâs on the move as a runner.
  • Able to move the chains in a variety of ways.

Kerry Collins says hi. He even got a team to a Super Bowl after Jim Fassel changed up his motion to limit the hitch that he had.
Jim Fassel also changed the hitch in the defense that carried Sober Kerry Collins to a Superbowl

Dak says he's been sober too :lmao: :lmao:

Wow, wasn't he a converted safety, or was it the other way around?
Pretty sure Showers was cut that year and signed to the practice squad. I liked Showers, remember rooting for him.

KM wouldn't have lasted long as our starting QB. He was trash. Dak would've taken his job, even as a rookie.

Strengths Cooper Rush Scouting Report

He's a Phenom
  • Started all but three games during his career and was team captain in his junior and senior seasons.
  • Defined by cerebral approach. Has a bachelor of science degree in actuarial science off-the-field and a master's in full-field reads on the field.
  • Juggernaut in the film room.
  • Hits the field with well-conceived plans of attack based on his studies.
  • Makes all the pre-snap decisions rather than looking to the sideline.
  • Quick processor able to scan and decide rapidly. Interceptions are rarely the result of poor decisions.
  • Overcomes arm deficiencies with outstanding timing and accuracy.
  • Anticipatory thrower with a feel for developing windows.
  • Able to lead receivers on crossing routes and long balls and can throw receivers open underneath.
  • Very good natural accuracy. Completion percentage penalized by excessive drop totals.
  • Good pocket poise.
  • Climbs pocket with eyes downfield when heat comes around the corners and can slide left or right before delivering accurate strikes.
  • Has a history from under center in play-action, and pro-style attack and works all three levels of the field.
  • Dump-downs are only a final option.

He hasn’t played enough games, isn’t accurate enough to give 3 first round picks for. For 3 first you don’t draft a guy that raw that’s gonna need multiple years to develop. A 4th wasn’t a bad deal to see if we can develop him at all

This could also be listed as Dak’s weakness!

If they’re adjusting his throwing motion that’s not good, especially with this being his third season.
What's not good about it? NFL QBs .....some of the best make adjustments all the time. Many go to a QB school or have a QB guru that makes adjustments in year 4, 5 or year 6. Nothing wrong with this.

That's what Romo did.

The fact that he is not good enough to make it onto the field is not a point in his favor and I find it strange people are trying to argue that it somehow is.
Injuries kept him from the field

Have to wonder what will happen after this season if Jerry lets McCarthy also play out his contract and goes elsewhere and probably to a team that needs a QB. Lance is also on his last year of a contract with Dallas so if McCarthy believes that Lance has the stuff, then I could see a team hiring McCarthy and brings Lance with him.

Sure Dallas could keep Lance on a franchise tag for some $45 million but the fans would go nuts at having to pay Lance $45 million for a unproven QB.

Injuries only caused issues in 1 of his 3 years (and the injury in year 2 was after he looked horrible to start). Looking bad as a rookie and losing a backup job convincingly to Sam Darnold were not injury related and were simply because he was not good enough.

Again there is not a single QB this century who you can say looked as bad as he did and managed to reach the level of a top 10 or even top 15 QB. It’s not impossible but it would be a historic turnaround.

I have a decent amount of respect for MM as an offensive judge of QB talent and guidance. I think the adjustments he speaks of with regards to Trey Lance have been something more of subtle adjustments than radical changes. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in TC with Trey Lance. He sorely needs additional development more than anything else. I suspect the 49ers wanted a quick solution, rather than a developmental thing at QB. We'll possibly see if things bear that out in TC.
