McClay doesn't make the picks. He just doesn't.

He sets the board which is what tweedle dee and dumb look at to make the selections bc they have no actual football expertise to select college players. He sits in the room and expresses opinions. He is the reason we selected Mazi Smith. So, I'd say he is the most influential guy in the room even if he doesn't make the phone calls and tell the guy at the draft what name to put on the card.

What I think happens is Dumb and Dumber ( Jethro & Son) tell him what their priority is assuming they are even smart enough for that and Will provides a list.

No, ultimately he doesn’t make the selection or decide priorities but he does set the table once those decisions are made.

If Mazi was on his table then it was bad research for a 1st round pick. I doubt our owners just drew his name out of a hat on their own.

He did for Mazi. Jerry and Stephen asked McClay in the Draft Room with everyone around who they should use their 1st round pick on in 2023? McClay said to go after Michigan DT Mazi Smith. That's what Jerry chose, and we now see how horrible of a pick Mazi Smith has been. They are now willing to include Mazi in a trade before tomorrow's trade deadline.

McClay has dropped the ball a lot lately. You'd better believe Jerry and Stephen listen to him.

The cook is capable of offering a balanced menu of choices but Jerry and Stephen as owners only want desserts and fries on the menu. The food the owners pick isn’t enough to have a good overall menu. The owners don’t have a clue how to build a quality menu.

that was the # 1 pick ,and yes jerry will be involved there ,but from 2 down he goes along with the others.

I wonder if either McClay or another qualified guy was GM in Dallas. Because the draft is one thing, but trades throughout and up to the deadline matter a lot. We lose talent, let players go, or players get injured and the front office sits on their thumbs without out replenishing the roster. Philly won a Superbowl for a reason.

But rarely do the cooks have a voice in selecting the meats or setting the table . All they do is cook what’s presented. Will actually has a say in which meats are in the pan.

I’m not attempting to lessen the responsibility off our owners just add some to Will as well.

Obviously Jethro & Son are ultimately responsible for the selections. For some reason someone has a better eye offensively than defensively.

And it might be like KS has suggested. It’s just not as hard to select OL and key positions on offense.

It’s entirely possible Will is the best we can hope for with these Idiots but he isn’t clear from ridicule as well which you have acknowledged.

I’d argue Will is much of the problem as well. Not as big of problem obviously.

Ultimately you’re guilty by association. Much like our coaching has been.

Like My wife always says. You’re either part of the solution or part of the problem. I don’t believe Will is a part of the solution. Maybe he could be with better owners .

Unfortunately our options are very limited with Jethro. Much like with Head Coaches.

This would be true if we always drafted according to the board, but we know we dont. McClay is definitely very influential but he isnt calling the shots

Id argue some better drafting in limited doses has helped . But basically the Cowboys are an undrafted and 4th round QB over achieving from this franchise being a bottom feeder this era.
