Dawg, I don't see McNeil getting that job.

Like I said in an earlier post, I think they would like to have Briles (but I'm not sure he'll leave Baylor), but could turn to Sonny Dykes. In Tech's thinking, the administration may think they can have Leach's offense and Spike's personality if they hire Sonny. The best of both of them. Not sure I buy that, but that may be what they're thinking.

And Cowpoke, I only saw one player come to Adam's defense on that show ... it was a DT (Perry).

I see a lot more saying the guy was a lazy punk.

But I'm sure Leach has some enemies there (not just the admin). Some of the players no doubt got cross with him.

My bad. I didn't listen that closely, but I do recall it was 1 DB and 1 C.

The C basically said many players were glad he was gone and Leach's actions were uncalled for.

Wow, maybe I'm giving Leach more credit than he deserves. I knew he was surly, but I kind of liked his unorthadox ways.

thanks for the info

My money is on him or going the cheap route and keeping Papa Bear Ruffin Mcneill as coach.

If anybody took the time to read all that, I tip my cap.

Good stuff, it's really sickening, especially after attending Tech from 84-88 when they were AWFUL and seeing the program come so far.

I don't know where you were when Jimmy Johnson got fired by Jerry, but what you feel today is very similar to what it felt like when Jimmy had to go.

It feels so similar because it all seems so unnecessary and the result of egos clashing, it's infuriating to see a few people ruin something that seemed to be going so well.

Just because they are the same style of coach, doesn't mean it will equal success.

Briles is a good name, but I would feel bad for Robert.
June is a great coach, Tech would benefit by hiring him.

I doubt he leaves SMU so soon, though.

Update, just spoke with one of the trainers on the team on facebook, and she collaborates that James was a "cry baby".

And chief, I agree, briles probably won't come here. And I don't think I want a new dikes era. If it's not going to be ruffin, just start fresh. Someone with some energy. That's why briles, or sumlin would be a great fit.

Maybe they can lure Zach Thomas to the coaching staff.

Here is a Youtube video that shows the now "infamous" shed.

LOL, if this report is true, this is so absurd. This has got to be one of the most ridiculous dramas in the history of college football.

The wussification of America soldiers onward....

I guess I'm getting old because I'm recalling stories of what it was like when I grew up, so here's a funny one.......

When I played football in junior high, they made us work out in the offseason in the gym and we had to do an exercise called "six-inches" (you lay on your back and hold both of your feet above the ground by 6 to 12 inches).

Anyway, if you let your feet touch the floor and got caught by the coaches, you had to go up to the middle of the gym in front of everybody and get "licks". "Licks" are where you get smacked in the butt with a 3 foot long wooden paddle about an inch thick and the coaches didn't mess around.

On top of that, the coaches would make us make the paddles in wood shop class and some demented kids found out if you drilled holes in the paddle, it would make the "licks" sting that much worse.

My junior high was a scary place sometimes, but I think it toughened me up for life.

One of the coaches was so notorious that a couple of students wrote a screenplay about their experience with the coach and school. It was turned into the movie Mr. Woodcock (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419984/)

Before I knew it was written about my school and coach, I was watching the movie and started getting cold sweats thinking everything felt too familiar and then I found out at a reunion that it was in fact based on my school and coach.

Those coaches might be in prison today for some of the stuff they pulled.

Physically punishing a student may be crossing the line (paddling) but making them run laps or extra exercises is another thing. Some coaches cross the line and I agree it should be stopped but this "shed" story is crazy. From the first reports I heard, the picture i made in my mind is totally different from what it is today. I was envisioning cramped spaces, a dirty old scary room or something. Then it turned out to be one of the media rooms, lol.

Like I said, don't be fooled into thinking this is why he was fired.

a trainer on facebook? Come on man.

Player reactions:

Starting Center Shawn Byrnes on Leach: “He didnt understand how to deal with people. … Everyone is excited about this to be honest. … Adam James took a stand. How could punish a kid for having a concussion? What could that possibly accomplish?”

Texas Tech defensive lineman Chris Perry on Leach’s firing today and the coach’s treatment of Adam James: “I have no complaints about this decision. (Leach) put Adam in a shed like an animal. Like an animal in a cage. … That was bull. … You call the players. We practiced hard this week. We have our pep back now. We had less stress this week. You know why? Because he’s (Leach) gone.”

Texas Tech defensive back Taylor Charbonnet on Leach’s treatment of teammate Adam James: “I didn’t like it at all. I didn’t agree with it. I don’t know why Leach did that.”

Dawgs, I totally believe you. What a coincidence that Leach was owed almost a million dollars in a couple days.

And I just saw Craig James on ESPN, boohooing about what a hardship this had been on the family and how they never asked for any of this. I thought he was going to tear up, busted-televangelist style.

What a joke. Have fun back in mediocrity, Tech.

Player reporting concussion and being made an example of is not a 'you need to toughen up' kind of situation. This is extremely serious in today's age and has serious health consequences.

The actions of Leach are indefensible. Not only was the health of a kid in jeopardy, but his actions caused negative press and thereby a negative reputation of the program. If he remained as coach this could have affected recruiting. That is reason enough to justify firing him. I am sure there was confirmation by his staff or players that he did make the call - otherwise he would have never been suspended in the first place. The school could have the right to terminate Leach just because of negative press affecting recruiting.

You don't want to commit a crime when coaching. You don't want to physically hit someone to teach a lesson. You don't want to excessively run people too much in 100+ degrees that someone dies of dehydration. You don't want to detain someone in a room against their will for reporting a medical problem. The only difference between what Leach did and kidnapping is that Leach wasn't asking his parents for $.

You know I heard people employed by Texas Tech as coaches or PR saying 'he was a cry baby', 'he was lazy', and even 'he doesn't respect coaches'. Which one is it exactly? Is he an ego, is he a no good bum, is he shooting lightning from his eyes and fireballs from his ars? If he was so bad, why was he on the team? This is typical behavior that occurs when someone whistle-blows. The coaches/PR staff are protecting their image and reputation by tarnishing the image of the 'victim', and to me, this is worse than the original crime.

I know people bring out the 'Oh America become so wussified - when i was a kid they spanked me with a ruler', but that's easy to say behind the mask of your anonymity. Say that in a public place and see how wussified America is. (Don't really say it in a public place cause you will get your *** kicked)

Edit: I just read the player reaction to adam. Glad his teammates stood up for him for whistleblowing. Also the boy did his homework and took video evidence with his phone lol.
