Point is he succeeded in college and in the preseason in the NFL. And yes, the preseason does matter to the young guys trying to make the bottom of the 53 man roster.

Giving him a chance to improve while on the PS makes A LOT of sense.

Honestly, I was thinking that with his size and speed he could make a pretty good transition to fullback.

His instincts are at partially to confront a blocker and then explode towards a stationary quarterback. I don't think that converts into an ability to block a defender head up.

He has physical ability that dominates his athleticism...not just a raw instinct that a fullback needs. He has to spend more analysis time and then explode, than a fullback on the move.

isn't he going to have a "reality TV" thing going on through all this? Jerry might enjoy the added attention but that can backfire if somebody on the team is accused of bias or mistreating the guy.

This is a terrible move, awards in college don't mean anything to me, this guy isn't that good and his circus isn't worth the trouble because it doesn't match or exceed his talent

Please explain how, exactly, the media circus will hurt this team's performance. I don't understand.
Wasn't there a media circus during our 90's run?

Calm down. Everything will be ok.

I posted on this earlier. I actually like this move. As a 1st round or 1st day or even 4th round pick, I didn't want him. As a possible PS candidate, the situation is a good one IMO. He needs to be coached up and he needs to learn how to be a contributor in other areas and the PA could provide him with the opportunity for that.

The media attention on him should not be great and I don't see him as a distraction for the team, under those conditions but if it becomes to disruptive, then you simply release him at very little cost and bring in another player that can be developed.

Best possible situation for both sides IMO.

Lol, just how many interviews of a practice squad player can there be...and people just not start to laugh at the media?

Last I checked, we are NOT in position to decline any type of pass rush we can generate. If someone's mother can rush the passer, I want to give her a look. People act like we're a good franchise and we can turn down talent. Pulease

Yeah, why play the preseason if it serves no relevance? What the heck are the coaches looking at? Individual player performances. All Sam has done is produce this preseason. He couldn't do any more than that. With all the riff raff that litters a lot of teams practice squads I'll take this kind of guy. I'd even go one better and put him on the roster and in the game against the 49ers.

I just wish I could have gotten a couple more jokes in before the smackdown.

Practice squad makes some sense...some.

Gives the team a pass rusher in practice for reps. Also let's them see over the course of the season if this guy can play at the next level for real.

Just remember the 07 giants . They were all beat up at the DL to begin the season . Toward the end everyone got healthy and they were the reason why they won the Super Bowl . I'm not coompairing the dallas DLine to NYG . But , let's say Melton and Spencer comes back to pro bowl form . Brent comes back and is solid and Lawrence and Sam come in fresh on 3rd downs and wreck havoc ? What if ? You can't say Lawrence and Sam aren't talented ....

I think spencer, Lawrence , Selvie , Mincey , Sam would be a solid rotation .

From Schefter's article, "If Sam passes his physical, the Cowboys intend to sign him to their practice squad, the source said."

Is it normal protocol to say a guy gets signed if he passes his physical and no workout required? Albeit practice squad.

Matt johnson stayed on this roster for TWO years and couldnt even suit up for the preseason. I really dont get all the backlash. We need pashrushers and Sam can get after the QB. The knock is he is only a situational player and cant play special teams.

If there is going to be a circus, it should be over Jerry guaranteeing Brent a roster spot.
