Mosley: Hamlin may be on way out

I wouldn't mind drafting Taylor Mays as long as the rest of the NFL agrees to catch 20% less efficiently.

If they were to take Taylor Mays(i hope not) we have to get a better db coach.

Yeah because Campo sure hasnt developed any secondary talent.

Oh wait.

Smith, Woodson, Mathis, and Jenkins were all developed by Campo. Everywhere he goes his proteges are going to probowls.

All hail Campo's uncanny ability to 'develop' 1st round draft picks.

Primetime42 and Hoosier are right: Mays is the evil twin of Roy Williams: horrible idea.....

I preferred it when Ball was back there over Hamlin

There was no real drop off and I thought some improvement when Ball took over

I agree. It was nice to see deep safety help.

Woodson, Marion, Washington, and Brown were not 1st round picks.

Some people were crying at the suggestion of this 10 hours ago.

Mays is a SS
Earl Thomas fits the mold but is small

Keep in mind he is a red shirt sophomore and still has plenty of time to develop his physical abilities.

He is one Longhorn I do not mind tons of input on.

I read he plays a unique star type safety. One conducive to making picks. Rebuttal?

Ken Hamlin > Gerald Sensabaugh

Sensabaugh still has upside though.

He hasn't been in the league as long as Hamlin and he hasn't been in our system as long.

If Hamlins a 7 then Gerald is a 6.9

He can play corner or safety in the league but I think the guy may struggle a little in his first year do to being so young.

But eventually he will be a bigtime player in this league. He has the most range of any safety in College football.

But Cowboy fans have no patience and if Thomas isn't a superstar from day 1 then Jerry is a bonehead you know?

Mays is a freak at Safety. He would be awesome for Dallas.

freak what? freakishly bad?

the guy is absolutely putrid in space...he never makes plays on the ball and he takes really bad angles

he's gonna end up at OLB in the 4-3 defense IMO, just like Thomas Davis

Definetely makes some sense for us b/c Ball can go both ways too so neither would be stuck.

Our realistic big board may be 1. Iupati 2. Thomas

Yeah guys like Ball and Earl Thomas are valuable because they can save you roster spots and with us carrying to 2 kickers we need more guys like that.

If you draft Earl Thomas you get a Corner and a Safety.

Yeah I don't like Taylor Mays and he is the exact type of safety NFL teams should stay away from.

He may have great straight line speed but he still lumbers around on the football field.

No thanks. Maybe 10 years ago before the NFL changed the rules so much that you almost need 4 corners starting in your secondary.

Hamlin has been in the league for 6 years and Sensabaugh has been in the league for 4. That's not much of a difference. It isn't as if Sensabaugh's a second year player.

And if Hamlin's a 7, Sensabaugh is a 4.

I hear ya, I just think those numbers seem pretty low.
If you think those numbers are low, then you should look up Sean Taylor's. Those would probably be more to your liking.

Hamlins not that much better than Sensabaugh and when you throw in Hamlins contract then its Hamlin < Sensabaugh in a landslide imo.

Hamlins not a bad player by any means but we can do better. Especially for that money.

If he is willing to take a paycut then this is a non-issue with me.

Sensabaugh is a liability in coverage. And he's not that great against the run. There's really nothing he's good at. Seriously, he was cut from the Jaguars and he'll eventually be cut from the Cowboys. He's a JAG.

Hamlin's contract isn't really that big. I'm not sure why people freak out about it. It's about average for an NFL starter.

Niether one of them are quality NFL starters and both should probably be backups. Hamlin's inability to make any plays as a FS on a team with one of the best rushes in the league is a serious drawback. It'd be one thing to not get ints because he drops them, but he doesnt even get his hand on any. 4 passes defensed in two years from a starting FS is awful. Hamlin almost never covers anyone man to man either, so the excuse of "nobody throws at him" doesnt fly.

At least Sensabaugh did have 8 pds (and he had 8 pds and 4 picks last yr in Jacksonville) and he played with basically one arm almost all year here.

Our defense can be good with them, but until we start forcing turnovers more it wont be dominant. And these two guys are one of the reasons we dont force any turnovers, because both suck at it.
