Mort: Cowboys expect to trade Romo to Texans or Broncos ***MERGE***

I don't have time to read this entire thread, but can someone explain to me what this means financially with the salary cap? If he's traded don't we lose a larger amount than a release?

Also, I think it's time to change my profile picture.

I wish I was that confident in what they can get. Both teams have said "not pursuing unless cut" and my worst case scenario is Jerry wanting to lead the news day going into the weekend so he's chilling out for the day
Yep that's what it is jerry is holding Romo hostage do he can release him later tonight

That Stephen Jones probably is asking for a high draft pick. If it wasn't a high pick it would be a done deal by now.
I could see that. We dont have enough leverage to get a high pick. We can get a solid pick. A 3rd or 4th. But I don't think we have the leverage or interest to get a 1st or 2nd

Looks like Cousins signing his tender. Does that mean SF in play? I feel like that's where Cutler ends up
Shanny 2 loves Cousins, Washington just fired their GM (only real Cousins fan left), and Cousibes is very unhappy with Washington.

Who knows

He was supposed to be released by now. The fact that he isn't means to me we'll get something for him. Whether that is a premium pick or player remains to be seen. But negotiations are happening as we sit here...

Jerry's been busy tonight. On Line 1, he's negotiating for draft picks from the Texans.

On Line 3, he's laying the groundwork for getting their team out of the state.

John Elway is on hold, Line 2.

If the two parties are even negotiating at all yet (maybe yes, maybe no) the Jones family will certainly start high like a 1st...and Houston will start low, like a 6.

They were screwed before they cut Osweiler, if that was your point. Cutting him didn't change all that much. Savage outplayed him late in the season anyway, right?

I am saying that Romo is the only QB out there that makes them a contender in the AFC. They are not beating the Pats, Steelers, Raiders, and probably throw the Chiefs in there also with freaking Savage, Weeden, Cutler, or some rookie at QB.

That is why I said its Romo or bust for Houston..............I would think they would give up a 4th or 5th rounder for a chance to be a contender, especially when they just gave Cleveland a freaking 2nd rounder just to take Osweiler off their hands.

I love Romo. But they aren't getting anything better than a 3.
Market determines value. How valuable is a Super Bowl vs a first round pick? Houston and Denver ate in the market for a legitimate QB for a legitimate run at a Super Bowl. One will flinch.

Houston has to budge here. They dont make a trade, Romo will sign with Denver if released. And Houston just wasted a 2018 second to get rid of a contract they didnt have to without Romo.

Todays winner =Cleveland. Pretty much no matter how this plays out
Why would Dallas release him when Denver and Houston will not win anything with the qbs that they have? There are not enough qbs to go around.

Just think of the fans at Denver or Houston when the other team gets Romo and they are stuck with the bums that they have.

I definitely agree with that. That's been pretty obvious ever since it came out that we would be letting go of him. Why they wouldn't just cough up a pick to lock him up makes no sense. Of course Tony Romo has trade value in free agency. He's worth more than a 4th or 5th, too.

The right price for Tony is a 2nd. I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. And I don't get why the media has suggested all along there's unlikely to be a market for him. It makes no sense.

If Dwayne Allen scored a 4th, Romo has to get a 3rd min. Dallas should have played hard ball right from the top. This is business, not tiddly winks.

If no one offers a trade, they will release him. They arent holding on to him

I wonder if we won't see a conditional aspect to a trade (if one even happens).

For example:
Cowboys get a 4th round pick in 2017.
If Romo plays 14 or more games...Boys also get a third in 2018.

It would make sense because there is such a huge gap in the floor and ceiling of what Romo will be able to do with his health.

Maybe so. But don't forget: Jimmy G might look attractive as well.

Where Dallas screwed the pooch was the touchy/feely " Do Right By Romo" crap the press got a hold of. If Houston and Denver thought Cleveland, Chicago, NY, and SF were in play they would be more willing to trade

Maybe because he's 37 and keeps getting major injuries?

I would have been happy with a 3rd.then it came out about the release and I was bitter with how they neutered his value last year. Now it seems obvious to me that they should be able to get something of real value. At this point I don't see how a first round pick swap and a 2nd doesn't make sense for Houston/Denver and us.

I'm just apprehensive and want to see it done.
