I'd love to see Happy Gilmore 2 just because I want to revisit the stupidity that I enjoyed years ago.
I also would like to see 28 Months Later.

God I despise Adam Sandler.

His older stuff like HG is OK, but anything done in the last 10 years is pure ****.

There's been rumors about doing a "28 Months Later".

This is a great thread.

I love anime. I would enjoy seeing a live action adaptation of Blood Plus. Not like that live action mess someone made of the original Blood: The Last Vampire anime movie either. Rather, a serious effort to write a screenplay based on the anime sequel series.

Luc Besson should do a sequel to Leon: The Professional and allow Natalie Portman to reprise her role. This time, Mathilda is the grownup hitwoman who protects an innocent from harm.

I would pay good money to see a decent sequel to The Exorcist. Sure, the original was a classic but no one has seriously tried to make a suitable successor to it. One of the worst Hollywood tragedies was casting a great actor like Richard Burton in Exorcist II and surround him with crap material to work with.

I hear you about "The Exorcist" sequel. The "Exorcist II" was unwatchable. And yeah, there were some decent actors in it.

Ghosts of the Ostfront (about the WW2 Battles on the Russian Eastern Front)

Here's an eery part of that story (if you're in a rush, start listening from 1:27 to about 4 minutes but if you have the time or interest, download his entire several part podcast, its amazing)

The Eastern Front is such a fertile ground for some decent flicks.

Most westerners have no idea how brutal or how wide the destruction was on the Eastern Front.

I think a terrific movie could be make on the "Katyn Massacre".

Every time I watch the Godfather I or II, or some other great movies, I wonder why they can't make more great movies.

My conclusion that it is the fault of audiences. If Hollywood can just make crap and it sells, then why bother making something great.

It's because special effects have overtaken writing/plot as what's driving most movies.

Good storytelling has fallen behind crashes, bangs, wrecks and blowups as far as what drives what movies get filmed and ultimately pushed by studios.

CGI has taken movies to a different place and it's not a place I care to go (often).

I waited for "World War Z" to come out because the book was so good... so the movie comes out and we get... something that's nothing like the book! It was an action-adventure movie, which had its moments but the story reeked.

The trouble with "Godfather III" is that I thought the story was flat-out unbelievable. I thought the premise found in I and II believable. But in #3, Michael has basically become a James Bond Villain.

The more people pay to see moronic movies like Batman (The Heath Ledger one was good but the others are crap), Avengers and all of that crap, the less likely Hollywood is to make more great movies.

TV has similar issues. The regular networks can't have anything great anymore because they have to appeal to the masses, most of which like crap. Luckily, the cable channels are putting out some good shows because they can have a narrow target audience.

The recent Pacino movie was decent (Danny Collins). Not great or anything, but much better than some Avengers crap.

I disagree. Hollywood has always made a bunch of crap movies to go along with the good ones they produce. People don't tend to remember the many bad ones because they are bad. You only remember the good ones and it provides a somewhat nostalgic view that previous eras were greater than the present.

I actually COMPLETELY disagree.

You do know there waaaaaaaayyyyy more bad movies than good or great ones.
Hollywood churning out money making run of the mill crap shouldn't and doesn't have anything to do with a future great moving being name.

In fact, the average to good movies support the industry. The once in a while great ones do not.

If it pays more to produce crap, then where is the motivation to produce quality.

The old crap movies didn't make hundreds of millions like they do now.

I don't have old timer syndrome. I think TV is better now because of cable networks. More movie stars are doing TV now. True Detective, House of Cards, etc..

Crap has always paid more since the inception of movie making. The motivation to produce quality is pride by the movie makers. That is countered by some of the guys who make the financial decisions. This has never changed.

Oh no question there's always been a lot of crap out there in movie land.

But what has changed is that it use to be really good movies with good stories were pushed by studios, drew well and won academy awards. That's changed now. Now the good story movies win academy awards but they teeter more towards the artsy-fartsy crowd, rather than being good stories that appeal across a large demographic. The movies that are drawing crowds aren't going to win any awards simply because most of the time the stories are weak. It's a tail of two types of movies. And in both cases the story telling doesn't seem to be as good as it use to be.

The so called "Oscar Bait" movies still draw a lot of money though relative to their budget. Most of the films up for Best Picture last year, which was a very strong year for film, all made around 10x more than their budget. Yes in the summer they will push their blockbusters but studios still need to fill the Spring Fall and Winter seasons with movies.

Not to mention Independent films have far more exposure than ever before.

No doubt, there's enough material to crank out a fascinating new movie every day in my opinion. I suppose the cold war squelched the topic of the Soviets contribution to WW2 no to mention so many of the people that could report the atrocities didn't live and the ones that did probably could report what happened due to Stalin's propensity for control and violence upon those he dared to test him.

I've never heard about the Katyn Massacre, so there's yet another subject to learn about, thx for the heads-up.

Another good subject would be some of the spies that undermined the *****. I just watched a special about Christine Granville who worked as a spy for the British and was called Winston Churchill's favourite spy.

The compelling WW2 stories are endless.....
