Mosley: Hamlin may be on way out

Sensabaugh is a liability in coverage. And he's not that great against the run. There's really nothing he's good at. Seriously, he was cut from the Jaguars and he'll eventually be cut from the Cowboys. He's a JAG.

Hamlin's contract isn't really that big. I'm not sure why people freak out about it. It's about average for an NFL starter.

Maybe but Hamlin is barely more than a jag so for me Sensabaugh is the better bargain.

If Michael Hamlin can come in and be a starter we wouldn't have to sit a big contract on the bench.

I don't know all the rules of this un-capped year but if we can free ourselves of Hamlins contract then I would do it.

Hamlin is a top 10 safety in the league. No one is taking his spot from him. Sensabaugh will be gone.

:lmao: 1 int in the last 2 years at free safety...

I'm the biggest USC fan imaginable, but even I wouldn't use a #1 on Mays unless he were available when we pick at #28...and he won't be.

The kid is incredibly athletic, fast as a bullet, big as a bull, and will hit like a truck..........but he just doesn't look natural and doesn't seem to have good instincts in coverage.

If that's more the USC system or other teams avoiding him, then maybe he'll be a huge NFL star because he certainly has the measurables.

I don't know which is more ridiculous this or saying that he's a top 10 safety in the league. I guess you could say he's one of the top 10 highest paid safeties in the league...

The guy makes more money than ED REED.

I want no part of Taylor Mays.

You think people turned on Roy L Williams? Wait til they get a load of this guy.

Stay away.

Do not want.

Like I said before: I'll take him. and 5 minutes later switch him to OLB..

No way he stays at Safety.

The numbers in that article are incorrect.

Ed Reed -- 6 year, $44.7 million contract.

Ken Hamlin -- 6 year, $37.5 million contract (actually it's $35 million, but will reach $37 million if certain conditions are met).

And Reed's contract was signed 2 years before Hamlin's (2006 vs. 2008), when the salary cap was much lower (and hence contracts were much lower on average).

I keep hearing about T. Mays not good for our Cowboys from some of you. I keep hearing how E. Thomas or M. Burnett would be better. Walter Football has C. Jones and N. Allen rated higher than M. Burnett. I really like C. Jones and N. Allen. N. Allen from South Florida a team mate of M. Jenkins. C. Jones come from a program and played in big games. My sleeper is K. Chancellor. I know some don't him because he hasn't been talked about. K. Chancellor was all world at V. Tech a year ago. I watch him on youtube he was laying big hits and making int. What you guys think about him and the other two I mention.

Chad Jones, S, LSU
Height: 6-3. Weight: 220.
Projected 40 Time: 4.59.
Projected Round (2010): 2.
1/12/10: Chad Jones has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Jones probably would have been better off returning to school to get some more starting experience, but I don't think this is a terrible decision. Jones could be the third safety drafted.

Nate Allen, FS, South Florida
Height: 6-2. Weight: 206.
Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
Projected Round (2010): 2.
1/14/10: One of the more underrated prospects in this class, Nate Allen garnered 85 tackles, four interceptions and four pass deflections in 2009.

3/13/09: Nate Allen registered 53 tackles, two TFL, one sack and a pick in 2008.

8/6/08: Nate Allen had an incredible sophomore campaign. He started all 13 games, and recorded 86 tackles, eight pass break-ups and four interceptions.

Sleeper
Kam Chancellor, S, Virginia Tech
Height: 6-4. Weight: 225.
Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
Projected Round (2010): 6-7.
1/14/10: An All-ACC second-teamer, Kam Chancellor had 68 tackles and four passes broken up. He'll have problems in coverage at the next level.

12/14/08: Kam Chancellor struggled at times this year. He finished with 51 tackles and three passes broken up.

2007: An extremely athletic safety - seems like this draft class is laden with guys like that.

Jones and Chancellor are too big and lack the agility to make plays in coverage. I'm not a fan of big safeties at all due to their deficiencies in coverage.

tell me your thoughts on these safeties
It is impossible for a fan to judge a safety's play based solely on a TV coverage. Any fan's opinion based solely on that is not worth the attention.

Virginia Tech S Kam Chancellor continues to make big hits and covered a lot of ground. It seems like every time we hear the whistle, we see No. 17 in the pile. He also played well on special teams.

Another big hit
Not surprising to see Virginia Tech S Kam Chancellor fly up and pop Fresno State WR Seyi Ajiroutu after watching Chancellor practice this week. He's been a physical presence in the middle and over run support all week.

Players to watch
Now that practices are over, here are a few players who had a great week and can cement a good report from NFL scouts with a solid game:

Virginia Tech DB Kam Chancellor: Coming into the week, there were questions about his ability to hold up in coverage as a saefty at the next level. He helped himself out by showing better range and better closing burst than we expected. Teams won't want to put him in man-to-man situations, but he proved to scouts he can line up at safety and won't have to move to OLB as some scouts talked about ealier. He's made big plays and a few interceptions throughout the week in practice, so it wouldn't be surprising to see a something similar in the game.

Thats funny.

I felt like Earl Thomas was a 1st round pick before any NFL scout did by watching it on TV.

What I said was a very broad statement, so let me clarify. There are extremes that stand out, even on television. You can tell that some safeties absolutely will not be NFL caliber by watching television. But I think it's silly to claim any safety is worth a first round pick based solely on television coverage. You just can't know, because you don't see them most of the time and you don't know their responsibilities. There just isn't enough information to make that determination.

Most people will look at interceptions. But interceptions are by and large luck. I don't care one bit about interceptions in terms of judging a safety. Not one bit.

Yeah, Hamlin is more expensive than Sensacannotlookfortheball.

Sensy signed a 1 year deal.

If he re-ups with Dallas, its not going to be for a "cheap" one year rental salary X 5 years.

It will be bigger and close the gap between him and Hamlin. Hamlin will likely earn more regardless...

I'm not saying draft Kam in the first round or second round, but if we miss on the others draft Kam in the third round.

right now I see first round best OT or S
second round best OG or S or DE
third round best IB or S or DL

I can't think of one safety his size that has good coverage skills. There is a reason for that.

Balls that are deflected and then picked by someone else are lucky plays for that person, but there is somrthing to be said for safeties who pick off alot of passes. Not all of them are luck and over time it represents the ability of that player to read passing routes and take proper angles to cut passes off. Now a safety may have bad hands and not intercept alot of balls, but that player will still get passes defensed, which are significant plays. If over time a safety never gets his hands on the ball, thats not bad luck, thats poor play.

Thats my issue with Hamlin, that he rarely gets anywhere near the football. He's also a poor open field tackler.

Some players have an ability to bait QBs into throwing and this forces INTs. This ability is rare and almost always results in many more negative plays than interceptions. I'd rather a player NOT exhibit that behavior over the long term.

Hamlin rarely gets anywhere near the football because he's rarely thrown at. He's only been thrown at 41 times in the past two seasons.
