Good morning Pops and fellow Cowboy family.
Phil, so sorry to hear of your pup. (I call all dogs pups!). I've been thru it a number of times and know your loss and pain. At times like this, I've come to realize a couple of things about our special relationship with our 4-legged family members:
What would my pups life have been like if they weren't part of our "pack"? Would their life have been better? I highly doubt it!
I've finally accepted the fact that we don't own these wonderful companions. They are truly "on loan" to us, and we will be judged by the type of life we provide for them. I feel you will be judged very favorably!
I've found that, although I was like you and chose to wait awhile to ease the pain, I couldn't refuse another "friend" a wonderful life, and jumped back into it soon after. I also soon realized that the decision to wait longer was not predicated so much on my grief, but on the feeling that I was disrespecting my lost friend by finding a replacement so soon afterwards. That is the furtherest from the truth!! All dogs are different, and having a new one doesn't erase the memory of previous pets, but rather enhances them.
My thoughts are with you.
