***Mega Merriman/Ware thread***

The reason that Merriman is gettin more sacks is because there coaching staff is given him more oppurtunity....I saw the game Vs. Indy adn he was Blitzing from everywere...The Colts had no Idea were he was at...He Blitz from the Outside backer spots and the inside Backer spots....He probly gets it more than Ware and has a better supporting cast...He wasnt the only one that was Blitzing on there team....They would but him in the middle right and blitz him and the right OLB sometimes.....We only have 1 Blitzing LB which is Ware, that is why we dont have so much differnt Blitz packages...Everyone allready knows that Ware is gonna blitz..

ANd you had to make your own thread when there are 3 others about it?

His thoughts are obviously so important they deserved their own thread.

I didn't bother reading it personally.

The problem isn't just the fact you misspelled Notre Dame, it's the fact Merriman went to MARYLAND...

You've said this on every Merriman/Ware thread so far, and you're not right yet. If you watched the Colts-Bolts game, you'll see that Merriman ran over their tackle TWICE to get to Manning. And he was in their backfield on a regular basis. When he wasn't he was occupying more than 1 guy, allowing the rest of his teammates to get into the backfield.

But, please, continue spewing this uninformed drivel.

Sorry, but I didn't see him running over tackles twice at all. As someone already mentioned, it was the guard. I saw him get to the QB twice without a man even attempting to block him. That's usually what happens when you bring more men than can be blocked.

Also, Ware is double teamed consistently as well. But I suppose this doesn't allow his teamates to get into the backfield because it's somehow different in Merriman's case where the laws of physics on the football field are different for SD than the Cowboys.

But you're welcome to go root for him and SD.

I saw Merriman bull rush 3 times and knocked the QB into the other Dlinemen, and I saw him run around 2 times, and a few times he was un-touched. Either way, he gets there.

Revisionist NFL draft question

ESPN is promoing a weekend feature on the Chargers' Shawne Merriman. The worldwide leader seems to feel he has built "a strong case" for defensive Rookie of the Year honors. Just wondering what the Valley Boys think the Cowboys might think about this, and what do they think of it?

Re: Revisionist NFL draft question

Barry, from Valley boy Matt Mosley's answer to a reader in his column on ***BANNED-URL*** posted earlier today:

I somewhat agree with Parcells when he says you can't measure a player purely on statistics such as sacks. But that's easy to say when your guy has four sacks and Merriman has nine, including two huge ones against the Colts on Sunday.

Ware hasn't had a sack since mid-October, which isn't great news for a guy who's supposed to be a dynamic pass-rusher. But if you're a Cowboys fan, here's what you have to hang your hat on: The Cowboys went with Ware because they thought he had a bigger upside than Merriman.

We shouldn't be shocked that a guy from Maryland is a little ahead of a guy from Troy. I think Ware may be pressing at this point. You remember how he made all those impact plays against the Seahawks in the preseason game? We've only seen flashes of that since. But just because Merriman has made a late push for Rookie of the Year, let's not say the Cowboys whiffed on the pick yet. Collin, calm down and we'll see how this shakes out down the road.

Here's the statistical breakdown that includes the rookie season of the player who Parcells said Ware reminded him of:

• Merriman: 49 tackles, 9 sacks, 3 pass deflections, two forced fumbles

• Ware: 46 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 pass deflection

• Lawrence Taylor: 133 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 8 passes deflected, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception.

Vanilla

From SportsSaypian Chuck H. :

This is in regard to Shawne Merriman and his stats compared to DeMarcus Ware. I don't think it's fair to compare stats, when they both play in different defenses. Granted, they both play in the 3-4, but come on Mike Zimmer's name never comes up when you mention proven def. coordinators, such as a Wade Phillips, Gregg Robinson, Jim Johnson or Monte Kiffin.

Those guys can change a game with their defensive scheme and the way they come up with various blitz packages. Mike Zimmer has been calling a very vanilla defense since he's been there. The line hardly ever stunts, the linemen just do bull rushes ( no spin, swim or club moves) and the can't generate a pass rush lately.

So, in fairness to DeMarcus Ware, a think a lot of people should consider Zimmer's pathetic defensive scheme compared to Phillip's wizardry (if you watched the Colts/Chargers game, he gave Manning fits with his blitzes).

In closing, if Merriman played for Dallas, I can guarantee his sack total wouldn't be as high, with Zimmer holding him back.

I really dont understand why people are so upset that we picked Ware?

I think it is probably because our team isnt doing very well.

I just didnt expect a Rookie to come in and save our team, maybe im just a little naive.

Dang 133 tackles by LT in his rookie year?!! I'm ready to put him in the Hall of Fame.
He good boss.

If only the media didn't hype up Ware so much the weeks before the draft. He was projected like late 1st round, maybe even 2nd, until weeks before the draft and his stock rose. It wasn't til days before the draft that Ware's stock climbed up to like early first round.

Imagine it, we could have had Merriman and Ware at #20. Problem solved. I'm not too big on Spears.

So I made a mistake. I was typing real fast and didn't realize it. Plus i often mix up Notre Dame ands Maryland.

Doesn't not mean I don't know my football knowledges. And I can hold my own with the best out there on the net.

Of courses the people on the tv shows no most of all. Sometimes even as much or more than me.

You are right though I admits I made the little mistake on Maryland--- but what I said mostest important is for true. Merrimans is a superstar and Ware is a busted up pick forced on us by JJ.

Ownt!

I was dreaming we could get both. Quite honestly I really didnt want us to get Spears last year. It's a pick Ican live with, but doesnt make me happy. I wish we could have gotten both Merriman and Ware, our defense really would have been set.

THREE negatives in ONE sentence. Yikes!

So you're trying to say:

Does mean I don't know my football knowledges.

Doesn't mean I know my football knowledges.

Does not mean I know my football knowledges.

And since when can you start adding an s to knowledge. Did I miss something since grammar school?
