Mike Fisher on the radio this morning

Still, I really can't believe you're comparing Kyle Orton to Troy Aikman. Sounds like you're just trying to veil a dislike for Romo. People in the NFL that really know football would laugh you out of the room.

So that's how we roll? No veil, just objective discussion.

Are you telling me that Romo is a true pocket passer? I think that was discussed ad nausem last week.
He moves to avoid pressure therefore allowing guys time to get open. Does that sound like a Norv-style offense to you? If so, you really haven't paid attention.

I see what you're saying, and it's a fair point. But I think you're putting Norv in a box, and perhaps misrepresenting Romo a bit as well. He scrambles and moves out of the pocket when he has to, but I don't think he likes doing it that much anymore. And he's a fine pocket passer, when he has a pocket to pass from. And Orton is taller and has a more overhand motion, yes, but he is flawed. Now, if we're talking a guy like Andrew Luck, then yeah, I'd say he's a better fit. And if Romo doesn't respond very well with his back situation, well then sure, Orton would likely be better, but I would hope we could get better than him, and I bet Norv would want better than him.

I would be interested, though, to hear what Norv really thinks about the prospect of working with Romo. Maybe he feels like you do. I doubt it, but perhaps.

I agree with most of what you say here. I also agree that it would be interesting to see the mix. I do know that Norv would not allow Tony to be the passing game coordinator in the meetings each week. It could be the best thing for Romo and the team in the long run having a strong minded coach that dictates the plan.

That's not the case right now.

I don't understand why you're putting Norv's offense into a box. Like he couldn't adjust to coaching a different style of QB? It just so happens that he spent the majority of his career coaching two big pocket passers in Rivers and Aikman. That doesn't mean he chose them specifically, or that he couldn't adjust his offense to coaching a different kind of QB.

In 2006 he got the best season anyone had gotten out of Alex Smith until a few years ago and Smith is much more of a "scrambler" than Romo could ever dream of being.

That could be an interesting discussion between Garrett, Jerry, and Norv. Garrett wants Norv. Jerry wants Norv. Norv wants to come, but only on the condition that Romo not be the passing game coordinator in the meetings. Garrett is on board. Jerry balks, saying that part of Romo's contract gives him the right - or perhaps the obligation - to be involved with that. Could be a serious deal breaker for Norv, and cause significant friction between Garrett and Jerry.

All mere speculation of course.

I think norv sucks. See his last few years in SD. Rivers is playing MUCH better without norv. Can we not find a young OC with an innovative offense that is qb friendly?
unfortunately norv makes the most sense if loser Garrett stays. Marinelli promotion is the only positive I get out of this. If these are the only moves that are made this offseason coaching staff wise, I expect another .500 season or worse. A waste of a season.
It will be another failure, we will look back and say "damn we should've cleaned house and rebuilt." we will just prolong the inevitable. So it will take even longer to become contenders.

I love Norv as an offensive coordinator but I'd be too afraid he'd be our next head coach.

Agreed. We have to get away from the guys Jerry trusts, or who make Jerry comfortable. Stop going back to the past. The best times this franchise has had in the last 20 years is when Jerry wasn't comfortable and didn't have his cronies running the show.

I want someone without a past connection who won't just lay down for Jerry. So, not Norv.

To you and TVMan- some very enjoyable debating for me to read and ponder from you guys about this.
Good points on both sides.

Double Wing too...

Thank you.

Fisher says that sometime around the bye week, Garrett went to Jerry and asked permission (yes asked permission) to have play calling duties back. Jerry said no but they agreed to some type of sharing of the play calling duties.

Not sure what is more pathetic about this, the notion of Garrett going to Jerreh like a child tattling on his sibling or the fact Ginger doesn't know what color the jar is that Jerreh keeps his balls in - the head coach should decide who calls what not the ********* GM.

I hate Jerry SO much...

It'll never happen, so may as well keep Jason Garrett. Nothing will change with a new HC puppet.

You don't know that! Stop it. People that live in crystal balls should just have a Happy New Year. That goes for you.
