I don't want any conventional cover 2 cornerback. I want someone that can press and play man to man and is smart enough to play zone. I want Kiffin to walk away and a young new coach to come on staff to toss around new ideas.

You do realize Marinelli and Kiffin pretty much see things the same, right?

I am sure his business decisions will translate well to FS. All for the move.

I used to think that was well. However, he doesn't like to tackle. He does play better with the game in front of him though. He is really a ball hawk, just needs to bulk up and get a coach that can push his limits and give him no credit he doesn't deserve.

Yep, but I still see value in Marinelli and his ability to motivate. I think Kiffin's game is still too vanilla. This is why I want a young guy to come on and try new things. Will it happen, most likely not...but one can hope.

The ability to motivate is one thing. Seeing players and talent in the same systemic light is another.

I bet if you sat down and asked both coaches what they look for, you get pretty much the same answer.

He's better than Carr. Also, there is still potential. Carr is past whatever prime he briefly had.

I agree, hence we hope one leaves. We need new ideas. What we really need is a coach that can impose fear. I just don't know who is out there that can pull that off without being the head coach.

Not really. RW31 and Galloway are the most recent ones.

Neither could be compared with Claiborne not even close. RW31 was very good his first 4-5 seasons in Dallas making several pro bowls. He was terrific his rookie season leading the team in tackles including 3 forced fumbles and 5 int's. He looked every bit the part of a top 10 pick early on in his career. He had 19 int's and 9 forced fumbles during his 7 years in Dallas. He was great when he was able to play closer to the line of scrimmage but when the Cowboys started having serious issues in the secondary and he had to provide help he got toasted. He was a liability in coverage and when the NFL did away with the horse collar tackle which is known as the Roy Williams rule he ended up losing his confidence. He began trailing plays which resulted in a lot of horse collar tackles. His horse collar tackle on TO in 05 which caused TO to suffer a lower leg injury made the NFL put a stop to it. Once that rule came in it really affected his game and his play dropped off. As for Joey Galloway neither of the #1's the Cowboys gave up for him ended up being top 10 picks. The trade was made to pair him with Troy Aikman to give the Cowboys a deep threat but they only ended up playing one game together.

Once Aikman was released Galloway got stuck with a bad QB situation. He had to deal with the growing pains of Quincy Carter his rookie year along with Chad Hutchinson and several other stiffs who couldn't take advantage of his deep speed. He was a stretch the field type receiver and the Cowboys didn't have the QB or pass protection to get the ball down the field to him. It wasn't all bad with Galloway despite his QB situation he still had some very productive games for the Cowboys. In 01 he had 6 catches for 146 yards and a TD vs SF. In 02 he led the team in receiving and had three 100 yard games. He had 7 catches for 144 yards and 2 TD's vs JAX that season. Against Carolina that year he had an 80 yard TD. He was an excellent receiver whose talent couldn't be taken advantage of in Dallas. He was very productive with the Bucs after the Cowboys traded him for Keyshawn. Galloway had a career high of 1287 yards in 05 including 10 TD's with the Bucs. Galloway wasn't a bust the Cowboy teams he played for were a bust.

Not sure what you mean by "impose fear". I guess Darth Vader would work, but I am not sure he is ready to leave his movie gig.

Oh my lord, I just spit up water! LOL. I have to admit, you have wit...I'd settle for Darth Maul at this point. Fear is the thought that you don't know what could happen and so you do what you should each and every time. You shouldn't fumble, so you hold on to the ball. You know you shouldn't run bad routes, so you run smooth routes...at this point I know you get the point....you just need a coach that won't settle for the best. We don't have that. We have a coach that is smart, but makes excuses for those that aren't smart. This isn't parenthood, this is the NFL.

Move Mo Claiborne to FS. A lot of people thought that was gonna be his best position in the pros anyway. Try and salvage the draft choice. Because we have already seen he can't play CB.

I am intrigued by this idea...

It will be really difficult to find a CB that is really good at both man and zone. They do need to consider exactly what scheme they are going to use as their base, man or zone, and get a player that matches that scheme. I'm sure an elite guy like Revis could do either, but I don't know about guys like Flowers or the guy from GB.

I have a hard time seeing that work. A FS needs has make a lot of decisions, quickly. That does not seem to be something that Claiborne is good at.

If Claiborne could just line up and play 1 WR man-to-man, he would be decent; however, his problem is that teams started putting 2 WRs on his side and would play tricks with them and Claiborne often was not on the same page as the other CB. If they could somehow keep him on the side with 1 WR, then I think he would be better.

I see your point and have no retort.
I hope this team can salvage Clai. The guy had something at one point...

I thought they had taken the first step to resolve some of his emotional issues by making it clear that he was no longer a starter. Unfortunately, he got injured in the very next game. I think he has a sense of entitlement and just didn't study hard enough.

That's something I've expressed concern with as far back as last season that it appeared he simply was not a student of the game and had no interest in becoming one.
When you don't have elite athleticism and/or instincts on the field- then you aren't going to have a great career without the benefit of study.

And he is having a far cry from sniffing a great career as it is.

I wonder what his position coach preaches to him and how he implements his coaching techniques upon Mo...

He seems like a guy who needs someone to constantly be on him- pushing him to go that extra few miles yet walk that fine line between being productive and obnoxious about it.
Something I'm sure just about every NFL positional coach has no time to conduct on a single player who might not even respond, but I feel that may be the only way to unlock the potential buried deeper than the Oak Island treasure in this guy.

No, yes and maybe. Claiborn's salary is already guaranteed so he'll at least be brought back for TC. Carr may be back if he takes a big pay cut.
