Garrett was a poor coach.
Period.
I am NOT a fan.

But in Garretts last 64 games he went 40-24, won the NFCE 2X and 1-2 in the playoffs.

McCarthy in his last 64 games has gone 40-24, in contention for 2nd NFCE title and 1-2 in the playoffs.

I don't know about the rest of you but I expected more than Clapper level results when McCarthy was hired.

Let's hope he hasn't maxed out at the Garrett standard.
I'm not convinced McCarthy's end results will be that much better.

Maybe the penalties are not on the coaches. Maybe they are on the players. After all, doesn't it seem like the same players making the same kinds of mistakes? Sam Williams is the new Kelvin Joseph on special teams.

Tyler Smith is second in the league with 5 Holding penalties. Dante Fowler is 1st with 4 offsides penalties. Fowler plays limited downs so his might be more significant.

I do think that the Cowboys get called tighter than some of their opponents. The holding calls for example. Other teams who play the Cowboys seem to get away with a lot more than Dallas does. Especially when it comes to holding. The Bills did a lot of holding and were not called Sunday but Tyler Smith got a critical holding penalty that looked very ordinary. The refs are bad for everyone but it is still a problem.

The HC needs to go? man how quickly we forget how 1 injury means the season is over, how if we have a winning record one year we know we will be 500 the next...The HC is fine, some of these players need to STOP making mental mistakes..I'm pretty sure every coach on the field has told them this..

He’s right. Buffalo came out to play physical and the cowboys wanted no part of it.
I'm not sure that's true. dallas was chippy as hell, it just doesn't ring out the same when you're losing. they weren't soft against the seahawks. they got beat. the rest is just gossip

It’s hard to coach dumb players

Does anyone seriously think there is a coach out there to negate the penalties under this culture? Guess what? NE has a lot of dumb penalties too, BB wouldn’t fix it in Dallas either.
I'm actually really curious what the penalty issue is. I'd try and do a deep dive, but wouldn't even know where to start, or what to look for. Obviously having the same issue for three years, there's *SOMETHING* there, I just wonder what. Can't just be coaching, because there's no way they haven't addressed it or tried to mitigate it. Maybe it's the aggressive / fast nature they play with? Wonder if there's any articles out there. I'm going to take a look

No idea either but dumb penalties were a problem in Dallas well before MM arrived. It doesn’t help when there are more incompetent refs too. I can say with certainty that Philly should be called for false starts and offensive holding a lot more but refs usually ignore it. I saw six blatant false starts last night right in front of the ref.

Holding is a mess in the NFL, they even admitt they could call it on every play so there is no other way to put it other than its a judgment call. Look at our last game, the Bills ran the ball 49 times with 1 holding call, thats unheard of, now thats not why we lost but it just shows that the refs clearly decide if a hold is worth calling...

 I don't know what is funnier. That the OP thinks MM is making excuses to them or that they think they are in a position to demand any accountability whatsoever.

Garrett shouldn't be in the same sentence as McCarthy.

McCarthy won a Superbowl.... Garrett didn't even sniff one as a coach

I saw way too many missed tackles with lackluster effort. Not getting your nose into it and just trying a half hearted throw a shoulder out there to tackle was soft.

Great.

He won a SB a decade ago.

If he can’t get better results than Garrett than how important is that SB win with a Hall of Fane QB?

Well.... that same Hall of Fame quarterback couldn't get another superbowl win WITHOUT McCarthy.....

So again, Garrett's name should not be mentioned in the same breath as McCarthy's.

3 years ago and that playoff loss to SF MM preached that they will address the penalties, 3 years later they still lead the league in penalties. Last playoff loss he talked about playing with urgency on the road, they are now 3-4 with 3 losses by 20 plus points. Today he talks about this gap on the road as if we and more importantly players will now listen when it’s 3 years of the same mistakes. Sure MM’s teams beat bad teams by 30. If the plan is to win a SB we all know it won’t happen with this coach and certainly not this year with having to win 3 straight on the road to get there. If JJ is content with losing in the second round then keep the status quo.
No, YOU hang onto the same excuse and expect change none the less....and flash, blame your limited view on Jerry.

Quit following then or join a baby choir and cry in unison.

I think it's the persona that Dallas brings. Players come here for paychecks, period. Dallas needs to shed the "America's Team" persona. That starts with a real GM.
I like the America's Team logo.

It makes the other teams mad.

JJ is not going to fire MM. If he does, it would be like JJ admitting that he made a mistake in hiring MM in the first place.
you could be right.

Big Mike's contract is expiring after 2024?

He could just let him go, like Jason.

Of fire him, if we lose in the WC/DIv round again.

We are also looking at changes in the OL, RB, and QB in 2024.
