It shouldn't insult your intelligence just like seeing some of your posts doesn't insult mine. :)

Where I see the disconnect is that people don't get that you can have heard something on the radio, see it performed on TV, and not know the name of it...even years later. That's not an impossible feat. There's one song by the Labelles that I've heard a ton of times, and absolutely love, but I don't know the name of the song. It makes me mad that I don't know it.

Mick isn't even saying he doesn't know the basics of Elvis, just that his knowledge of MJ far outweighs Elvis. That said, I think he even said way back on the first page that Elvis would be remembered as more iconic.

It really comes down to knowledge and awareness. I know of a couple Elvis songs, but only because I saw him sing them in a movie, but that's pretty much the extent of it.

I still think he's being an obtuse exaggerator:D

I hope it's a gag. No woman could be that cold, and no expectant father could be that "understanding."

let me ask you this, mickelback

if I can name more Michael Jackson songs than Elvis songs, does that make Michael more iconic?

Nope. Just means you are more familar with Michael Jackson.

As WG stated, it is really odd that people get so offended when they learn Elvis wasn't the center of everyone's universe.

I simply stated that I can't name any of Elvis' songs. I have seen the guy on TV but I wouldn't know any of the song names.

How that gets translated into "I don't know who Elvis is" or "I have never heard of Graceland" is beyond me.

And as Bob and I both stated, we aren't offended. I personally am amused.

Ironically, last night I was watching Men In Black.

Kay: Do you remember the little red button?
Jay: [warily] Yeah...
Kay: Push the little red button.
[Jay pushes it]
Kay: And you may want to put on a seatbelt.
[the car flips upside down, sprouts rocket engines and begins riding along the top of the tunnel. Kay is safe because he has a seatbelt on, but Jay is flipped over]
Jay: Kay! Kayyyyy!
Kay: You know, you're much too tense. You're a young man. You need to relax, learn to take some joy in your work. Do you like music?
[He pops in a tape of Elvis Presley's "The Promised Land," which begins playing]
Kay: That's better.
[He starts mouthing along to the song]
Jay: Aw ****. Aw damn.
[He notices that they're about to run straight over a traffic sign]
Jay: Kay! Kay!
[Kay swerves just in time and avoids the sign]
Jay: You do know Elvis is dead, right?
Kay: No, Elvis is not dead. He just went home.

Maybe that's why no one remembers Elvis in here. They got flashed with the little red light Kay used.

I've seen that movie a dozen times. I love both actors very much, but even this reference went over my head until now. I know about Elvis, et al, but if you asked me if they were playing an Elvis song in that car, I would have given you a blank stare.

Some folks just can't understand the difference between "People knowing who Elvis is" vs "Not knowing much about him especially not being able to name any of his songs".

Bob Dylan is one of the most famous men in the world, but I couldn't name one song the guy has written/sung.

It's the red light thingy. Your memory has been erased.

:wink2:

See what I mean about hundreds of references to Elvis in TV, Movies, etc.? It was ironic that I happened to see that while goofing around in this thread. It was actually on exactly when I was posting the Michael Jackson video from Super Bowl XXVII. I had a good laugh at that.

Segue time...

My wife was pregnant with our 1st daughter and due around the time of the Super Bowl. It had been 15 years since Dallas had last won a Super Bowl. 14 years since they had last played in one. I kept begging the baby, "not during the Super Bowl. Not during the Super Bowl."

At halftime she started kicking my wife to the beat of Michael Jackson's music. I was in panic mode that she was coming and the game was not over. She was born 10 days later. One of the first things I said to my daughter was, "thank you for letting me watch the Super Bowl."

True story.

Elvis has been seen around Memphis numerous times since his "death". :laugh2:

If you like really really really bad and cheesy horror movies check out one called Bubba Ho Tep. After watching that I just gave my wife a look like this is grounds for divorce. :laugh2:

Picture it Sicily. The game show "Who Wants a Million Lira."

The 100 Lira question is "Who is famous for the song Hound Dog?"

A. Michael Jackson
B. Elvis Presley
C. Bob Dylan
D. Johnny Cash

Guisepe had to use a lifeline and he asked to call a friend. He calls me. I said, "what are you kidding? You never saw "Forrest Gump?"
