I dont know if this was brought up yet or not, I can't read through the stupid thread and keep up with all the posts.

Inside the NFL did a story on HGH/Steroids before the season or right after it started I dont remember when. They talked about the league cracking down on steroids, but how they dont yet test for all forms of HGH. Jerry Jones was a guest on that program and they talked about how there are always some docs that will "assist" some players to bulk up.

I tried to find a link to it and couldn't on their site but I seem to remember the league saying that they thought about 5% of the players abused the policy and that they are trying very hard to avoid a situation like MLB found themselves in. I think that 5% is probably an accurate assesment and any player willing to gamble on it is a moron. You will find that the NFL has zero tolerance for steroid abuse because it gave Baseball such a black eye.

I will continue to search for a link and post it if I find it.

For the love of sweet baby Jesus...look up the difference between "your" and "you're".

i've come to find when people use shortcuts in words, it's pretty pointless to point out "real" grammar errors.

Bob Dole has not gone back on that. Bob Dole will take the player that Merriman has been thus far in his career over Ware - whether it is still that way with Merriman off roids remains to be seen.

So you'd take Merriman and the 4 game suspension and a threat of a one year suspension over Ware who hasn't been tested positive??

Good to know. Glad you're not in our front office.

But don't condemn one guy when you won't do the same to others who have done worse.

Most drug users take them out of weakness...psychological weakness. Friends and family, often, in fact, usually get hurt by that dependency. But the user himself is typically the biggest victim of his own addiction.

Steroids are different - not taken out of excapism or inability to deal with reality but to intentionally enhance advantage. To create an unfair advantage. To CHEAT.

Societally, narcotics are a far worse problem, but in competitive sports, steroids and their satellites are rightly considered the most serious threat.

Doesn't matter if it's a race horse, an outfielder, an Olympic runner, or a linebacker, 'doping' for competitive advantage is a threat to the integrity of the sport.

I love how the "Merriman over Ware" agenda has now been so defeated, its proponents are now resorting to include Michael Irvin into their arguments.
Yep. It's Janet Reno vs. Jessica Alba in a bikini contest and Janet is slinging mud about silicone. Like that helps.

So why take them?

Because you can always be better, or at least that's what athletes think.

Barry Bonds was a hall of famer without steroids.

It's the old "bait and switch", the "old switcheroo", a modern day frickin' Houdini I say....

This is a much larger issue than 'i told you so, we made the right decision. parcells+scouts are right, anonymous internet poster is wrong.'

After an October 10th, 2006 visit to congress, Roger Goodell was quoted as saying "I don't think [steroids] is a problem," and promising to enhance and update testing. Well, since that visit 3 players have already been suspended for steroid use, Matt Lehr (16th), Shaun Rodgers (18th), and of course Shawne Merriman (today).

If the previous poster was correct and 6 players were randomly sampled in a week, and 16%-33% were testing postive we are looking at a huge problem in our game.

Ware was a better choice than Merriman just as Julius Jones and a first round pick were better then Steven Jackson or Roy Williams was over Quinten Jammer or terence newman was over Terrell Suggs, you get the picture. Good drafting this decade, good drafting.

If it's steroids, one test = 4 games, I think.

interesting. just looked that up -- you are correct. 1st is 4, 2nd is 6, 3rd is a year.

6 players from each team are randomly selected for a test each week of the season. i can work out the probabilities on this later -- just based on a rough estimate, in 22 games, Merriman has about a 5% chance of NEVER having been tested before this week. Similarly, it wouldn't be surprising if he were tested multiple times.

Hilarious.

But there's no way he knows what "obtuse" means.

Or "Most."
