Micah, can you just be a bit more humble?

 and you are the worldly one.

I'm from Texas and regardless of where I am in Texas, banter and trash talk is a way of life amongst men. It doesn't bother me at all.

In fact, I have found that I can take advantage of it. For example, at the poker table if I want someone to bet at me, I take a guy like you that is bothered by such behavior and I make eye contact with you and laugh on a beat. That makes them predictable. On the one hand, I cannot bluff him but if I have the nuts I have a much better chance at a payout. I learned that quite by accident but it has served me well.

At the end of the day there is more than one way to skin a horse. I am a huge Spurs fan and that franchise has enjoyed two of the most historic Silent Assassin types in NBA history with Gervin and Duncan.

Gervin talks about how he became the Iceman at Eastern Michigan. He got caught up in the trash talk and got carried away. It took him out of his game and they lost. He vowed to never get caught up in that again and remained stoic throughout his career. That was wise. If you get carried away and lose focus then keep your mouth shut.

In contrast, Duncan was asked about his stoicism and he just said he wasn't any good at it so he did not do it. Again, wise.

At the same time two of the biggest smack talkers in the NBA were Jordon and Bird. Bird used to tell his opponents the play beforehand just like Larry Allen with his choo choo. You cannot argue their success.

If Parsons starts to lose focus because he gets carried away and it loses them games then that is one thing. But OTOH if he gets teams to overadjust to his presence and triple team him giving his team and advantage like we saw in NY this past weekend then thank you very much can I have another.
I'm from NY...we PRACTICALLY INVENTED TRASH TALK - SEE NAMATH Home of hip-hop music...just stop. And get out more...some Texans think they don't need to leave the state.

There are RULES to when and how you trash talk...those who only inherited the swag but not the rules find out the hard way. These posts about "let him talk" will not age well.

Micah is king of the mountain. Let him have his fun. If he starts to suck then he needs to shut his mouth. Unless he has won a super bowl. Then he can keep talking.
King? Seriously? He is RUNNER UP for defensive player of the year. What is he "king" of?

See, this is the stuff that gets to a young man's head and makes him say dumb things. All of his elders are giving him credit for something he hasn't done yet. And that creates HUBRIS.

As the carpet-bagger Bill Parcells said, "All potential means is that you haven't done anything yet." Micah has done SOME THINGS, but he hasn't done the SOMETHING that would make him a king.

Guys who can talk during week 1? That's a very, very, very short list. Of course, anyone can open their mouth and words can come out...but I bet NONE of these "let Micah speak" posters will revisit this thread if we start losing...as if that can't happen. Or Micah gets injured. Or the team collapses. Or the competition is better than he thought. But guaranteeing SB after week 1? What happened to not counting chickens before they hatch?

Oh yeah...we live in a world where someone can cover over their past BS...with more BS.

If he's destroying other teams along the def players.. let him? You forget how good Richard Sherman was and how big his mouth was. He backed it.
When Sherman was talking he WAS TALKING TO ONE PERSON. He was a 5th round pick playing in Seattle and was the best corner in the game, but couldn't get any play. So he barked. Is that what Micah is doing? No, Micah is speaking to, for and about people on other teams. For almost 100 years that was a no-no in the NFL...FOR A REASON. And not because people didn't want to do it or do it occasionally.

These things normally don't end well. I hope it does for Micah, but the odds are NOT on his side.

I'm saying at his production, he can talk all the garbage he wants.

Talk is just talk. If the other guy gets psyched out from competitive banter then that's their problem. Micah might also need this get himself in the zone. Irvin was similar. It may seem distasteful, but it takes this kind of attitude to win and maintain championships.

To a point. At some point, it becomes counter-productive.

There are rules that supercede sports and media: "In the abundance of words there does not fail to be transgression...". In other words, the more you say, the more likely something unnecessary, stupid or counterproductive is to come out. To then sign up for a weekly podcast? He doesn't need the media and he doesn't need the unnecessary exposure.

And again, once you sign up as a team leader, you bring heat on the entire team. This is why guys like Dak and other team leaders MEASURE their words. You can't do that when you sign up to get likes and clicks during the season.

It's a little too much "I" and not enough "we". Micah is obsessed with his own greatness...but leadership is sacrifice. And sometimes that comes in the form of shutting up.

What Micah is doing is not leadership. This is nuts. What Micah is doing is equivalent to "we will win the ball game" EVERY WEEK FOR 17 WEEKS. He's already told us "we're going to the SuperBowl, buckle up"...so what's he supposed to say every week? And then you critique the coaching and GM decisions of your opponent?

This VERY THING is being used by Deion with his tieam. All it takes is an unintentional slight. And for what? Clicks and likes?

This is not a generational thing for me. It's not a platform thing for me. This is plus/minus...pros/cons. As a coach/GM/fellow teammate, I would not like this. I LOVE it as a fan...but if I was a team official, I would strongly discourage this from my superstar.

Sidenote: The ONLY way I could support this is if Micah was trying to ratchet up the pressure so high that it becomes normal...like Jimmy did. To me, that is one of the few antidotes to the toxic Super-Bowl-or-Bust clown environment that Jerry creates. But I don't think that's Micah's intention...this is clearly about his platform, his money, his profile and his campaign to be Defensive MVP. Obviously. hope he gets it all and I hope he gets away with it. But it's not smart.

...and stop commenting on social media about work-related issues? Every other day, there's a new story about what Micah has to say about whoever/whatever. Wish he would just shut up and play football, which - undeniably - he does extremely well. I just think he puts a lot of bad karma out there.
Lions are not humble. They are predatory, fight for territory, make a lot of noise, and when they take the pride, they kill the young of the other lion.

Its sort of like football (except for the last part).
