both are quality but i prefer motorhead, sabbath and diamondhead

How about a little Danzig? ;)

I do prefer Metallica's Blitzkrieg and Am I Evil to Diamondhead's original versions.

metallica is the most overrated band of all time.

:laugh2:

I can't for the life of me figure out why people write things like this. I mean, they are only one of the most influential bands in heavy metal history. They are the Beatles of Heavy Metal and yet people make such asinine comments.

You can debate who you think is better, but to call Metallica overrated is just plain ignorant. That would be like saying Elvis was overrated. Elvis changed the game. Metallica did the same thing for heavy metal.

I like Megadeth but I would say Metallica and it is not even close in my opinion. Nothing Megadeth ever did can compare to Ride the Lightning or Master Of Puppets.

Posts like this are exactly why Metallica is overrated. They are a decent band, but people act like they are gods. Sabbath changed the game for heavy metal. Metallica has maybe 10-20 good songs out of hundreds. Even most die-hard metallica fans i know don't actually listen to half their music. And if you listen ot the early stuff, you can tell the riffs are Mustaine. They sound more megadeth than Metallica.

You made a valid point there...I do not listen to anything Metallica past the Black Album...nothing....as for Megadeth...oh yeah.

Two songs credited to Dave a Ride the Lightning, nothing on Master of Puppets, and nothing on AJFA. Thats their best three albums IMO and Dave helped write two songs which aren't even the strongest songs of that album.

It just bugs when some people act like he invented Metallica.

He didn't invent Metallica, but he's a main reason they ever got signed to begin with. He was the most talented member of the band and driving force when they were becoming a popular underground group.

And just a little fact check...
"During his short time in Metallica, Dave Mustaine toured with the band, co-wrote four songs which appeared on Kill Em All, and co-wrote two songs which would eventually appear on Ride the Lightning. Mustaine has also made independently unverified claims to have written parts of "Leper Messiah" from Master of Puppets.[5] He also recorded several songs with the band including the No Life 'Til Leather demo tape."

the most talented of either band is James Hetfield.

You can tell when people preach crap they know nothing about. Dave had minimal to do with ride the lightning yet they try to give him crest for it.

Not only that, but master of puppets was probably metallicas best overall album and what sent them to superstardom. What did Dave have to do with that? Yep not a damn thing.

Dave is extremely talent and everyone has an opinion of who is better, but don't stand up here and post bull****. You will get called out and look like a damn fool.

Excuse the typos and crap typing from my phone.

I've seen them both live on several occasions and I can't say that I agree with you on the live performance part. They are both excellent though.

Let's start from the top......there is no question that he was the most talented member of Metallica at the time they were making a name for themselves in Cali. James couldn't play guitar when they first formed the band. Cliff wasn't even in the band, and Lars was a very amatuer drummer. Eventually James learned to play, but to say that he was more talented than Dave Mustaine during the "No Life Till Leather" days is laughable.

I didn't give him credit for Ride the Lightening. I stated the facts that he cowrote 2 of the songs, an gives himself credit for Leper Messiah too. Those are facts, no BS there.

What the hell does Master of Puppets have to do with anything I said? You need to re-read my original comments before you start "calling me out". :laugh2:

Like it or not, he was the main reason they get signed to begin with. He was the driving force behind them during the early years, when they were taking the west coast by storm, BEFORE THEY HAD A RECORD OUT.

For the record, I think James is a great front man. And his voice is perfect for metal.

Remember, Dave never wanted to sing, but he kinda got thrust into the role and it just stuck. I really like his style, I think it fits their music perfectly. However, I would give the nod to James if I had to pick 1 to be the lead singer in my band. Of course I'd pick Dave for guitarist. :) Which begs the question....Would we have more or less great music from these guys if they had stuck together?

Could the semi-original lineup of Metallica top all the combined work of Megadeth & Metallica?

I quoted you, but I wasn't responding to you through the entire post. Sorry if it came off that way.

Talent is something you are born with. James' skills may have been limited early on, but his talent has always been there. There is a reason Metallica's bank account is 100 fold what Dave's is.

That said, IMO James' real talent is as a singer, but even more so as a lyricist. Lets face it, Dave's singing isn't exactly top notch. His talent is playing the guitar.
