The other weakness is the lack of the deep ball. Maybe that gets fixed with Dez returning but defenses will start playing tighter zones if they don't fear the long ball. Dak isn't bad at throwing them.....just a disconnect thus far between him and the receivers....he either throws a good pass and the receiver drops it or he throws a bad pass and receiver can't come down with it.
There's always a "disconnect" when any and every catchable pass is dropped by a receiver regardless of who threw the pass in the first place.

An average pass rush would be enough. That's how close this team is right now. I don't get this whole deep ball talk. There's no need to throw 40+ yards every other play. The offense is moving the ball at will on some good defenses. Doesn't matter how they do it, it's getting done.

Teams dont just trade away Monster pass rushers. These guys are unicorns.

You can't name 10 great pass rushers in the league. (Not OLBers in 3-4).

The 2006 Indianapolis Colts won a SB while only notching 24 sacks.

The 2009 New Orleans Saints won a SB while getting 35 sacks.

The current Cowboy team is on a pace for 29 sacks.
Any team that's ever won a SB had a top 12 defense during the regular season, or one that played to that level (<20 pts /game) in the playoffs.

Right now, we're 8th in points allowed per game, and 16th in points allowed per drive.

How is Clowney doing in Houston? Maybe these guys can part with him for Lael Collins. What you all say?

We can win without the pass rush.

Our run game is our pass rush. Our run game is our everything. It is our Denver defense. It is our Cam Newton. It is our Tom Brady.

Defense wins championships.. WEll our run game is our defense.

Frankly, if Rodgers was what we usually expected from him instead of Quincy Carter, the lack of pass rush would have been evident and the results could have been way different.

This team needs at least one stud and maybe two.

Is Jaylon Smith the missing ingredient?

For the pass rush?

Not really. Marinelli doesn't blitz a lot so I am not sure Smith would have any real impact in getting after the QB.

I am not convinced teams are going to shop an elite pass rusher. And I don't think there is anyone in Cleveland that would fit the bill.

You have to hope a team that is basically out of it come the trade deadline, would be willing to trade a pending free agent.

http://overthecap.com/free-agency/

For example, the Cardinals traded for Chandler Jones this off-season, with hopes to re-sign him to a long-term deal and help contend for a title. If they continue to falter and the FO isn't feeling they are going to be able to re-sign Jones, maybe they would deal him.

More realistically, maybe you can pick up a Trent Cole (type) for a Day 3 pick.

The good thing about pass-rushers is that it is one of the easiest positions (less responsibility) to coach, learn, and play. So you can get someone late and not have to worry about them not knowing your scheme.

Myles Garret is out of reach, top three for sure. Derek Barnett might be possible though.
