Negative...by a country mile.
Cliff Burton was.
Mustaine is better than Hetfield.A superior musician, can do it all.Lead, rhythm, you name it,Mustaine is better specially live.

Cliff was a beast all his own, but you need to put the crackpipe down. Especially with the Mustaine was better live crap. I've seen them both several times and that isn't even close to being true.

Dave is the better guitarist and there is not even room for argument on that front.

You could say James is the better singer, the better front man, the better writer and they are all legit arguments...but better guitarists...dave wins hands down, not even a contest.

And I will also say that Dave's voice fits his music...he is not the best singer by any stretch but I can not even think about their songs without his voice.

Just like Geddy Lee is not the best singer, heck once could argue that he has a terrible singing voice...but it works for Rush and you just can't think about great songs like Tom Sawyer with any other voice.

Popping in a Sammy Hagar would make that sound a little odd.

I quoted you, but I wasn't responding to you through the entire post. Sorry if it came off that way.

Talent is something you are born with. James' skills may have been limited early on, but his talent has always been there. There is a reason Metallica's bank account is 100 fold what Dave's is.

That said, IMO James' real talent is as a singer, but even more so as a lyricist. Lets face it, Dave's singing isn't exactly top notch. His talent is playing the guitar.

Interesting take on what I said. I would argue that Dave's talent was more "mature" at the time I'm referring to.....does that make it better?

I'm the greatest guitarist in the world so I guess it really doesn't matter! :laugh2: :p:
