Could this have played out how Dallas wanted?

Leaked that Romo is getting released and Denver already has contract figures in place and will likely sign there.
Catches Houston off guard, figures he wanted to stay close to home

Dallas then changes mind and now wants a trade - heres your chance Houston

Houston clears the trash off the books, which just happens to be a QB by trading a 2nd rounder for cap space

Now pit Denver vs Houston

I don't think there is any doubt that the Houston trade is tied to the Romo bidding war. By clearing the cap space they did two things: 1. went all in on Romo and 2. Every other team knows they are in the bidding proces. I don't believe either one helped them in the negotiation phase. They really misplayed their hand.

Romo has not had chronic back problems. He's been able to play at a high level and that's difficult to do if not impossible with a chronically bad back. My guess is you and I have differing definitions. Most people have an episode of significant back pain/dysfunction at least once in their life. Are they able to move past that and regain all or most of their mobility and ability to function is the question and the answer for him is yes.

Broken bones gain a good amount of their original strength quickly if they heal properly which is generally the case. A malunion or non-union of the fracture site is problematic.

Romo doesn't have a significant recurrent or chronic problem but still his history of injuries will make some anxious despite the facts. He's only got 2-4 years left unless he's way off the Bell Curve.

I was listening to 105.5 and they had Texans beat writer John Mcclain (who is a real jack wagon) on. He was trying to explain how the Texans didnt need Romo and either way Brock was going to be released and they will draft a qb in the first two rounds. It sounded as if he was coached by the team to say it.

They are built to win now but think Tom Savage could lead them to a Superbowl. Yeah right, Ill buy that lol.
Mclains a dinosaur in Houston and as arrogant as they come, constantly name drops. He's just covering his you know what cause he's been saying for months that there's zero chance Romo would end up on the Texans.

I agree. I read a report earlier from Rappaport that even though they traded Osweiler, they are not interested in Romo. Well, the moves they made today sure do suggest a different motive then what he's reporting.

I also read Denver was in talks with the Jets for Simeon. Jerry is probably sitting back waiting for that trade to happen and licking his chops and turning this into a bidding war between the Broncos and Texans. I think we're going to get A lot more for Romo than any of us aren't expecting . Jerry, as a businessman, is genius. Not too shabby as a GM, as well.

I think both teams feel like they are a quarterback away from being a legit contender, as they should. Both rosters have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball.

He's had chronic back issues for years now...even when he got the extension it was a concern. On talent alone, sure he's the best option for contending teams and for those looking at a short-term solution.

Chronic, but not all that serious. He's already demonstrated he can play with the back condition. It's been the collarbones and the compression fracture that kept him sidelined. And Dak.

Most people with back pain don't have 250-310 lb men forcing them to the ground and landing on their back.
Just saying.

I don't know man that seems like an awful lot of credit to give to this FO to have that kind of foresight, but I suppose it's not out of the realm of possibility

I think Houston just shot its wad too early and kicked this whole thing into high gear and bailed out the Jones clown crew in the process

I would not be surprised if the compensation involves multiple picks and one of them is conditional. I would really be shocked if they are posturing over anything less than a second. We are likely holding out for a first or more.
Lol they're not getting a 1st. Be lucky to a 2nd

He's well respected through out the league. He's better than anything Dallas has and just like all best writers he's wrong at times. But he's right more than Hes wrong and no one has inside access to the Texans more than he does. Been listing and reading him since I was 13.

When it was reported that the Cowboys were going to cut Romo I thought it was the most idiotic thing I had ever heard. It flew right in the face of what I would have expected from the organization in this sort of situation.

I had a fleeting thought that maybe the Cowboys are floating this around to see what would happen then quickly dismissed this as another idiotic move back to their old way of doing things.

While I considered the possibility that the Cowboys would try to smoke teams out floating the Romo release story I didn't actually believe it would WORK. Looks like maybe I was wrong about that.

I would have waited the other teams out. It probably wouldn't have smoked the other teams out quite as fast as the Romo rumor did there would have been a lot less risk. Sometimes forcing a team to make a decision makes them panic. Hopefully Denver and Houston are in panic mode.

I'm not sure whether this was calculated by the Cowboys or not, but maybe the Cowboys organization is more on point than I thought.

I think Denver and Houston are just posturing and trying to call Jerry's bluff. I also think Jerry was set to release Romo but got wind of the Brock trade and decided to wait it out and see what happens. One of the two will blink soon and it's possible one already has but other details must be worked out before they announce a trade.

Everyone was saying he would be released yesterday for nothing. Nothing is written in stone. It's fluid. Leverage in a situation can go from one extreme to the other and back again. It is an art to know when enough is enough and take your profit and move on and sometimes you don't know when you have overplayed your hand until it is too late.

I honestly don't want Romo to Houston. He's a Cowboy and that's the only Texas city he needs to be tied to.
