McClay fans

According to reports, the Trance trade was purely Jerry.
Exactly zero conjecture.

Not only reports, but him bragging about his decision out of his own mouth. He wanted 100% of the credit, for his genius.

This would be true if we always drafted according to the board, but we know we dont. McClay is definitely very influential but he isnt calling the shots
He sets the board. That is the single most influential part of our draft process bc its includes both scouting grades and coaches scheme preferences. The board is not always a player by player ranking. They also lump players by round they think the player should be drafted in. We rarely have more than 20 guys with first round grades on our board from the 2 or 3 that have been leaked. So there is room for debate in the war room before every pick which is what Jerry wants. He wants a room concensus.

How is this my opinion?

Jerry Jones defended his quick decision to trade for Trey Lance, stating that
"his ability to act fast as both owner and general manager, combined with existing pre-draft knowledge of Lance, allowed him to make the deal in five minutes without needing further consultation." He emphasized that being prepared to act immediately on opportunities is crucial, and the Cowboys had evaluated Lance extensively during the draft process. Jones has also said he has no regrets about the trade, even when asked after the Cowboys forfeited a fourth-round pick as a result.

Honestly , I think this cluster**** gm by committee is just a way to diffuse blame and accountability by the fan base

“You cant blame Jerry , he is isn’t really the gm anymore “. Stephen and co are”

“ you can’t blame Stephen , will mclay makes the picks “

“Its not mclay’s fault , Stephen won’t sign any free agents “

So on and so forth . Same as it ever was

The Owner and common denominator is still Jerral Wayne Jones Sr. The guy that wants 100% of the credit for success, but has a plan to distribute the blame.

When it comes to McClay, the scouts, coaches or anyone else associated with drafting, I think it’s safe to say that they are lousy when it comes to evaluating and drafting defensive players. It has become even more apparent the last 10 years.
Maybe but with all the changes to the defense since the firing of Garrett outside of a couple years Quinn was here it has been a revolving door. McClay takes input from the coaches on the players they target if a coach says yeah that dude would be great in our system and he stinks, I put that more on the staff which has been a glaring weakness in Dallas, outside of Al Harris talent development has been lack luster.

Thanks, I'd forgotten all about that!!!

Unless Jerry is lying, the Trance trade was 100% Jerry.

I see incessant claims of how good McClay is at drafting. Starting this offseason, we will see exactly how good he is. We desperately need D help, and we need it yesterday. So, what's going to happen? More CB's and WR's and TE's?

If he's as good as some claim, then it's time to show it.
He hasn't been good for the last 5 years

But for some reason he still gets credit for all the good picks while Jerry gets the blame for the bad ones.
True. But I think it's more of a team effort than that. McClay has his input, the scouts have their input, the coaches have their input and Stephen has his input, while the final call is Jerry's. Any draft picks we miss on our either organizational fail or just a swing and a miss that all teams have in the draft. It's not great to rely so heavily on something that is so hit and miss to stock your team.

McClay is not the GM.

If we desperately need D help, why will we spend significant money on Pickens, Williams and Aubrey?

Is McClay in charge of Free Agency as well???

Is McClay also in charge of the Cap.

Jerry is in charge and he makes the decisions.

Jerry chooses to not participate in Free Agency.

Jerry for the most part makes dumb trades. Then does not trade his own players and lets them walk for delayed comp picks the following year.

Two first round rookies are not going to fix this defense.

Jerry's philosophy as a GM just does not work and at best we will win our Division, to just be disappointed in the playoffs.

GM Jethro's GM Strategy does not translate to wins:

1. Chooses not to participate in FA
2. Does not trade good players for immediate draft picks. Prefers to accept a year delayed comp pick for good players that are not resigned.
3. Frequently drafts for glaring needs and not best player available.
4. Likes to gamble and draft injured players on day 2, that may not contribute until the next year.
5. Waits unnecessarily and overpays the players he wants to keep.
6. Prefers Offense over Defense.
7. Prefers flash over hard nosed football players.
8. Marketing is more important than winning.

Bottom line Jerry is a horrendous GM. If it makes you feel better, blame it on McClay.

Simpletons will say he doesn’t make the pics. Here’s the facts. He recommends the players to Jerry. Jerry makes the pic and wants the credit. He pays Wil McClay very well. To sit back and not be in the spotlight..

Make a mistake. This team is a failure because of McClay.
