I'm sure many did buy tickets to his concert it does not change the fact that he was not getting air play here in the US he pretty much dropped after his trial.

Also the main reason he was doing this tour was he was a half billion in debt.

Elvis still had money.

Am I the only one that thought the tour would never actually happen?

Well then you've clearly not been watching any of the 144 movies that IMDB reports having have used an Elvis song in the last ten years (where Elvis was the performer, mind you.....this doesn't even include the movies that other performers have used Elvis' songs).

Hell, I just heard an Elvis song on a commercial not ten minutes ago...a hotel or travelocity commercial IIRC.

The people denying Elvis' impact are clueless.

Elvis has been dead 32 years people...and his presence is still very much alive. Just because many of you aren't familiar with it, doesn't mean it's not there.
That is the #1 reason why this is so humorous to me.

I live in a bubble. I've never heard of Elvis or the Beatles. I have never heard a song in a movie and asked who sang it. Ever...

I wonder how many Michael Jackson references we will hear when he has been dead 32 years....

Probably a significant amount.....but I'd be willing to bet a large percentage of them will be about his relationship with children, rather than about his music. Kind of sad, really...but you reap what you sow.

Hostile, why you can't you understand, we have heard of Elvis and I said I heard of the Beatles, but if someone played a Beatles song on the radio I would not be able to give you a NAME of the song.

It is like name that tune and I wouldn't be able to name the tune, I would know it was the Beatles but I couldn't give you anymore then that.

Why is that so hard to understand??

...and is still earning it. BIG TIME.

Elvis (dead) earned $52 million in 2008. Just to get an idea of how that compares:

Highest Earning (living) Musicians of 2008:

1. The Police ($115 million)
2. Beyonce Knowles ($80 million)
3. Toby Keith ($48 million)
4. Justin Timberlake ($44 million)
5. Madonna ($40 million)
6. Celine Dion ($40 million)
7. Rascal Flatts ($40 million)
8. Van Halen ($35 million)
9. Genesis ($31 million)
10. Gwen Stefani ($27 million)

People still dress up and imamate Elvis I don't think many are out there imitating Jackson unless you count Cory Feldman and even he stopped doing it. :laugh2:

It is beyond amusing to me Avaj. The longer this thread gets the funnier it is. Give me 30 years and I'll apologize to everyone I have mocked in this thread. In 30 years if people are saying they couldn't tell me the name of a Michael Jackson song I will eat my words, shave my head, and donate every last penny in my piggy bank to Neverland Ranch.

I am sorry to anyone who is offended by my amusement, but this stuff is getting more and more ridiculous.

Wait, I just got a phone call from my niece. She asked if John F. Kennedy was one of the Beatles. Silly girl, he wrote that song you can't remember the name of.

That's pretty telling.

Out of curiosity, where is MJ on that list?

His songs don't make it in many movies. Maybe the next Halloween movie will play "I'm Bad" instead of the Halloween theme. :laugh2:

He will be in 2009 and beyond Cajun. The guy is an icon and in death he will again be a legend.

Yeah, it was sarcasm.:D

But will he be on it 3 decades AFTER his death???

I don't know. They (and several others) only listed the top 10. Though there are a few conflicting sources, but several list that top 10.

These "estimates" are always just that -- guesses. Here's another list with completely different numbers for 2008 (note that they're in British pounds, but after conversion, they're obviously still different):

http://living.oneindia.in/insync/2009/madonna-bon-jovi-200209.html

No one knows what any of these people make because it's not public information. I'd be willing to bet quite a bit of money that Michael Jackson had gross taxable income (i.e., before deductions and credits) of more than $50 million in 2008.

And as far as the numbers for these other artists in 2008, these would be just the number assigned to how much the artist made -- not including how much record companies and other third parties made as well. Elvis' number, whatever it may be, would include all those lumped in together. So, the idea that a dead Elvis is making more than these other living artists is absurd.

I'd actually be very surprised if MJ didn't top that list for the next year and a half or so. I'd expect a pretty steep decline after that, however.

I think he probably will be. I'll be shocked if he isn't.
