Talent acquisition since 2010 has been very good.

Shocking that people still haven't recognized that fact.

It's funny when I still see our 2009 draft brought up.

Some guys just want to be unhappy *until* the wins are on the board. Personally, that takes way too much fun out of what's supposed to be a passtime, but it's clearly the case.

I suspect we'll be happy that the situation is finally being addressed,,,, what, were you born just 3 years ago?

I'm the world's most brilliant 3 year old. Don't be biased against young people.

Having said that...I respond with two thoughts...

A) what happened 3 years ago that is noteworthy? From an org chart point of view?

B) Our line got old and we had to replace multiple parts across the line all at once. That takes time. Having said that...the team has been focused on correcting the issue while still adding quality depth all across the offense.

Now where did I put my bottle...

This signing has elevated me from cautiously optimistic to giddy. If you think about all that has gone wrong the past few years and still how close we were to the playoffs a good oline could do wonders for Romo & Murray.

Just remember what happened the last time Romo had a good oline & running game.

God I just want this season to start now. PLEASSEEEE keep the boys healthy this training camp and year.

At least we have some decent depth there, we have nothing behind Free and Smith other than Parnell.

Love this signing, I'm glad they are trying to solidify the interior of the line and it has the potential to be a good, solid offensive line.

so fine.

romo goes down.

dez goes down.

just seems to be an anger shift, not a validation of a direction.

He's 33, and word was he wanted 3-4 mill/season. Teams most likely wanted to see what they had before giving that kind of (guaranteed) money to someone that age. Being the front end of Butt Fumble probably didn't help.

Don't know the numbers but I would give him 2 years @ 3 Million per..Why? Because we only have to get better in two places. OL and S. Ok a little depth on the DL wouldn't hurt either, but this is a good start and a move in the right direction..

I'd be a lot happier at OT, too, if we had one more young, high-potential player there who might be able to give us something in a pinch. Or if one of our OGs were able to slide out to RT if we really needed it, since our top three guys can all play either OT position.

I know people have forgotten about Ryan Cook, but he's probably our most versatile backup. He's played every position but LT. In my opinion, since the starting lineup is likely in order, we need versatile backups. Parnell can play both tackle positions. Cook can play G, C and RT. Bern can play G and C. Killer can play G and C. Even Arkin can play G and C. Livings is purely a LG and Costa is purely a C. Those guys are taking up space as backups.

ray donaldson was a versatile backup.

I agree, but I think this signals the end of Arkin. Just like last year, he got lots of reps with the first team in TC before the FO decided to bring in a viable replacement. Its time to move on from Arkin instead of taking up a spot on the roster, when he won't ever see the playing field.

Yeah, Cook's a guy who's built like a RT and has experience there. Mentally, I already have him off the roster, but that might not actually be the case. I'd still like an upgrade to someone like Cook there, though. Maybe we find someone like we did with Alex Barron a few years back, only, he doesn't suck, and we trade a bottom-roster RB or LB for him in what's basically a need:need swap to avoid the FA claim.

Yea, it might be the end of Arkin. But I think a guy like Costa has little value when he's strictly a backup center. Bern is valuable because he can be a swing guard and center. Kowalski can be the same and he can have another year to develop. Livings has little value now. It would also be good to get one more guy who can step in at tackle.

cook is a sidetrack. i can't think of a single player on our OL now who would match up with him, but some jerkey nugget pulls a name out of their *** and wa-la -

Ah yes, that stellar(barely serviceable) line that got its arse kicked annually by the real contenders suddenly got old all at once.

I think it's unlikely, but Costa *could* be expendable now if the team thinks Kowalski or Bernadeau would make a serviceable C in the event of a long-term injury. Was it Denver who just lost theirs for the season? I don't think the team would cut Costa outright, but maybe they trade him for a player (backup OT?) or a late pick (the way we traded for Cook when our C went down last offseason) as we work our way towards the end of camp.

I heard on NFL radio yesterday when they were at Commanders camp, that they have too many RT's in camp and will probably cut a good, solid veteran come cut down, probably Jeremy Trueblood, who is better than anything we have as a back up. And no I don't have a link, I heard on the radio!

Someone like that would be perfect. You can't expect too much, but a guy that could hold down a position in a real crunch and who's got some starts under his belt would make me feel a lot better. We've been lucky at OT on the injury front the last two years, but they can go down in bunches pretty quickly once the season starts (knocks on wood). I haven't seen or heard anything I like at all from Weems/Coughman yet.

Personally, I think what you see this camp will be the best of what you get from Costa, Killer or Arkin. So you let them battle it out, best player stays on the roster regardless. If Killer, Costa or Arkin cant preform better than either Bernadeau, Livings or Cook then you let them go. They've had every opportunity to seize the job for the past couple of years and haven't done so.

Not all at once. Our OTs collapsing is what cost us the 2009 season. Then it contributed to Wade losing his gig in 2010. But it takes time to rebuild your OT depth in the NFL. Especially when you're trying to find 2 Safeties and 2 CBs and a new C and two new OGs in the process. All while you're struggling up against the cap because the signings you made for the run in 2006/2007 didn't quite pay off as you'd hoped.

It did. It was ignored and then got old all at once. The entire thing had to be torn down and rebuilt.

It's like you want an apology from Jerry for the neglect that happened 7 years ago.

I mean....wow.

No you have it wrong. It's easy to turn over the entire offensive line while filling other holes all in a single offseason. Teams do it all the time. Just ask Green Bay.
