The missing ingredient for us to win the Super Bowl is currently an effective pass rush. We have been getting by without it, but let's all agree we aren't very good at getting to and sacking the QB. It might be the difference between winning the super bowl and an early exit in the playoffs.

What are the chances that Jerry trades for a stud pass rusher to put us over the top? If there was a team like Cleveland, or another bottom dweller that had a stud pass rusher, would you give up a 1st or 2nd round pick to get us over the top, assuming of course that we could sign the player to a longer term deal?

I would be ok, with us waiting and standing pat and trying to manufacture a pass rush with what we have. I was just wondering what you guys think about it.

Better question. Would you trade Romo for a stud pass rusher right now.

Same problem we had in '14.

Personally, I wouldn't give up a 1st or 2nd just to get a pass rusher -- for two reasons.

1. We obviously lose that draft pick.
2. We would have to end up paying the pass rusher way too much $$. Way more money than if we just use that draft pick on a legit pass rusher.

This is a young team, overall. So amazingly, we have an open window of opportunity again. So I'd rather just be smart and continue building through the draft and not get ourselves in a cap bind again.

We can win without the pass rush.

Our run game is our pass rush. Our run game is our everything. It is our Denver defense. It is our Cam Newton. It is our Tom Brady.

Defense wins championships.. WEll our run game is our defense.

It's still a lot better than 14.

Our weakness on this defense is Linebackers. That is the only edge that 14 defense had on us.

Our secondary is better and our DL is much better than 14.

My guess is they probably stand pat this yr and pour resources into fixing the defense in the offseason.
I think the front office is holding out hope for a firing nerve, a rehabbed addict, and maybe even rotunda McClain as this yrs boost.

There is no missing ingredient or any dominant team in the NFL. It is there for the taking. This ain't 1992.

Exactly.. Every team has a hole.

What do you do that seperates you.

A lot of teams have a defense or a super efficient passing game..

Well Dallas imposes their will on the ground, keeps the football, and is efficient passing.

Everyone is hyping the Vikings.. Well their OLine is one of the worst in football. You can do this with every team.

Any team that totes Sam Bradford as their savior will come crashing down to earth. I still think Green Bay rights the ship and wins that division. I am salivating at the matchup against the Vikings.

Yep...

Bradford is super injury prone and he is playing behind a bad OL. If he goes down that team is finished.

It's virtually impossible to trade Romo.

You would have to cut a dozen guys in order to fit the cap charge from trading the guy.

Amen. Nowadays teams succeed by players executing their assignments consistently, coaches managing games efficiently, injuries not being detrimental and some luck.

At this point of the season you can't do much more than that.

Another team simply isn't going to hand over their top-flight pass-rushing DE.

This team will have to win with what they have.

Absolutely! All teams have holes. I also think Marinelli realizes that he's having better results by dropping guys in coverage instead of sending the house after the QB. If it works, then we stick with that.

I am not convinced teams are going to shop an elite pass rusher. And I don't think there is anyone in Cleveland that would fit the bill.

The other weakness is the lack of the deep ball. Maybe that gets fixed with Dez returning but defenses will start playing tighter zones if they don't fear the long ball. Dak isn't bad at throwing them.....just a disconnect thus far between him and the receivers....he either throws a good pass and the receiver drops it or he throws a bad pass and receiver can't come down with it.
