Don't know if I'll ever bother to get another dog, because I find it hard to believe I'll ever get one again as smart, noble, and loyal as my buddy. He was one of a kind. People were always complimenting how handsome he was (too bad I was married most of the years I had him, great conversation starter) and kids could tell how much he wanted to play with them. RIP buddy.

Sorry for your loss, @VaqueroTD . Pets are not just members of your family, they are a source of comfort, emotional support and loyalty.

We lost our cat, Cookie, this past Christmas. She was almost 19 and had moved with us to Australia, Canada and, finally, Montana. I was never a "cat" person but watched in amazement at the bond between Cookie and my wife. Cookie was special.

I'm sorry to hear about your losing Cookie. Was Cookie the one that bowed up at a bear to protect you?

Oh well, bye Cookie. So, who is the brave kitty that deserves a monument erected in their honor? The one that stared death in the eye and threw themself in the path of danger to protect you. Our four-legged hero.
 
Speaking of bears... yesterday evening we were headed outside for a short walk. About 50 yards from our front door, a momma grizzly and her two cubs came out the trees and started digging around an old tree stump. They seemed totally oblivious to me on the front porch

This continued for about 30 minutes until my wife said, "I left the garage door open". Normally, this is not a problem except we had several large bags of plant seeds on the garage floor. The last thing we needed was a garage full if bears.

So, out comes the air horn. It is really amazing how fast several hundred pounds of bear can move when startled. Anyway, they disappeared into the woods.

What about the cats? Glad you asked. From the safety of the living room, they watched and waited while making that crazy chattering noise cats make. Our 2 tuxedo cats are the last line of home defense.

I've seen several videos of housecats chasing off bears. Craziest thing. A small 5-12 pound cat chasing off a 290-600 bound carnivore. Talk about a flex.

Talk about attitudes and lack of common sense. I saw a video of a Pomeranian chasing a bear out of his house, yard and for good measure, his zip code, At the end of the video, his owner is loving on him and saying "Don't let those bears hurt you."

Kinda chipper today, as my PSA levels have been undetectable for 2 years, and my doc has decided to take me off the chemo meds. Might last 6 months, might last 3 years... might be permanent (unlikely), but any time away from the hot flashes, profuse sweating every time I burn a calorie, brittle nails, etc., will be awesome.

He says it'll be at least 3 months before I start reaping the benefits, but hey, it's something to look forward to!

Congratulations, @Runwildboys ... didn't know you were on chemo meds, so I obviously missed something. Sorry. Glad to hear your doing better.

Thank you for letting us know, Runny. I'd have pestered you for updates if I'd known, but you knew that. My hope is your PSA levels behave themselves. Just remember you are important to us.
