McClay fans

Broddaus alluded to this the other day in his podcast with Voch. He was fired up about it.

And it all goes back to no true GM in the building. Jerry & spermatozoa have no freaking idea what they’re looking at.
He also talked about it on the Fan and how he allows too many voices in the room and someone always ends up mad. Either coaches or scouting department. He just needs to hire a real GM and get more involved with his billion dollar gas purchase.

The problem with McClay is they need him to be damn close to perfect, and when he isn’t, it’s magnified.

They need mid rounders to play like top picks and they can NEVER afford to blow a first rounder. Thats the the big acquisition every off season.

He isnt great, but he also can’t do everything that he wants. He may know he needs an immediate starting LB (as an example), which should be done in FA, but ownership won’t approve it.

The three headed GM thing is a problem. Taking turns getting your way adds up to looking like a strange plan that won’t work.
I think you pretty much nailed it, except that we really don't know how great McClay is, or could be. It's not knowable though, because of the things you mentioned.

Was there a gun to his head on that Mazi 'War Room' footage. Are we led to believe that that was scripted?
I know I reference him a lot — because he's everywhere — but Broaddus thinks the Mazi pick was made because Dan Quinn was clamoring for him, and I can't disagree.

He sets the board, gives his recommendations but in the end Jerry makes the picks. Go back to when Manzel came out and Jerry had to be talked out of taking him
I'm not going to disagree with that.

But the bottom line is, he doesn't make the picks. Exactly as I said.

I've heard that too and don't believe it because I've never heard it any other place. Quinn never seemed to like Mazi from the start, either. He certainly wasn't anxious to play him.

I do believe it with Sam Williams and of course Nashon Wright. Williams because other people have said it and Wright because Quinn personally worked him out, etc.

McClay still heavily supported the pick...as we say about blaming Jerry for being the boss, then McClay should get the blame as doing his job.

I see incessant claims of how good McClay is at drafting. Starting this offseason, we will see exactly how good he is. We desperately need D help, and we need it yesterday. So, what's going to happen? More CB's and WR's and TE's?

If he's as good as some claim, then it's time to show it.
McClay is crap
He uses Joneses to avoid blame and they use him for ‘legitimacy’
Both equally bad with no accountability

This highlights one of the problems with the cowboys team building Philosophy.

They are regularly relying on rookies and 2nd year players to not just contribute. But to be key starters.

It’s just not realistic. Yes sometimes you have rookies who come right into the league and are ready to start and be a good player. But many aren’t. Many need 2-3 years to start really hitting their full stride.

I mean seriously. Every single year we are going into the season with key positions being penciled in as having a rookie start and be a key player for us. And it’s just not working.

Think about it.

Just recent history. Lt with Guyton. RG with booker. Center with Beebe.

Mazi at DT. Overshown at LB.

The list goes on.
Yeah, it really boggles the mind.

It is GM by committee.
So the entire committee needs replaced.
The only way that happens is if the Jones family joins a suicide cult.

What types of players is McClay asked to look for? What players does he recommend and get over ruled by either the coaches or Jerry/stephen? There are so many questions because they guy that approves every move is an entertainer and has no clue how to run successful football operation.

Yeah, honestly my sources are limited to YouTube as I don't spend time on X. If you can suggest another pod without Broaddus I'd be all ears.

It’s interesting. Overall the offensive drafting has been excellent.

But the defensive drafting has been awful.

So many 1st, 2nd and 3rd round outright busts on defense. That’s why the defense is awful right now. You have like 7-8 guys who were drafted in the first 3 rounds who are giving you little to nothing.

Last 5 years:

Mazi
Sam Williams
Diggs
Kneeland
Liafau
Gholstob
Wright
Kelvin Joseph.

That’s 8 players drafted in the top 3 rounds in the last 5 rounds who are giving you little to nothing right now.

Overshown and revel are hurt. So there’s still hope for them. But if they don’t do something that makes it 10.

Imagine if half those players hit and were producing right now. The defense would be completely different.
Those were all Jerry's personal picks :muttley:

I don't listen to many of them myself. I do hear some Broaddus because like you say, he seems to be everywhere. I don't think he's particularly good, though. (To be kind.) I think Mosley and Werder are okay, though I don't think Werder knows anything about football. Decent journalists, though, who do talk to some people with the team and around the league.
