So now we are actually listening to Kiper because he likes what we did yet when he doesn't, he is the biggest goof on the planet?

Gotta love this stuff.

After re-reading all the positives about Spencer, you really forget how an effect pass rush can cause your secondary to be even more effective. Yes, the Boys have some issues in the secondary, mainly at the FS position, but a pass rush can effectively help that weakness to a degree in getting to the qb.

I really am looking forward to seeing Spencer in a DC uniform and hope that he is very successful.

Considering how our pass rush has been in recent years, and that we picked Spencer for his pass rushing abilities compared to the pass rushing skills of others currently on the team (or lack thereof...) ... I surely "hope" that he's on the field quickly!

Kiper was saying Spencer will be DROY way before the draft.

He absolutely loves him.

Let me add this little tidbit... During the draft, right after the Cowboys selected Anthony Spencer, Kiper said that T Joe Thomas, who was considered the best Tackle in the draft since Orlando Pace, mentioned that Anthony Spencer was the ONE guy who gave him the most trouble out of everyone he has ever faced in college.

Now that speaks volumes.

There will be no more New Orleans debacles with DWare, Spencer AND Carp on the field together I assure you.

Joe Thomas and Levi Brown also said Spencer were their toughest competition.

Nice to hear that from 2 top 5 picks.

With so many teams starting to make the switch to the 3-4 it's surprise he didn't go earlier. From what I heard New England was going to take him. Once we took him, they traded down with the 49ers. We won't know until next year, but I think he will be worth more than the 49ers first round pick they gave new England. I think the 49ers will win their division next year.

Who will be the forth LB? James or Ayodele? :) Neither provide much pressure rushing the passer. Although, Ayodele is a DE convert I beleive.

It should be noted that Spencer is a hard hitting player with absurd run stopping ability... I think he'll develop pass covering skills eventually but our main need is getting to the QB and stopping the RB in the backfield more!

Last year Kiper touted Cameron Wimbley as rookie of the year on defense. :)
Even though I am glad we took Carpenter, I still feel that Wimbley was our guy and would have fit better in our scheme. Too bad Cleveland took him first.

Bradie certainly had more production than Ayodele, but also hurt the team in coverage situations and by being out of place at times. I think the best scenerio would be to bring in James in short yardage situations in place of Ayodele (starter) and to start Carpenter along side Ayodele with Burnett replacing Carp in passing situations. A good rotation of the LB corp should give us fresh legs in the 4th and late in the season when we usually break down. A quick look at our LB production with Merriman and Wimbley thrown in for kicks.

Akin Ayodele Ht: 6-2 Wt:250
2006 (16 games): |84 Tackles| 1.0 Sack| 2 INTS|

Bradie James Ht: 6-2 Wt: 250
2006 (16 games): |103 tackles| 0.0 Sacks | 1 INT| 2 FF|

Kevin Burnett Ht: 6-3 Wt: 240
2006 (16 games): |40 tackles| 1.0 Sack| 1 INT| 1 FF|

Bobby Carpenter Ht: 6-2 Wt: 257
2006 (13 games): |19 tackles| 1.5 Sacks|

DeMarcus Ware Ht: 6-4 Wt: 257
2006 (16 games): |73 tackles| 11.5 Sacks| 1 INT | 3 FF|

Greg Ellis Ht:6-6 Wt: 270
2006 (9 games): 31 tackles| 4.5 sacks| 1 INT| 3 FF|

(Just for comparison)
Kamerion Wimbley Ht: 6-3 Wt: 245
2006 (16 games): 62 tackles| 11.0 Sacks| 1 FF|

Shawne Merriman Ht: 6-4 Wt: 272 On steroids
2006 (12 games): 63 tackles| 17.0 sacks| 1 INT|4 FF|

Kevin Burnett 6-3 240 (some reports he got down to 230 - he probably has had trouble getting his weight back up with all the injuries)[/QUOTE]

i would love to se KB get more time.

Okay. I believe that Ware is going to be Defensive Player of the Year, so if Kiper's opinion comes to fruition..............

Where is the Superbowl again?:lombardi:

The secondary on this team was ranked 24th in the NFL.

The Cowboys should have addressed this in the draft.

We also ranked low in sacks as well. No secondary is going to have a lot of success if the QB is able to stand back there and pick you apart.

I know that it makes sense to you, but it doesn't work that way...

2006 34 Sacks Passing Defense 24th 219.0 YPG
2005 37 Sacks Passing Defense 11th 192.7 YPG
2004 33 Sacks Passing Defense 21st 220.1 YPG
2003 32 Sacks Passing Defense 1st 164.4 YPG
2002 24 Sacks Passing Defense 19th 215.6 YPG

As you can clearly see, sacks do not make a Pass Defense great.

Our 2003 team was ranked 1st, but only had 32 sacks.

The Cowboys needed to draft a quality, blue chip corner.
